1/16 Slash or 1/16 Revo?

So whats gonna be more fun to drive the 1/16 Slash or 1/16 Revo?Seriously thinking about getting either one. What are you opinions on the Brushless 380 motor and ESC that comes with it.Do they run hot etc?

nitrostarter 07.29.2009 04:40 PM

From hearing reviews, no personal experience, they both are a hoot to drive! Will definitely make you smile. The BL system with it is nice! Its super powerful and can push them pretty fast. 50mph or better! Which in 1/16th is fast! downfall is the ESC isn't the best. It definitely need some punch control. The lack or programibility sucks on it. Otherwise its a great little truck.

LHS and stores are starting to stock up on their parts so thats not an issue anymore.

phatmonk 07.29.2009 05:15 PM

Would a Mamba max fit into these minis?I might just buy the brushed version sell the motor system and use a MM and what motor then.

Bondonutz 07.29.2009 05:34 PM

Get a Revo, It'll handle rougher terrain and handle better in general due to being wider and bigger tires.

Castle ESC will fit but mods must be made. I have a stock VXL BL motor for Sale ?

phatmonk 07.29.2009 06:54 PM

Is that a CC mini sidewinder? What motor do you have in yours?Yea I thought the Revo would handle rougher terail.I mainly drive in my backyard grass.

Bondonutz 07.29.2009 06:59 PM

A lot of grass driving might give you temp issues, Unless it's cut real low ?

Full sized SideWinder and a Hobby City 3300kv, $28.00 and works awesome and stays cool with 2s and 3s pack after pack with out changing gearing.

phatmonk 07.30.2009 07:56 PM

Is it gonna be possible to fit a Neu 1506 and MM in a mini slash?I bought a 1/16 Slash and well its my next project.

The MM will fit where the radio box is, but you may need one of these for the 1506:

phatmonk 07.30.2009 08:12 PM

Thats awesome thanks Skellyo.What about a pinion.Does Mike have a 48 pitch 5mm pinion?

skellyo 07.30.2009 08:14 PM

You can find some of them here:

unfinned should be 39mm

phatmonk 07.30.2009 08:42 PM

Thats great info guys.I just so happen to have a Neu 1515.05Y/S 4400 KV.Yea overkill. The 1515 might be too long though. We shall see when the slash gets here. That Neu will roast the stock ESC.But with 2s maybe not.Probably will pull the new Mini VXL and sell to buy a MM then the motormount. It gonna be like putting my 69 Galaxie 390 FE in my New Beetle.

phatmonk 07.30.2009 08:46 PM

Better yet Maybe I should just buy a CC MM plus motor combo and run on 2s.Gonna have to work some overtime.

The 1515 will fit according to this page:

The diameter of the wanna-be NEU in my truck is 37mm diameter X 48mm Long. I had to grind the little hump on the chassis that is over the center shaft in order for it to get a perfect gear mess with 50/28. There is also 1mm gap between rear shock tower and the rear of the can.

Wow, cool link !!! Revos with a death wish LOL.

The size of a Neu shouldn't be an issue with that tenbol motor mount, especially when they've put one in there on that page.

phatmonk 07.30.2009 08:58 PM

I am then going to need a pinion that is atleast 18T?What is the stock pinion T count in the Slash? The above link has 14T as the largest available.

Yeah I figured that but if anyone wants to stick to the same sized can they have some specs to go by.

phatmonk 07.30.2009 09:26 PM

It would be cool if Mike made these Motormounts. His stuff is the best!!!!!!!!!

rootar 07.31.2009 03:25 AM

holy hell that video on the big block mount site is NUTS that gotta be a +35mph rolling backflip............. that cant be good for the drivetrain! but wow i totally want one now....

killajb 07.31.2009 10:57 AM

Monk, why not go for a Neu 11-series motor instead? I have a 1115 (5700kv) and it's downright nasty in my mini revo. Purchased another stock esc for dirt cheap and modded it with some low esr caps to handle the load. Also went with the smallest spur offered and a 31t pinion. I'm still weary of tearing up the drivetrain so I swapped back to the stock setup. I had to modify the rear shock stay due to the length of my motor, but a Neu 1110 would fit perfectly. I'd pit a Mini-Revo/Neu 1110 5700kv up against any big block setup. Enough speed on 2s to race with anyone and on 3s.. googula moogula!!

Thats a great Idea.Does the Neu 1110 have a 5mm shaft?

No, it's a 1/8" shaft. You don't need a 5mm shaft in one of these and the 1/8" 48P pinions are stupid cheap.

RCZILLA 08.01.2009 12:49 AM

Standing and rolling backflips no nothing for me, I really don't see the point. But maybe tamed alittle more would be pretty sweet. What size 540 motor would be ideal to run on 2S? It says on their site that you would get better run times. What you get better run times running something like a 1110 Neu/MM over a 540 setup?

phatmonk 08.01.2009 08:28 AM

What about a Sidewinder combo with the 5700 KV 2s lipo and Bigblock motormount? All for a little over 200.00 dollars.Sold the Neu 1515.5Y/S on pbay.

phatmonk 08.01.2009 08:49 AM

Does anyone know the max amps on a Sidewinder. The CC website say more than I can handle and no specific amount.

Is your setup using the stock motormount? And if so what other mods were required other than the above mentioned.

Stock motor mount, no mods other than previously mentioned.
Simple install with no fuss no muss. I do not drag race mine, I have it tuned for the track and bash and with this motor I have fantastic run times and zero heat issues. The hottest I got the motor was 127F and the ESC stays ambiant temp. Couldn't ask for more, :yipi:

phatmonk 08.01.2009 10:14 AM

With the stock mount ?
The can diameter is close to whats in mine but the mount holes I'm sure are different hence the after market motor mount.

phatmonk 08.01.2009 11:59 AM

Thanks Its gonna be the CC Sidewinder 4600 combo on 3s.

Bondonutz 08.01.2009 12:01 PM

That should be Nasty :diablo:

rootar 08.01.2009 01:43 PM

what if you used the big block mount with 540 tekin rs system they have AMAZING control, if you were wanting to race yours id say the tekin rs esc is the way to go for the mini revo, plus its about the smallest esc you can get....

phatmonk 08.01.2009 01:51 PM

I realy like the CC products.I allready have the CC link and the CC software to program the controlers. The Tekin systems require extra cash for their controlers. But I will check them out.

phatmonk 08.05.2009 05:59 PM

All righty then I have the Sidewinder 4600 combo now will 2 1500 3s lipo in paralel supply enough amps for the ESC combo? Also for a Traxxas this little truck is pretty nice.Or can I get by with 1 3s 1500 lipo.

Andrew32 08.05.2009 09:34 PM

anyone else watch the video at the bottom of this page?
http://tenbol.com/index.html

INSANITY!

E-sav 08.06.2009 07:37 PM

you don't mention a c rating for the lipos. They'll need to be very good (30c+) to give you performance advantage over a smaller, more elegant 1100 series Neu based system. You'll definitely need both in parrallel.
