Turnigy or zippy packs
Im just wondering which pack i sould buy as im looking at the zippy 5000mah 25c 6s packs and the turnigy 5000mah 25c 6s packs. i know the turnigy pack are heavier and longer but other than that what is the difference and which should i buy and why?
i would go with the turnigy 6s 5000 20c, for 60 bucks you can beat em
im going to need higher amp draw than that though to be safe, im running a 1521 1y in a muggy, and dont plan on being light on the trigger. if i thought they would not have heat issues i would get them but my zippy H 5 cell pack got super hot and puffed with a 1515 1y in the muggy. i just want to be on the safe side but dont have the money for high end packs
The Hyperion Gen 3 are high end, but they are much more reasonable in terms of price compared to say TPs or Flightpowers etc.
You could always do what I do though- use a pair of 5s or 6s lipos in parallel, that doubled mah capacity should greatly reduce the chances of puffing or over heating. |
i cant believe you puffed a 5s 5000 in a muggy, the 2200 isnt really a perfect 5s motor tho, what kv are you going to run on 6s?
well it was just too much strain for the 5s pack and the muggy, i ran the setup in my crt many times without any issues, the 1521 is 1577kv so on 6s it should be great i just wanted to make sure i wont have any issues with the next battery i buy but want it to be something i can afford to buy a couple packs.
how heavy is your muggy? just wondering why you opted for such a huge motor! lol i bet amps wont be to crazy unless its a real pig
I wouldn't go for less than 30c5000mah in the Muggy. And if you're running the mmm controller I wouldn't run it with zippy's on 6s unless you're using mechanical brakes. Not from personal experience, but from what I've read on this forum.
You could also wait for the bigger 40c rhino's. Or like Neil said, get the hyperion 35c lipo's. |
Wow those packs are real nice but almost 250 each. its something ill have to consider though as quality doesnt always come cheap. does anyone have experiance with the zippy 30c packs
been using zippy flightmax 30C 5S 5000mah for a while. they work fine for racing. all the punch i need, they stay cool.
waiting for 150A eagletree to get some data. should have it next week. |
would be really cool if u could post ur results.
I bought a pair of 3s 5000 25-35C Zippy lipos for my Muggy and so far they are great! It'll do 60+ if you can keep it on the ground.
now thats something good to hear. what kv is your motor? its a 80mm medusa right?

umm i dont think ill really have problems then especially with the 1521 1y 1577kv ithink im going to go with the 30 turnigys as they are only 99 bucks now. i just wonder why the flightmaxes are 20 bucks more yet their 25c packs are practically the same price as the turnigy 25c packs
i run 25c turnigy and 25c zippy/rhino in my 2200kv mamba monster in my 8ight-t 2.0. I like the Turnigy better, i have had zero issues. i also have a 40c Thunder Power. Stick with the Turnigys they are my fav packs, and u cant beat the price.

sweet hopefully ordering one this weekend
If you take a look in my "a bit of info please" thread Ive taken a picture of a burnt (11,1v 25C, 5000mAh) Turnigy print. Running 2 of these in series with the big Hobbywing system (150A + 4465 motor).
Have had no other problems and of course Ive repaired it... but the quality and $$ go hand in hand ;) |
Here's a snippet I posted in another thread:

i ordered the Turnigy 5000mah 6s 30c pack and no problems with the pack getting hot or staying in balance or full charge as of yet(6cycles) so far im happy for what i have and what i spent. This pack is currently pushing my 13.5lb muggy( at least will be when my speed controller back from castle after my recent flame out when flipping the switch on, and i will be removing the switch and soldering the wires together. not sure it will help but this is my second one to do this so it cant hurt to eliminate it, its not needed.

I've got 2 3s 5000 mAH Turnigy packs that I mostly run as a 6s setup in my Muggy and they have been great! My Medusa gets to 160 around the point these hit 100 and the MMM's fan is on all the time with this gearing (comes on after a minute or two and doesn't turn off, gets quite toasty). They stay well balanced and if I run them to the LVC they take over 5,000 mAH. Can't complain for $40/ea.!!!
I can vouch for the Zippy 2s 30C 5000mah hardcases. Perfect balance and never run hot. Just wish they made Zippy 3s hardcases!
i love my 2 4s 20c 5000's and my 2 5s 20c 5000's they pack some punch!
