MMM fans keep failing
Hey guys I keep having MMM fans failing on my buggy. I have yet for one to fail on my E-revo, or any of my brushless 8T 2.0's. But I have already had 2 fail on my 8B 2.0 buggy and I have only ran it twice. I can only think that maybe in a buggy they take a little more beating from chassis slap?? Either way are any of you guys having the same problem, and what is the fix. Tired of ordering new fan/cases.

I'm wondering how you have it mounted? Not sure that it can be applied to you, but I tape my esc in my E-revo, my buddy uses the mount. He had a fan go out and mine hasn't. But we discovered the other day, if your fan stops working, a 20ft jump off the nearest dirt pile tends to get it working again. :) Have you tried giving them a tap?

So how is it mounted?
|
Its mounted using the Losi conversion kit. Sits on the ESC mounting plate with double sided tape.
|
thats how i mount mine, works fine.
mine doesnt spin when it starts up... Unplug the wire leading to the receiver and turn on the controller. the fan should spin |

i use a foam pad under the esc now. i broke one just the other day jumping. seems to be alot more forgiving now

find some high quality 30x30x7mm 5V fans, solder AND GLUE the wires, now you can run it for some period of time.
My 3 MMMs' fans failed one by one, with broken blade\ coil \ wire. If something was not designed bullet proof, you have to make it to be. |
Odd, my stock is still going strong. Don't let Brian G see this thread, or he'll never let up.

Has this question been asked:
Whether the newer fans on the MMPro, which are supposed to be durable as hell, work in the MMM case and plug? |
Good questions......if they are I need some ASAP lol. Have a big race coming....
|
hopefully Patrick can chime in here and if so when we could purchase some fans from CC.
|
Where did you buy replacement fan?
I don't want to send my complete MMM for repare. |

i found some 12v fans on ebay, cut the top off the case off, shoe goo em to the heatsink, and solder em to the bullets, they last a while, and if one pops you just rip it off and glue another, i have also used 5v ones and soldered em to the existing wires, in my experience they last longer not bouncing up and down

Does a 30x30x10mm fan work in the case ?
|
My replacement fan failed last week mid-run without my knowledge resulting in some 165*f temps. The fans leave alot to be desired.
|
Hence my avatar...
|
im running a 1550 kv on 5s and my fan just died the other day, so i cut the top off and left the open heatsink, MMM didnt get over 135 degrees, sweet!
|
I got mine from here:
http://www.colordrives.com/evercool-...---3-pin-.html You have to cut and solder on the old plug. I didnt want to send my ESC in for a month to get a new fan from CC. And I certainly didnt need a new case either. |
Would these work?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT I think mine's dead too, doesn't turn on and the bullets are hot(not thermalling though). What's the MMM's plug like? |
buy one and let us know!
I'm getting tired of paying $12 + shipping for a fan and case when all I need is a fan. |
I'm using what garcol posted.
Here's some pics pounted: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture114.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture111.jpg |
I found a place to get the 3racing 5v 30mm fans for $2.60 each.
What mesh are you using there in the picture? I would love to find a way to filter the air without impeding it. |
That mesh looks like the black nylon fiber storm door screening.

Edit: I'm going to order some of those 3racing fans and see how they do. All these hong kong place kill you on shipping but the average cost of a fan is still ~$5 with shipping added in. Worth a shot. |
Yes, it is a storm door screen I bought from the Japanese home improvement store here in Japan.
