ebay question

Ok guys, I sold a motor on ebay. The descriptions clearly state that the shipping price is for US shipping only. It even stated that I will only ship to the US. The winning bidder is from South Korea. He has paypalled the money for US shipping prices. I sent him a message saying that the description clearly states US only and that I can ship to South Korea is he pays $10 extra. Otherwise I will refund his money.

Am I going about this the right way? Or is there someone else I should contact to cover my ass?

jayjay283 09.01.2009 09:13 PM

yeah thats about it. If he ends up wanting his money back, ebay will let you relist it for free because it wasn't your fault (up to I think 30 days). Just a nice waste of time

If it's clearly stated your cool . If you dont feel comfortable shipping out of the US dont do it . But if he is willing to pay the extra shipping thats cool to . I have shipped out of the US with no problems so far .

suicideneil 09.01.2009 09:27 PM

Just be sure to send it via some form of trackable shipping, but the seller should be cool with that- still annoying that he didnt contact you before bidding to ask if that was okay, but I guess some people never bother to read the terms of sale :sarcastic:

Bondonutz 09.01.2009 09:27 PM

If he's willing, do a mutual withdrawal of the transaction form. You refund him and you get the listing fee refunded.

http://rebulk.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI....isputeReason=2

It'll cost more than 10.00 to ship over there anyway and the extra paper work is a pain in the ass. I absolutely refuse to ship outside US because it's more trouble than it's worth, no disrepect intended to our out of country members.

nitrostarter 09.01.2009 09:35 PM

I don't have a problem shipping there, its just that is cost about $15 to do so. Shipping was set at $5.65 which covers shipping in the US. I'm not taking another $10 loss, ebay fees rammed me hard enough...

I'm waiting to hear back from him now... Pay up or I'm refunding and re-listing.

I guess I'll have to be extra explicit and type it over and over and use BOLD font to get the point across.

I had other bidders actually message and ask if I would ship out of country and I told them the same thing, pay the extra shipping and I'll do it.

neweuser 09.01.2009 09:36 PM

Also, if you are sending USPS, the tracking wont go all the way there. ;) Once it hits there, USPS can no longer track it as they dont have USPS. At least that is the issue I ran into two years ago. Your best option trackable method is FedEx which will cost him more.

The extra forms are not all that hard thru USPS actually, its three forms that you just need to describe the item and sign it. And then you need to make sure to put them into a shipping envelope (provided by USPS as you have to drop it off to send out anyways)

But you are right, it sucks people do not read the adds. I have had that issue over and over again with europeans and asians...again, no disrespect either, i think its just a language barrier.

sikeston34m 09.01.2009 09:44 PM

What kind of motor is it? I love motors. LOL

I rarely ship outside the US because it is a PITA.

If you don't want this to happen again, BLOCK all bidders from countries that you don't ship to.

That will fix their wagon.

Then they MUST email you first, or no chance.

nitrostarter 09.01.2009 10:08 PM

Hmm, I'll look into that blocking stuff!

It was the Tekin 1700kv I been trying to get rid of...

eovnu87435ds 09.01.2009 10:49 PM

I sold a broken computer on ebay once. listed broken. it was a sony vaio desktop computer. it ended up being 45+ lbs, and costed me $75 to ship it out. The winning bid was $90 with free shipping. thats the last time I ship overseas. Now hobbycity, I'm ok with them shipping to me, just not the other way around.

suicideneil 09.02.2009 12:29 AM

Free shipping on anything as large and heavy as a PC is nuts! and to sell it to someone over seas too? Crazy young man... :P

jayjay283 09.02.2009 05:32 AM

speaking of ebay Neil, any luck with mentat or should we start sqouring the net for info.. Hes about 1.5 hours from me lol

Ryu James 09.02.2009 06:01 AM

you know the worst thing about listing on ebay is? when all the out of country folks want you to ship to them but then when they want to know to the penny what the shipping cost is. what am i a f***ing post office? i let them know i am fine to ship out of the country but they pay the shipping and they cant be worried about nickels and dimes. i just tell them its double the us shipping price up front. and if i get to the post office and it ends up being more they better be prepared to pay that too or get negative feedback. but seriously, what is with these fools that think i am a walking rolodex of worldwide shipping prices? if you want special services, be prepared to pay is what i say. and dont expect me to go get custom quotes on shipping just so you can decide if you are willing to pay an extra 5 bucks. that is the pain with shipping out of country. so yeah, like so-and-so said, its probably not worth the big waste of extra time.

nitrostarter 09.02.2009 10:00 AM

Sent him 1 more message and if no response in 24 hours, I'm cancelling everything and refunding the money. Dumbass people...

Byte 09.02.2009 10:49 AM

I really HATE those people! I'm from the Netherlands, and 70 or maybe even 80% doesn't ship to here because they had bad experience with buyers outside the US... :whip: And because of those idiot 'buyers' I can't get my stuff cheap from the US.

Sorry for the off-topic. I hope that you'll get those $10 (?) extra and that you won't get other problems with non-US ebayers.

nitrostarter 09.02.2009 10:53 AM

I don't have any problems shipping over seas, it's just when people don't read and expect me to ship it at the same costs...

suicideneil 09.03.2009 08:38 AM

Re: Mentat- no sign of him. His address and phones number is posted in that thread, so if anyone wants to hassle him, feel free.

On the shipping issue, I dont mind getting quotes for people by weighing the item and checking prices on the postoffice website, but its a pain as the postoffice website is never accurate- example:

I sold some boots the other day, and the online postage estimater said £5.50 for 2nd class signed for delivery, great I says, so thats what I state in the auction for shipping (inside the UK). When it comes to posting the item, I get to the postoffice and they say they cant do 2nd class signed for as its too heavy, I have to use 1st class recorded which is nearly £9. Suffice to say I took the loss on postage as I couldnt be assed with the hassle, but I understand the annoyance of overseas bidders wanting to buy something and then not being prepared to pay what you ask of them- I always round up the shipping costs anyway, but I never make much profit out of shipping, its not the done thing you know?

nitrostarter 09.03.2009 10:29 AM

I filed to have the case canceled and the final value fee refunded. I have refunded his paypal payment as well. Screw this guy.

Bondonutz 09.03.2009 12:47 PM

Now just wait and see if he has a attitude and decides to leave a Neg FB, hopefully not but there are some real A-holes on Ebay ?

I sent a lady a item she bought from me, on the 6th day after I mailed it she emailed me wanting to know where it's at ? I tracked it and it showed still in transit. I emailed her back and explained how sometimes parcels arrive slowly due problems. I assured her it'll arrive soon and if not I'll remedy the problem. On the 8th day after shipping the bitch leaves me a negative FB saying "No item and I refused a refund" ? WTF ?
I sent her a full refund including S&H and 2 days later the item showed up. So she got her item, her $ back and busted my sack w/a Neg FB. I had to beg and plead w/her to remove the Neg FB with promises of free shipping on the next thing she bought.
She said she wanted to buy a bunch of tools I had listed and wanted free OverNight shipping !! I said sure but remove the NegFB first, she did and I immediately blocked her from my auctions, Stupid Ho trying to blackmail me ?
Had another guy receive his item and 18days later emailed me Demanding I send a refund and then he'll send the item back, he had brass balls.
I've had people refuse to pay for items that cost as little as a $1.49 and have to file a claim
Most everyone on Ebay can be a dick and will try to bend you over if your not careful !

Rivermaxx 09.03.2009 01:18 PM

The problem with shipping out of the states is there is no way to track it. So the seller can say they never got it and get their money back and still get the item. Tracking or delivery confirmation is very important with paypal purchases. I would figure out how to get out of the auction somehow you dont want the negative feedback he might give.

Thats true, so not only do you get the shaft for the money, but loss of the product as well.

This guy has 7 days to take action. So I'll see how this flies.

You can, just not thru the postal service. You need to use DHL to ship overseas, and they will deliver the package even if the guy is living under a bridge.

@OP: You can't get neg FB if you clearly state US only and an overseas buyer bought it. File a req to cancel transaction and no FB can be left. PITA for you, but no danger of being stuck.

I remember I was selling an 1/8th scale on ebay a while back, said US only as its so heavy, and I'd still get req from people asking how much to ship to Timbuktu. No postal code or address provided tho so I could even do it on the online shipping estimator. I seriously got some guy from freaking Kazakstan wanting to buy my truck and wanted to know how much to ship there. Not a postal code, not a city listed, just Kazakstan. How the hell would I know? Do I send it off w/ Borat next trip home and he'll take it to you? Strap it to a carrier mule and sent it on its way?

I have shipped some places ex-US, and I will get quotes for them if the item is small and they are clever enough to send me postal code info first. I do make a flat fee shipping that makes it worth my trouble, take it or leave it. If you have a shipping center close, like a Parcels Plus or so, they can often be a huge help, give you a real quote and will take care of customs and such. Many also do ebay sales themselves, so know the good ways to do it.

nitrostarter 09.04.2009 09:28 PM

My next question is why the hell does my BUY IT NOW option keep disappearing? I've set up 3 auctions with Buy it now options and all 3 have disappeared a day or earlier after its opened... Any clue?

jayjay283 09.04.2009 09:32 PM

the buy it now will go away after the 1st bid,; unless you have a reserve on it. then it will go away when it hits the reserve. Its ebay man , another way to scam a buck off you/ either do it as a buy it now auction or just let it roll with an open bid close to what you think its worth

nitrostarter 09.04.2009 09:35 PM

AH, I didnt know that... Thats quite a BS operation. It should stay there until it meets that Buy it now amount....

Rivermaxx 09.04.2009 09:40 PM

Put the item up with a set price and accept offers. If the right person comes along they will buy it or at least offer somthing you be willing to take.

Bondonutz 09.05.2009 07:37 AM

Another one of the MANY ways Fleabay nickle and dimes the seller.

mohanjude 09.05.2009 08:07 AM

USPS Does offer tracking overseas

I live in the UK and buy at least a dozen items from the USA via ebay / RCM / direct website.

Never lost a item in the past 8 years - when I want tracking I pay for International Priority mail (Parcels not Flat rate envelope) or EMS. Shipping can be between $25 and $35 but is fully tracked door to door.

People are wrong to think that packages cannot be tracked door to door via regular usps. Below is trackin info from www.usps.com as proof.

This is a big box containing a painted revo body CJ196453643US shipped International Priority parcels - slower but cheaper/ $26.50 due to size of box but weight low.

I frequently find that most people do not realise that the USPS postal system is very economical and efficient if you use the right service

Dang! the shipping prices are outrageous. I was told otherwise by the po. I print all my shipping label of at home and either just drop the package off orgive it to the postal carrier. I spend 0 time standing in line @ the po. I my opinion its a hassle to ship out of the states. I will do it but the buyer is just going to have to pay alot more shipping cost.

it's cheesy but, just set as an auction then have a friend bid to set a price, if your friend wins do a mutual withdraw. ebay is scandalous so you can be too. i have done this 3-4 times with no problems. this will also save on buy it now and starting price fees, always start at a penny

and yes i know it's wrong, but taking 20% of your auction in ebay/paypal fees wrong to me.

jayjay283 09.05.2009 01:16 PM

ive used my wifes account to bid up some stuff i was selling. Screw ebay

don't do a mutual withdrawal( theres an inuendo there somewhere) leave mutual positive feedback and just relist the item. I won't tell.

I wonder if a Ebay thread would be a decent idea to have on the forum ? Mods ?

this is an ebay thread:lol:

a seperate ebay subforum would prolly just be a bunch of bickering, but we do need some forum cleaning. still need an LST forum, medusa can go, UE can go. A Harold forum would be nice. Mods?

I think it's pushing it asking for a "Harold forum". Besides, I haven't ben here to long but I've seen plenty of Harold dry humor and endless belly-aching to get me through the rest of my days already. :na:

Don't hate me Bro, just pulling your wheel.
I enjoy reading your posts, because one never knows what kinda crap your gonna type !

jayjay283 09.05.2009 07:32 PM

Harolds on the right track, except, get rid of the UE and make it a "Jasons Drunk" many insights to be learned
