http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1.../Revoxx014.jpg The "heart": http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1.../Revoxx015.jpg An ofna diff! With custom mount! Gotta love those fat rods: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1.../Revoxx016.jpg Stay tuned for more pics as I progress! I still have some nice ideas up my sleeve ;) Cheers DAF |
Nice! wish I was as creative, I might have to a similar thing if i get board of mine.
|
You are my hero Daf. That thing is bad A$$.
|
Looking good Dafni. Really nice bit of machine work there.
|
Thank you!
Nice to be someones hero, Johnny. :) I will only strap topnotch electronics on this babe, no more compromises:028: |
WILD! i like it, but why did you seal the shocks? I havent had any leaks in mine
you da man. |
LOVE it Daniel!!!
I am allmost in the mood for buying one.. (shhhh, don't tell Isabel....) what pushrodds/turnbuckles are that fat? |
Quote:
I think thats the Revo tube and pushrodes. He deanodized it.. |
|
that thing looks good man. I hope it all turns out sweet. Keep us updated and some vids later when you get that thing running.
|
Any thoughts on whats gonna be powering that thing? Or is it all *hush hush*? ;)
|
1950 i thought..
|
Brilliant work.
|
truly brilliant.
That revo drivetrain is quite tough too right? with that centerdiff you will take some stress away from the drivetrain as well. |
Yeah, and when the bulkless becomes available, it will be as good as the top maxxes out there. Can't wait for 1/8 diffs!
Yes, I have a 1950/12 here. Perfect for this FGR and 5S or 6S Lipo. The shocks are not sealed because of leaking, crazyjr. Less dirt on the shafts means less wear. Just look on 1/8 buggies. Those are Jato boots, btw. And the rods are from Strobe. I like them, but on reflection, I could have made them myself. They are fater then the red TRX ones, but the thread is still 4mm. Thanks for the nice comments! No more hush hush here for me, it's just RC, and I don't mind sharing my hobby with you guys. |
very nice, now theres a ginat hole where the tranny was... More room for cells to be packed in? lol
|
NICE! Make me want to get one.

Love the center diff... It must be so much lighter than the E-Maxx tranny (even with single speed conversion). Hope to see some more of your "tricks."
|
MAN, this makes me feel like my g2r is a POS:( VERY nice dafni, it will fly!!
|
yup pritty sweet on the customization!
|
very nice looking makes me want one also

I was refering to the shock caps, but i see it was a shadow i saw that looked like a seal of some sort. no problem with the props, that kind of craftsmanship deserves at least that. Hope to see it at the get-together |

As for thinking the exact same, many people do. A center diff is a nice thing to have in a racer. Quote:
The lower final gear ratio will also give less rolling resistance with the motor connected. Of course this will also mean less torque, but with this kind of motor (and overall weight) this is nothing to worry about. Quote:
Thank all of you for the nice comments! I feel blessed to be among you guys, and I really hope I can make it to the Get-Together. Just for fun, here's an older pic with a motor mounted. You might see how easy it will be to make a brace to support the rear of the motor. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...x/G3R_1011.jpg Cheers DAF |
Hey Dafni. are you going to put a brace on the holes where the transmission origionaly mounted? I noticed on my G2R that even with the lower plate on, without the transmission there is a lot of flex in the middle of the chassis where the transmissiom mounted to the X-braces. Just a thought and a heads up.
once again WOW!!!! |
Indeed! A (adjustable) brace to support the rear of the motor.
And some holes will be used to mount the ESC-mount. Also, the upright motor-mount will be cross-braced to the chassis. In one of the pics in the first post you can see the hole in the motor-mount. The x-braces alone have some flex, but with the lower plate it is pretty rigid, IMHO. But you are right, extra support wont hurt. Still a concern might be the area where I had to modify the x-braces to make room for the spur.... maybe I'll brace this too. Thanks for the WOW, thought you will like it. |

I have always had a thing for low profile cars( comes from my slotcar days) I also have an HPI pro3 touring car for that reason. I love a design where you can put most of the weight at or near the centerline of the wheels and yes the motor looks right sitting there |
Thanks for the heads up, crazy. Your input is appreciated!
|
Dafni,
That looks great. What size spur are you using? Could you have put the diff towards the back or is there not enough room? |
Hey Daf - I can honestly say i always look forward to your designs - You rock. Keep em coming....
|
it is a 51t spur, putting it more to the back makes it impossible to keep it that low, due to the two vertical braces.
I had the same plan, only on the backside, with an e-maxx. If everything is okay, Mike is making me a special adaptor to get the centerdiff directly on the reardiff.. (now THAT sounds weird.. :) ) |
Diff on the rear would be possible, but tricky. Very tricky, on a revo. The diff-cup would have to be uder the shocks, OR you would have to have an idler or something to make more room. Front was obvious for me.
And btw, the braces needed mods ayway. HotnCold, I can honestly say I always catch me staring at your sig :) You rock, too. Can't wait to meet you in person! Edit: Wait, I just had another look, there's another way for the diff i the rear. YOu would just need to modify a differet area of the braces. So it is definitely possible! |
yeahyeah.. I know it's possible Daniel.. ;)
You mean the eagle in his sig right?? |
On a maxx it would be very easy! But this is no news for us, eh ;) Somebody just has to do it! Who will it be?
Yeah, this eagle has a niiiice beak! |
now all of us are anxiuous to see it!:018:

Danfi, that is an awesome setup. |
WOW, Danfi that is good looking and functional custom work. I love mechanical engineering but I don't have the machinery to work with. I am currently putting a FLM chassis and suspension together and as I was building it I had all kinds of ideas that would (maybe) better the design. It would be nice to have the materials and resources to develop new chassis and suspension for companies like U.E. , gorillamaxx , FLM etc... Do you sell your designs or just enjoy doing the work? It's nice to be around people that are mechanical minded like I am + I get to learn more every day. I am disable so I spend alot of time on here (the forums) and a lot of time on my e-maxx. I do alot of work with my hands now because I can't walk, but I feel like I am doing something more than counting the cracks in the walls all day lol. It would be great to meet all you guys at the "get together" . Some of these guys sound like real characters lol. Well sorry I started babbling, I tend to do that. Anyway thats a great truck thanks for sharing it.
|
mmdooley, sorry to hear about your handicap. And don't worry about the babbling, I enjoy reading posts and mails from RC and BL fans. Feel free to shoot me a PM if ever you want to know or say something.
I comment you for picking up the RC hobby, and I admire you for this honest post. Respect. RC designer would be a nice profession, but I only do it on a "fun" level...altough the conversations with you guys makes me wanna open up a small business. Thank you for the kind words. Comments like this, from all of you, keep me going. Crazyjr, keep in mind Leroy did it on a Maxx. Much more room there, no shocks in the way! His design is also very nice, btw. I like it. Promod is the man when it comes to center-diffed Maxxes! |
