Plettenberg

What would be the best Plettenberg for a UE Lightning chassis? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

jayjay283 09.08.2009 04:30 PM

Where are you from ? If European get the Plet big maxx with fan. King of motors, if you're American get a neumotors or a castle creations 2200 kv. Mike RC-Monster.com sells both

MAGNOLIA 09.08.2009 05:11 PM

I live in the US. Can the Plettenbergs not be bought here? I am new to the electric scene but have seen a couple of UE Lightning's with the Plettenberg's and they look awesome. This truck will be for display only.

snellemin 09.08.2009 05:41 PM

You can find some used ones here and there. But Icare-rc (Canada) sells them.

_paralyzed_ 09.08.2009 05:47 PM

you could buy 3 cc/neus for the price of 1 big maxx:lol:

If you want the ultimate for your shelf queen, a big maxx by plettenberg is the way to go. http://www.icare-rc.com/plettenberg_pricelist.htm#cars

^ +92342577645  (no that isn't Neil's tele #)

Get the one w/ the fan. It's much more impressive looking. I'd even remove the ano so it's bright silver like the rest of the truck.

suicideneil 09.08.2009 06:31 PM

Display only? Give me your money so I can spend it properly!

Seriously though, if you were a few weeks earlier a member here had a BM he burnt up that would have been perfect for display, but its been hacked up now and turned into a heatsink for his Neu powered custom maxx.

I bought my Bigmaxx for the same price as a CC/NEU motor, only difference is, that it was used, but it's like new :yipi:

Thanks for the info. Plettenberg Big Maxx w/ fan times "TWO" is the way to go for me!!!! Yes, I did say TWO OF THEM!!!!! I am going to check the size of the Big Maxx and then see how much room I have on the Lightning and if two will fit then two it will have.

checking

If you do a little checking on here you can find an old thread from about a year ago started by Matt aka "plettenberg" with his UE lightning setup with two Big Maxx motors installed. He ran it for a little while like that, but then realized that it was just too much power for the normal size Maxx truck and now he sports just one Big Maxx motor, but he has two trucks setup that way. He may pop in if he sees this thread.

I have my UE Lightning setup with one Big Maxx installed myself. It is just for show right now though as I am planning to install the Plettenberg "Bolido" motor once I have the money for one. It is much larger and a bit more powerful. It will be for high speed runs. Yes they do look awesome with the Plettenberg setups. Good luck with your porject Sir.

jayjay283 09.10.2009 02:53 AM

2 pletts ? man glad to see the economy hasn't screwed us all. My point about europe and America buying was just the import tax etc. but I gather you've got that by now. Need pics ! sounds like 1 nice build

I assume you are talking about my planned setup with the "Bolido" motor. Yes it will be stupid awesome. I have had the chassis setup for a while now with a double mono block installed to stretch out the vehicle. It already has a very long custom stainless steel rear drivesaft from RCalloys, and if Mike ever releases the center diff mount we have been waiting on I will install a slipperential with this setup. I am sure it will take some tweeking to get the setup just right, but it will be loads of fun just going through the testing and adjustments trying to achieve 100mph+ with a UE lightning SuperMaxx. Thanks for your vote of confidence. Now I just have to wait until I have enough money to purchase the Bolido. Times are tough all over.

Kcaz25 09.10.2009 10:22 AM

Yeah I highlighted it. 171mm pin to pin right?
I've seen your work! Please do it!! When do you plan to create the build thread? I can't remember if I've seen a truck with two monoblocks. You've got setbacks to right?

Wouldn't you like to rearrange your last sentence? Tough times are all over. lol

He knows matt already and I am sure he has seen his twin bigmaxx lightning. The only issue I have is, its much too easy to run a brushless setup not to take advantage and use it. To much money sitting on a shelf for only you to admire and not use it, is just boring imo. If you want to build a trophy, build a actual plastic scale model of something. RC cars are for playing with, not looking at, you can take it out & have some fun with it and still be able too look at and admire it. If your worried about damage just drive it in the grass like plettenbergs does. BTW IMO 2 neu motors are less expensive and just as good as 2 maximum motors and your helping the economy @ the same time buying american. We allready seen one brushless motor company(medusa) go out of business.

emaxxnitro 09.10.2009 02:35 PM

have you looked at a hacker c50 ? they look great and preform well also. another vote for ccneu

JERRY2KONE 09.10.2009 07:34 PM

Right.

Yea I would love to do one of those build threads like Shaun aka TDC57 used to put together for us. I have 4 SuperMaxx style trucks in the shop, but we just have too many other things that are at the top of our priorities right now. We have been going through so much with our kids since they lost their mother last year, and they take up the majority of my time these days with football, cheerleading, and Hapkido classes.

Yes 171MM is correct.

It looks massive in the truck. The chassis is all setup with the wideMaxx suspension right now. I have two racer-X sets on hand now from second hand sellers, and a couple sets of the new UE setbacks to go with it. Without the center diff setup and the Bolido motor everything is on hold until I can acquire the $$$ to get-er-done. Plus we are still waiting on MMike to release the center diff mount for the Maxx. It really has been a fun truck to build though. Like so many others I like doing things just a little bit different than the average Joe. Something somewhat original if you will. I am hopeful pending the release of the items mentioned that I can get the truck completed and begin testing by New Year.

I f you guys look closely the lightning chassis is anodized to help prevent shorts on the chassis. But with 6s It probably wont matter. polishing it is a no no!

JERRY2KONE 09.10.2009 09:23 PM

Neil

NEIL your killing me. You guys always come up with some crap this is just off the wall that gets a million laughs. Yes MM says that there is a coating just for that reason applied to the chassis. When I finally get batteries mounted on this rig they will more than likely be mounted under the chassis encased in some kind of home made plastic trays for protection and low center of gravity. I am brainstorming about a body for it. I think I may end up fabricating something out of Lexan kind of like a wedge design to keep the air out from under the vehicle, and made in a way so as to give maximum downforce to keep it on the ground. Possibly a front wing or difuser will help keep the front end planted. I really want to make this thing right the first time, so I do not destroy it and have to start over again of constantly make changes to improve its efficiency. I am in no rush so I can take my sweet time with it.

Kcaz25 09.11.2009 09:30 AM

Sounds like ya'll have had a hard time.

Sounds like a great plan! That Bolido is gonna be killer! Thats one big piece of hardware!

MAGNOLIA 09.11.2009 07:55 PM

Yes,I have seen Matt's Twin Plettenberg's on the Lightning. I would have to go all out to top that one. Very nice rig you have there Jerry2kone. I like the double mono. I need to study up on the Bolido.....Maybe two of those mounted to a Lightning would be something to see???? I am new to this Electric world as I have only had Nitro in the past with the exception of two other Lightning chassis' that I sold before doing anything to them. I am going to make this one an all out custom and see if I like it......if not it will be sold. I will post pics somewhere around Christmas as the chassis is on it's way to get it's "BLING BLING" put on. Stay tuned.

_paralyzed_ 09.11.2009 08:42 PM

the bolido is directly below the big maxx in the link I gave in post #5.

a bargain at $659.00:intello:

Rivermaxx 09.11.2009 09:46 PM

Welcome

Welcome back Matt. Have not seen you out here very much lately. Always nice to see your trucks. I hoped that you might chime in here at some point and put in your two cents. Anything new on your chassis venture? Just checking Sir.
