Getting a little bummed out

Castle has by far the BEST customer service and I wouldn't change a thing about their products but; I'm getting a little worn out over these constant little problems I've ben having.

I received back a couple weeks ago a M.M.M. for a repair ( some chip came off the board and was repaired and sent back to me within a very reasonable amount of time, for that I thank you very much)
Anyway, I had another M.M.M. failure in my buggy, just stopped working ? I took my newly received M.M.M. and removed the switch and shortened the RX wire to about 5", programmed it via laptop and after installing it would not power up ? No lights, beeps or anything Just Dead ?
I trouble shot everything, it's not RX,motor or wire probs, just a ESC thats DOA ? The other failure is pretty much the same, fan only, no lights or beeps?

3 failures from 3 possible different reasons within 3-4 weeks, regardless this is getting a little old. Again, I'm not bitchin', just really bummed out because now I have to rob from another truck just to run my buggy Sunday and now I'm gonna have to put back together 3 trucks when all this gets fixed ARRGGGGG ! ! !:grrrrrr:

You got the Brushlessboy16 curse

as many of them that have failed you cant expect everything to be perfect.

They will take care of you.

lincpimp 10.03.2009 02:19 PM

Always a good idea to bench test stuff when you get it. That being said I have 2 brand new MMM that I have never even opened the boxes... Sucks for you dude, but that is just life sometimes. Hope you have better success with the next one!

I never expected perfection ? I'm old enough to understand that SHIZ Happens.
I wouldn't wish the BB16 curse on anyone, your the reason Castles always has a 2-3 week wait taking care of all your stuff LOL

you must be using maxamps nimh's geared for 100mph:lol:
i still think the issues are mostly user related, but since only the guys who made the MMM know all about it, we can only guess.
good luck on your next monsta, maby give the new tekin a raz in one of the trucks?

suicideneil 10.03.2009 05:54 PM

Sounds more like the AAngel curse if you ask me...

Gee 10.03.2009 10:57 PM

Yeah, it looks like it's your turn for the AAngel curse. I had it a while back. It doesn't stay too long before it moves on to the next victim. Good luck.

it must have settled on me permanently. I had one fail yesterday and this was a replacement that they sent and I only had three races on it. Just stopped working. Then, I plugged it back up and now it comes back on like nothing happened. I am afraid to run it in my car. Ghost in the machine.

I have burnt up 3 Tekins this year and 2 MMMs.

I just wish the mfg's would just make a bullet proof $400-$500 ESC. Spare no expense on the design and durability. I rather just pay the money once for one I know won't have a random failure versus $180 but I gotta buy three of them for my tool box/spares.

BrianG 10.05.2009 05:30 PM

The trouble is, most people aren't willing to pay that kind of cash these days when you can get cheaper ones that work for far less. The market just isn't there IMO. Besides, with the power levels we run, it would be VERY difficult to make it fool proof. Even if the software was monitoring everything, currents can rise too fast for anything to compensate.

Edumakated 10.05.2009 05:42 PM

Brian:

I think there is a market for it. Racers don't seem to be as budget constrained. Bashers maybe, but I know the guys that race 1/8 scale will spend $400 bucks+ on a ESC and not think twice about it if it is more reliable. Engine mfg's don't seem to have a problem selling $400 mills to racers. 1/8 racing isn't a budget hobby by any stretch. Nothing will ever be bullet proof, but right now the failures just seem to frequent imho. Nitro guys would go nuts if they went through FIVE engines over a summer of racing.

TexasSP 10.05.2009 06:01 PM

You can always go for one of the newer MGM's.

Edit: Here you go, yours for the low price of 360. I am sure it is tough but being MGM will not be near as smooth as the MMM or RX8.

So I guess I became victim as well, except this time it burnt up! Flames and all. I had been running this setup for a while quite successfully. Then I just installed the G4 chassis on Sunday night. Everything was mocked up and ready to go. I just tried to run it I made 2 50ft passes in my backyard. Then it was like someone supercharged the setup. I could really hear the motor rev full RPM at 25% throttle, then she flamed up. I ran over and yanked out the Hyperions, didn't want to lose those, and disconnected the motor and let it smolder a little bit before cutting it out.

And all I did was change chassis...

Bondonutz 10.05.2009 07:50 PM

I'm starting to get worried now that at any day I could potentally lose a several hundreds of dollars of RC stuff by plugging in a ESC ?

We need Insurance like on the 1:1 cars ???

BTW, sorry to hear of your unfortunate problem. Hope it gets remedied quickly thru Castle.

riverat1540 10.05.2009 08:00 PM

hey that looks like my last one. cant wait to get my replacement, this becoming all too common

nitrostarter 10.05.2009 08:23 PM

I'll be shipping it off in the morning... I need to get a replacement for now tho...

nitrostarter 10.05.2009 10:20 PM

How do you guys test a motor without a ESC to make sure its ok? Its still strongly magnetic and doesn't smell funny. Any suggestions?

shaunjohnson 10.06.2009 01:16 AM

put 6v across each of the phases to see if one is properly fried, just jab it.
or i guess you could mesure the resistance of each phase and look for a funny number.

Semi Pro 10.06.2009 05:54 AM

i guess i have been really lucky this year, this is the first year i didnt fry an esc

redshift 10.06.2009 09:21 AM

Are most of the failures still happening on 6S?

A buddy has a V3, bought Dec. '08, runs 4S and no issues.

I don't think I've ever seen a MMM fail on 4S, have there been any?

nitrostarter 10.06.2009 10:18 AM

Mine was on 4s Hyperions 5500's with a Neu 1515/1.5D/F in a Emaxx geared for 45mph. It ran great for about 8-10 runs since I built it.

DwightSchrute 10.06.2009 01:43 PM

i've fried 5 mmm's on 6S. what's weird is that i've only ever fried them in my G4, and i gear it very conservatively.

but 5 failures, 4 were blown caps and one BEC.

the 8ights on the other hand are my speed vehicles and i gear them 43/25. the mmm's have never failed there once. the only difference is weight, gearing and grass. my 8ights are geared very high, they never see the grass and they are much lighter than my G4.

after my last smoke, i dropped the rx8 in it with great success.

Bondonutz 10.06.2009 03:41 PM

All my trucks are and were geared conservatively when I had my failures (5) and was running 4s in every one. Over the course of 2yrs, so after it's all said and done I guess that aint to dang bad ? I have 2 I run 5s and no problems yet (fat fingers crossed)

What version mmm's were those that failed?

Bondonutz 10.06.2009 03:51 PM

(1)-V1
(1)-V2
(4)-V3's Of all the V3's, one crapped out in Nov last year and the rest this year.

riverat1540 10.06.2009 03:57 PM

ive had one fail on 5s in my crt truggy and one just fail on my muggy on 6s the muggy it just stopped like the switch had flopped. i turned it off then on and it started to smoke followed by a flame throwing monster, and my truggy on 5s all i did was plug it in flip the switch and and it started to smoke.

nitrostarter 10.06.2009 03:58 PM

V3 for me...

Semi Pro 10.06.2009 04:07 PM

im still useing my v2 on 6cell,and my v3 on 5cell

riverat1540 10.06.2009 04:09 PM

mine were both v3 as well
