Nuclear Battery

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8297934.stm

Not my find, but I saw it in RCGroups.

jhautz 10.08.2009 07:13 PM

Pretty cool stuff.:intello:

And people think that a lipo fire is bad! Can you imagine a mushroom cloud in the middle of the RC track. LOL

It would be awesome...I need something liek this.

zeropointbug 10.08.2009 08:19 PM

Was this the one that you mentioned a few months back? I remember you talking to me about nuclear battery.

zeropointbug 10.08.2009 08:58 PM

How I yearn for the day that we can use nuclear batteries in cars, if the nuclear battery is not powerful enough, then use some ultra caps, or some sort of power battery (A123, or Altair Nanosafe).

That was another one, but this one will suit our hobby better I think .

Finnster 10.08.2009 09:18 PM

I have tons of fission batteries, but they are so heavy you can't carry many of them, and they are not worth that many caps.

Best use I've found yet is mixing them with 20lbs of wild ponga fruit and some yeast to brew up some nice moonshine.
I have heard they are great for powering up giant combat robots, but I have yet to confirm this.

zeropointbug 10.09.2009 12:27 PM

LOL

Better watch out finnster, if you get your fission batteries taken away, you might end up like this guy...

Amazing!!! Hilarious, yet very disturbing - that kid has some serious issues.

lutach 10.09.2009 06:28 PM

That has to be fake.

that's what games like WoW do to people. IT'S LIKE VIRTUAL CRACK!

my little brother did a less dramatic version of that when his runescape membership got canceled:lol: he was spending 8-10 hours a day on the game and it seemed like it became his primary life while reality was his secondary life. it consumed his life. his personality changed after about 2 weeks of not playing. after the anger and depression subsided, he started actually talking to friends in reality and not in the game.

That "kid" needs to lay off the Slipknot for a while... Better yet just put him in the asylum now before he shoots up his high school. IF that video is even "real"...

zeropointbug 10.09.2009 07:28 PM

I have thought whether it was real or not, but then thought, how can someone act like that if he/she is not like that PERSONALLY. I don't know, seems kinda real to me, IMO. :oh:

Sorry Luc, didn't mean for the thread to be hijacked like this... can we get back to the thread topic, if anyone has anything to say?

suicideneil 10.09.2009 07:46 PM

Q. What do scientists like to eat for dinner?

A. Fission chips.

(sounds like fish & chips)

I don't mind...It seemed like that kid got a hold of some Nuclear Battery .

I love your new Avatar and signature. I got something real good coming to me as soon as all the results are in. It'll open people's eyes for real. Who knows, I might even win a Noble Prize.

I know, but this will have more impact then most of the people that have won one. It will definitely make people ask questions and probably change the world.

Way cool on the nuclear batteries, but I'd hate for everyone to be killed by nuclear fallout at the racetrack if my battery explodes...
LOL at that video...

LOL at that video...

One can always overbuild the pack case (ROAR would love this ). From what I see, it might not be dangerous at all. It would be nice not to have to worry about charging your battery for let say 10-20yrs lol. If it does have as much energy as they claim, it would be the battery for me to try my 1.5T AMP Guzzler motor .

BL_RV0 10.10.2009 08:23 PM

Would be nice to have a battery that can put out 1000A cont at 4.2v/cell at ambient temp....

LOL at that video...

Forgot to mention that the battery is safe. Here's what the article says,

"And although the whole idea hinges on the use of radioactive materials, the devices are safe under normal operating conditions.

"People hear the word 'nuclear' and think of something very dangerous," Dr Jae said.

"However, nuclear power sources have already been safely powering a variety of devices, such as pacemakers, space satellites and underwater systems.""

I wonder how much current that little cell there can provide?

I had to watch them all, when I click the OG link on this thread and saw there were more. I had to see, I made my wife watch and told her thats why Anthony cant play W.O.W. anymore. See what happens LOL I cut the kid off a year ago when I caught him up at 3am in his underwear yelling at the PC (not quite as severe) but rediculous none the less. .. On a side note I have a 36 year old friend who didnt leave his house for 2 years except to get drive through food and gained 150 lbs playing WOW for 2 years straight. That craps evil. Must have beer flavored nipples

Takedown 10.13.2009 02:19 PM

Beleive it or not theres like 4 videos of that kid. Hes seriously on crack.....

eovnu87435ds 10.13.2009 10:58 PM

I know a kid, who's now 18or 19, failing community college, and it's because of WoW. He started playing it, and the next day I told him that it is more addictive than crack. He said he doubted it. 6 months later, he cried for 3 days when his account got hacked. Then he invested in buying one of those tokens that has a 6 digit number that changes every 60 seconds, specially made for world of warcraft accounts.

It makes me proud to say that I may be a computer geek, but at least I don't play WoW.

What's_nitro? 10.14.2009 12:18 AM

I play EVE online.... :mdr:

rawfuls 10.14.2009 12:28 AM

Yeah, my friends want me to start playing WoW, I refuse to.

I became addicted to other games, like CSS (Counter Strike Source), DOD (Day of Defeat)
If I want to, I can stop anytime I want!

Lol, I know I'm addicted, and I try as much as I can to try and stop, I'm only down by playing only weekends! I think that's a huge leap from over 4 hours a day during the summer!:rofl::yes:

What's_nitro? 10.14.2009 12:32 AM

Man, I use to be able to headshot everyone in Halo for PC... Just gimme the pistol and the rest o' y'all go find cover! Yes, I was even in a "pistols only" clan. That was also when I played at least 4 hours every night. Then I got a full-time job...

Finnster 10.14.2009 12:34 AM

I can't stop watching those vids. He's got his own channel. Freakout 6&7 are classic when he gets beaten up my first his grandmother, then his dog. lol!!!!

"That's it, I'm calling your Mother!"
-"I'M CALLING MY MOM AND TELL HER YOU HIT ME IN THE FREAKIN' EYE!!!!!"
"Where's that phone, you got it up your ass too?"
-"THAT'S NOT FREAKING FUNNY!!!"

Eve online is SO much better than Wow, I got my brother's room mate addicted to it

I used to play CSS and DoD for hours on end, but I never flipped out when my router would foul up and not let me connect...

How about those nuclear batteries? A long way off, but certainly an ambitious goal to get one to power a decent RC.

suicideneil 10.15.2009 01:17 PM

I dunno, I have a feeling something like this will happen to some unfortunatate noob who miss wires his nuclear cells....

 Maybe you forgot to read the article. But let say if the nuclear battery is powerful enough to supply the AMPs we need, if you do wire it the wrong way, it'll just keep heating the wire, solder or connectors to a point they'll just break away and by that time that person doesn't realize it's wrong, then he/she should not be in the hobby in the first place. That was funny though.

zeropointbug 10.15.2009 10:07 PM

Is all I have to say.
