Belt drive 4wd...

magman 10.10.2009 09:36 PM

Belt drive....:( I have a 18B and love the shaft drive. Hard enough working on a 1/10 belt drive...an 1/18 scale must be a PITA

Modding_out 10.10.2009 09:48 PM

Belt drive? wth? why didn't they use there existing shaft driven set up:whip:

Bondonutz 10.10.2009 09:53 PM

I got my first up close look at the SC10 today at the track, NICE TRUCK
SC18, Sorry. Yawn.

Not to disagree...but, the existing models shafts are pretty quiet. Besdies, I have tortured my 18B and have yet to blow a diff in 2+ yrs. so why change things?

At least the belts are totally enclosed to keep out the pebbles and dirt. I wish AE would start using all metric hardware though. Do they use metric on any vehicles yet or still all SAE?

MetalMan 10.11.2009 06:20 PM

Their current 1/8 and 1/18 use all metric hardware, so I imagine this will too.

I saw a CASTLE CREATIONS CM2068 MAMBA 1/18 BRUSHLESS SYSTEM COMP PACKAGE how would that work. the sc18 is belt driven so could it handle it.
thanks.
if not how would the CASTLE CREATIONS CM2068 MAMBA 1/18 BRUSHLESS SYSTEM COMP PACKAGE work in my rc18mt and at what gear ratio?

simplechamp 04.09.2010 10:35 PM

For the ESC I would go with the Mamba Micro Pro 1/18, not the older Mamba 1/18 or Sidewinder 1/18 (which are pretty much the same thing). Some people even move up to the Sidewinder 1/10 for running really hot (performance, not temp) setups in their 1/18 vehicles.

For the motor I would suggest trying the 5400kv first before the 6800kv, should be plenty fast and will have a little more torque.

E-Revonut 04.09.2010 11:53 PM

associated has moved all their 1/18 stuff to this new platform now. I have the old shaft style rc18t and I'm running an old Mamba25 with their 5400kv motor and it's stupid fast on 2s lipo. With a 6cell NiMh it's still fast, for the track I have went as far as making a 4 cell nimh pack and that still has plenty of speed. So if your going to run on a track and plan on running 2s lipo I would use the 4600kv option. If your planning on speed runs you can always put a 3s in there.

I have re-evaluated my opinion of the SC18. I had did a little reading and discovered the new layout and belt drive, steering redesign. I have to say, looks much more reliable than the original. Also coming w/2.4 is a bonus, I will consider buying one IF friends get one.

bigsteel 04.11.2010 02:50 AM

i literally saw this post and bought one, i wanted something for some quick inside/outside bashing and didnt want a mini-t and this thing looks sweet, not sure if im going BL on it quite yet though.--josh

bigsteel 04.14.2010 09:49 AM

bought a micro pro and a 5400kv castle for it,man this little bugger's going to rip! the truck will be here in a few days and about a week and a half for the ESC/motor!--josh

A 15-17t pinion is about right for that setup, depends on what voltage your running. I run a 17tbon anything from 4 cell nimh to 2s lipo. 15t doesn't put enough load on the motor with lipo power. Of course this is all on an old style rc18t, I don't know how it will work in the new setup with a shortcourse setup
