which motor for my 8ight t
Well I got a losi 8ight t I plan on doing the rc monster mount with a losi battery tray.
Question is which motor should I run. I really like the medusa research motors. Or I can take. My 2200kv motor out of my buggy and buy something else for that also what size medusa should I go with. Thanks for your input I will be running this off a mmm esc. On 4s and 5s batterys. |
Medusa is out of business w/ motors now from my understanding.. Typically truggy drivers go for a 1700kv ish motor w/ a 5s lipo config. The 2200kv Monster will do the trick though if it's not needed in the buggy. Just make sure you have GOOD 4s lipo's that can take a ton of draw, junk packs will die quick in Truggy setups.

I run a RX8 2000 combo in my 6T on 4S. It's real reliable.
I used Brian G's calculator to determine what Tekin system I was going to buy. I configured it out to what motor I needed by finding the right rpm range for best efficiency. The 2000KV on 4S is 30K rpms. Perfect if you ask me. Low temps and great run-times geared 46:16. You might want to check his sight out: http://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/_top_speed.html Hope this makes sense. |
I run the MMM with a 1515 2.5d on five cells geared 46/16 with my 8t 1.0 and that's all i would want to run everything run real cool.

Problem is them neu motors are so expensive. I think I will just use the 2200 castle motor on 4s and 5s. See how I like it.
|
Pick up a Tekin 1700kv Truggy motor and run it on 5s. Not as expensive as Neu.

yea i decided on the 2200kv in there. i am going to go with a 11 or 12 t pinion.
|
Anyone know the recommended RPM range for the 2200kv Neu/Castle motor?
|
30-35k rpms for best efficiency.
|
Excellent, so looking at the calculator then with my proposed 15/48 4S setup then it says it will be 32500rpm....should be spot on!! :yipi:
|
that would be good i believe.

14t is enough on even big tracks w/ a 2200kv motor on 4s lipo, anything more just reduces run time more than anything so be careful. Wheel bloat needs to be calculated for top speed +1" w/ truggy tires at WOT.
|
i feel the speed isnt there running 12/49 in my 8ight t. seems really slow compared to my buggy. Maybe it is just that it is a truggy compared to a buggy. The buggy i have geared with a 17 tooth pinion. And it is just plain outright fast.
The truggy seems slugish on top end. Like i am only getting maybe 25 mph not enough for my taste on straight aways. I am going to play with gearing once i get it back together hit the edge of a curb and broke some stuff. Oppps. |
so on 4s and 5s which would you pick
Medusa 36-70-2000kv 36-70-1600kv Again these will be run on both 4s and 5s. |
4s 14t for 95% of the tracks out there... maybe 15t if you just have sick long straights.. nothing like that in NY though.
5s 12t is too much with a 2200kv Keep in mind you want just enough speed so that you are topped out WOT about 1/2 way down the straight away for max speed... |
yea nothing to long on the straights here in jersey either. Maybe i will bump it up to a 14t and see how i like it.
5s wont happen till i get some extra cash. also anyone that runs 5s do you think 5s 3000mah packs will do the job. |
That 1600 isn't going to run well on 4S. So the 2000 would be a better choice.
