My Revo 5T Baja 1:5 - sTi-Rev5T brushless alias E-Slayer 4x4 5T

Hello boys and girls,

you want it! It try to write good english. I hope you can understand me.
You said it in the homemade baja thread, so I show you my project - not finished.

I love the Baja 5T Body since the Baja 5T News. But I drove the Body only in my dreams (as brushless edition ) Since march i knew about the Savage 5T. The car which is not available in USA, so there are no items at Ebay.com. So I had to buy the first used modell at germanys ebay.

Of course I had to buy unique dogbones, the 5T Body and some wheels/tires for my project. But I didn't know about the possibility of a Revo 5T Baja.
There are no spare parts available too...

The Savage 5T was plan B but now I sold the Savage 5T remains ... The Revo 5T Baja looks good to me ^^

Here the story. I hope the picture URLS are correct. All pics here, my other project will follow soon onliner.

Start to begin the build of an stretchchassis. It is a U-profil 30x80x30x3 mm Al6060 like the Revo Platinum Chassis.

Savage 5T vs my Revo 5T Baja

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_625IY0TZOeA/Su..._Revo%205T.jpg
Test Setup from my Movie, First Outdoor test. a lehner 1920/19 (170g). With Body the car was 5.4kg heavy. And there was no oil in the shocks ^^

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_625IY0TZOeA/Su...wichtstest.jpg
This was the test of the new springs 19lb Hot Racing. More stiffer than the Traxxas blue/lila one. The car was 8kg heavy only for the test.

Not finished yet!
Next time, I need a motor. I will buy a lehner LMT2240/13 Highamp (450g) with 5mm shaft. With 6S Lipo and the MMMv3 I will try it. And I need some more 23mm hex adapter. One of four was damaged since shipping to me ... I put 0.5mm "PVC" around it to geht direct fit 24mm hex for the Revo axles. Nice one so I can sell the HPI Savage 24mm hexs $.$ (; and use Baja wheels on my rig. :D

Stay tuned

suicideneil 11.02.2009 08:37 PM

Nice work dude, I can see Traxxas making something like this to compete with HPI- just needs the slash/ slayer front and rear bumpers and you'd think it was a production truck.. until you take the shell off...

I think your truck so far is winning the longest name contest for a project truck lol, cool project though.

titan 11.03.2009 04:48 AM

google extended the search field to encourage people to specify the search term.
The project name is sTi-Rev5T, but not everybody know the content. So I often use more words to descripe it better for search&find too. No angry about meaningless headline, or?

By the way, I do not know the real name. If you scale up a Slayer (length AND width) you can get this car - so it is a Slayer or? (Short Course class) - But technical it is only a stretched Revo (scaling length only). (No Monster Class anymore - tires under body).

I think it is difficult and this way the best way to be found(able?).

If somebody read the headline, you know the content, right? (If You somebody from this hobby ^^)

just my 2 cent or so ^^

Thanks
titan

Ah I understand now, its name is like a E-bay listing!

JThiessen 11.15.2009 01:11 PM

Since you have the space, I'd put some better shocks on this beast. The revo shocks are just barely good enough for a stock length/weight Revo, you are going pound the bejesus out of them.

Your arms, hinge pins and bulkheads would be the next things to need upgrading - flextek and FLM???

The length of the center drive shaft(s) might also be something to watch. If you start breaking/bending them, you might want to put in a carrier bearing.

Forgot to say it - nice work! But I would've kept the Savage!

titan 11.22.2009 05:09 AM

Thanks. This week my motor should arrive to me :D

A drive shaft carrier, i hope it won't start bending. In the Savage 5T is no carrier too - but it is only a 5.9ccm nitro motor. So I have really to watch it.

I hope the Revo axles can handle it too - or I upgrade to summit axles. Until now, there are no alu parts in my mind. We will see :)

Any News Titan of your "Revo 5t"?

any strength test of the revo chassis? are revo's diff as strong as savage 5t'sone?

I'm trying, me too, to convert a Revo to Revo 5t with the difference that i use two plastic revo's chassis!
I ll waybe post some pics if someone is interested!

Guillaume (sorry for my bad english^^)

titan 11.22.2009 06:01 AM

Feel free to post Your Revo 5T pics :)

There are two more heavyer Diffs available than stock Savage 5T diffs ... (flux and new modul 1.5 or 2.0 Diffs from HPI). I like the E-Revo diffs with the carriers in it. No tests of the chassis. How could I test it?
I am waiting for motor and new 23mm hexs. First one are "factory-damaged".

greets to france :)

Titan

Helly 11.23.2009 04:24 PM

How u could test it? :sarcastic:

Just with a hard bash session or with a hard jump!! :mdr::lol:

How have you uptade your 23mm hex? any 0.5mm pvc plate will work?
what ll be your next setup?
I will use my old Neu 1515 with 7s2p A123 and a MMM, i hope it will work!

greets to deutschland^^,

Hi, an Update short for Xmas.

The project motor arrived a LMT 2240/13 HA (450g, 1160kv)

Looks good. But some possible improvements...

Sway bars

Tighter slipper clutch :)

Looking good

titan 12.16.2009 04:18 AM

The springs are the stiffest on market. I see no chance for sway bar do the job. The front sway bar has no room, because of the motor.
The MMM was set to 100% punchcontol, so it looks non agil :)

suicideneil 12.16.2009 12:15 PM

Any way to lower the suspension a bit more- even with stiff springs, there is alot of chassis roll in the corners, and the front even really dives down when you hit the brakes.

Looks great otherwise, flies really well for such a large truck

TexasSP 12.16.2009 03:11 PM

I am with neil, lowering the suspension and limiting the travel would help a lot I think. I think based on the videos the swaybars at least on the rear with the stiffest bar would be a big help. Otherwise looking nice.

titan 02.04.2010 07:15 AM

No great Updates. Snow and Ice everywhere ... damnit.

I just play around with a E-Revo Rx Box (hide miles of wires), an 2065 Traxxas Shift Servo (perfect place found) and 28 LEDs (little reallife touch) ;)
But nothing finished yet and no pic update sry.

But I like too see Hellys rig too. :)

Today I tested the LED System Outside. I don't know, why the place was lighted on sunday ... but okay. So I saw the connection wire to power on ^^

PS The shocksystem wasn't updated.

I like that lighting kit, very realistic how the brakes get brighter when you stomp on them- got a link at all?

titan 02.08.2010 12:03 PM

Thanks, i use the DElight controller for this lightsystem.

I search for Revo Flextek RC Arms for my rig. :/

titan

suicideneil 02.19.2010 01:49 PM

I fear your search will be in vain; flextech no longer make their suspension arms due to the cost of Titanium, so tracking down a retailer with some in stock will be a mission & a half...

titan 02.19.2010 02:12 PM

I know, because of this I look and ask here and there :) Maxx and LST is every where - but revo - failed. There could be a privat seller too.
But RPM is nice too - flextek would be nice to have :D

The snow becomes liquid :D

titan 04.27.2010 04:18 PM

Okay, subscripers know more :D

There is the Rockers P90 P2 are installed now. Shockoil is 80wt and now sway bar, because the originals are useless with this stiff shocks... Last drive looks good to me.

Please feel free to tell me your ideas.

The suspension looks nice and smooth, but its still much too soft I reckon- the rear end drags along under acceleration & the front end actually scraped the floor when you were hard on the brakes- I just dont think revo shocks are larger enough for a 5th scale vehicle weighing 15lbs. Might want to look at bigger shocks and mount the shock tower further back, to allow the same travel but also allow stiffer springs to be used that can support a higher weight...

Thats my feeling anyway, but its still a kickass truck

titan 04.28.2010 02:45 AM

Thankx for your input. What Video number you saw this? There is some time and changing between the movies. The last stand is number 7#. The #6 was with long travel set, but there is no way to use this useful.

I do not know, how heavy the car is in #7. (more than 15 lbs (7kg+))

But the body hit the wheels not the floor (; If I could set the body higher the soft problem increases. (lever rule)

That is the same problem I had with my 1/5th revo. Mine weighed almost or just over 14lbs. Even with the stiffest Traxxas springs, the shocks really can't support the weight of the truck very well and would sit at the bottom half of the travel range. Getting the body roll under control wasn't as bad using the sway bars, which I'd recommend you try putting back on at least to test out.

In the video on grass with the kids around you I too noticed the front of the truck nosing down. The tires definitely hit the body, don't know if anything hit the ground. Not much you can do about it though. Like you said raising the body isn't the greatest idea, since it weighs about a pound. But mabe the sway bars will counter act that. I used the Traxxas sways on mine, with the stiff bars on the front and back. I left the front links toward the top of the bar, but lowered the rears as much as possible to make it stiffer. Like I said I'd give it a shot again. Maybe bump the shock oil wieght up to 90 or 100 too. Good job though, its looking good.

suicideneil 04.29.2010 09:21 PM

Ah, I think the body was hitting the wheels and not the floor, my mistake.

I wonder if you could double up the shocks, so there are 2 on each rocker?...

titan 04.30.2010 03:46 AM

@Overdriven
Where can I ready about your project? What springs you have mounted, same like me? I can preload it, so there is no negative travel anymore. But it is like a onroader. I have a video, I will look if it is youtubeable.

The problem is: in the front is no room for modifications. It would hit the motor every-time.

I will make a technical picture to show the geometry problem :D
Thanks

Titan

Overdriven 04.30.2010 10:26 AM

The thread is here http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20579 Ive made some changes since then though. I now run a dual battery setup, with the packs mounted next to the transmission just behind the steering servo. I also welded up a rollcage to help support the body in a rollover and provides a place to mount the side body posts since I went with a stock Baja 5t body. I did add traxxas aluminum pillow balls, rocker posts, tie rods + pushrods, and ball ends. I forget the spring specs at the moment, I think they're Traxxas black all around. I'll post some pics and exact spring specs when I get home.

Overdriven 05.01.2010 07:11 PM

This is what mine looks like now, with the electronics robbed from it.
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...6/IMG_1618.jpg
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...6/IMG_1623.jpg

The battery packs sit on either side of the transmission in between the side body posts now. The springs are Traxxas Tan (4.1) up front and Black (4.4) out back, with P2 rockers. I'm tempted to step up to some stiffer springs and giving her another go. This project kinda stalled on me due to other vehicles that are more fun to drive really fast on the street and yard in front of my house. Currently the handling is alot better with less body roll than before and seems less than in your videos. I think thats mostly due to the sway bars though.

titan 05.02.2010 04:07 AM

Yes, I found your project. Traxxas Tan and Black is a joke to me (; I had to use blue and purple (5.5 and 6.4). At the end I ordered a more stiff spring than purple.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_625IY0TZOeA/Su...e%20Federn.jpg

The number is smaller. In my hand it feels stiffer. Video 1-7 is with long travel rockers, this makes it extremly "weak?" .

greets titan

PS I will add the sway bar in the rear and make a video. Ohh I should preorder alu rockers to hold the stress...

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_625IY0TZOeA/S7...05T_Gesamt.jpg

Overdriven 05.03.2010 10:10 AM

As far as the rockers go I don't think aluminum is necessary as I've heard of only 1 person breaking a rocker. You might want to try p2's instead of the long travel though. The long travel raises the truck up, but also provides the suspension alot of leverage against the shocks. Switching from p1 to p2 made a big difference in the handling for me. And I am able to maintain good ground clearance, close to what you have now, by moving the pushrods to the inner holes on the arms. I just need stiffer springs to support the weight with the electronics on it. This is assuming you're not perfectly happy with the handling and want to change it of course. Hope this helps if you do.

titan 05.03.2010 10:47 AM

Video 7 and 8 are already with P2 rockers (stock). I throw the long travel already away. (;

I meaned I need alu rockers because of a original like sway bar. The rear one is fixed with M3 screws to the plastic. My springs are much stiffer than stiffest traxxas on (blue/purple).

How did you get the wattage/rpm to show like that?

Or.. how do you get to see the report of a drive on your Castle Link? Do you need to activate something?

Great truck.

titan 09.08.2010 11:15 AM

I used a EagleTree Logger to collect the informations. There is a software to play the log in numbers - naked. I record this numbers and syncronize it with the video of the drive. Than you can see the DriveVideo together with electric informations. :)
