center diff mount

anybody know if there is a center diff mount availables for the Revo 3.3 that would eliminate the need of the transmission?

mistercrash 12.06.2009 01:25 AM

I think the only option is to fabricate something yourself or modify something already available for other vehicals. I found this thread, this guy did a very good job.

Thanks MC. Yea because the center I think is just too top-heavy, and my Revo sure likes to flip over when turning hi-speed on the street. :whip: I think by somehow eliminating the center transmission and just only having a center diff would lower the truck's cog and improve performance a lot!

Search through the thread I posted, there is a clear picture of the mount he made to hold the motor and center diff. It is very simple and relatively easy to make with simple tools.

Urgeoner 12.06.2009 04:05 PM

If I had a milling machine I'd try to make one! That one piece that spans the underside looks pretty hard to make.

mistercrash 12.06.2009 08:18 PM

Milling machine? All you need is a hacksaw, files, drill and tap. It's just 4 pieces of flat stock shaped, drilled and taped just right. The motor/rear of CD mount is three pieces and the mount for the front of the CD is just one piece. Easy to make. It just takes a bit of patience and dedication. The black bottom part is just the bottom part of the stock nitro Revo middle skid plate that he screwed to the mounts he made.

dude thats sweet:yes:

Urgeoner 12.07.2009 10:17 PM

oh I see now. The other photos had me thinking that it looked like one solid piece and not 3 seperate pieces screwed together. thanks mc!

shaunjohnson 12.08.2009 12:31 AM

that's it!!!
sooooo making one of them!!!
prolly can use a cut in half revo tranny to make the mounting of the diff a little easier?

maybe!

Urgeoner 02.02.2010 09:40 PM

okay. I ordered a flat sheet of 5/16" 6061 stock. I am going to try this!

mbx1275 02.17.2010 06:27 AM

ditto im in on this

AMorgan 02.17.2010 09:29 AM

The transmission is the only think keeping me in the MT class and out of the jaws of the truggies, I'll stick with my trans! GL with the project.

simplechamp 02.17.2010 05:29 PM

Didn't Mike just release a universal center diff motor mount that can be fitted to a wide variety of different vehicles?

EDIT: http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail.php?prod=rcmcdmm Out of stock already though

Urgeoner 02.19.2010 02:21 AM

Yea and the likelihood Mike will make them again?
BTW the aluminum came to be 3/8" not 5/16 like I ordered...Oh well gotta make due with it I suppose. I'll be using a hacksaw and files mostly, and drill.

mopar1994 03.04.2010 12:20 AM

When those universal mounts are back in stock I'm definitely gona get one and put it on my revo

Urgeoner 05.16.2010 04:41 PM

I just started to make mine, shamelessly copying Lonewolf's design. Cut out of 3/8" aluminum, its pretty thick...I just used my brothers bandsaw and my handheld drill. I want to drill the hole for the center diff bearings but all the hardware stores sell the 5/8" bits at like $18 a piece and thats a bit too much for me atm for a bit I will hardly ever use..:whip: I saw a step bit at one store but it wont go deep into the thick metal..
Any thoughts?

mopar1994 05.16.2010 06:10 PM

if the step drill goes half way through you could just drill it from both sides. i cant think of anything else.

Urgeoner 05.16.2010 06:20 PM

Is 5/8" the right bit to use for the bearing then? Because I also measured a diameter of 16mm.

Chadworkz 05.16.2010 06:23 PM

Technically, a 16mm drill bit is the correct bit to use, because a 5/8" bit is only 15.875mm.

What's_nitro? 05.16.2010 07:29 PM

Yeah bearings need to be fitted very precisely to avoid abnormal wear.

Is $12 better? http://cgi.ebay.com/16mm-Drill-Bit-/...item1c127fb267

Or see if this guy will accept $10? http://cgi.ebay.com/National-Twist-D...item2557529352

Now that I think about it though, if you drill them by hand chances are the hole will be a bit bigger than the bit since your arm cannot mimic a drill press. That 1/8mm might not matter in the end...

LOL Nitro, I am watching both of those bits, I already asked a question to merlins about the chuck size. I always use ebay haha.
My brother has a very old craftsman drill press, and I believe it only goes to 3/8" so I gotta find a bit that fits 3/8 chuck.
EDIT:
Progress so far...

I need to figure out a way to sink the motor mount bolt slots. but here it is more or less:

Urgeoner 06.05.2010 08:53 PM

Well, this thing handles great! I can make complete 180* turns going pretty quick now and it won't tip over like it used to do. Problem is i keep forgetting to thred lock my pinions so I've lost 2 already. :whip:

bigsteel 06.08.2010 08:21 AM

You can usually find cheap counter sinking bits at home depot, then just put it into a drill and run it back and fourth along the mounting holes,it won't be perfect bit it'll work.--Josh
