Batteries touch metal chassis and cause sparks?

Sometimes when I put my 8 cell ib3800's in my e revo, i notice the end of the batterys touch the chassis and causes a spark, I was just wondering if this is anything to worry about, and is it damaging the cells.

Thank you,

Sylvester 03.04.2006 02:00 PM

I had the same thing happen to me, they could damage the cells, if iwere you, id put some electrical tape around the batteries where the bars are, so it doesnt short circut.

E-maxx-kid 03.04.2006 02:13 PM

Ok cheers put some tape on it now, hope I aint done any damge the previous times it has happend.

maxxdude1234 03.04.2006 03:10 PM

Even better. Why don't you put some heatshrink over your batteries?

Absolutely -to do the least. Sparky no Goody - Lets not even think about lipo sparky.......:026:

maxxdude1234 03.04.2006 04:02 PM

lipo sparky = mulcho $$$$$$$$

coolhandcountry 03.04.2006 04:05 PM

It shortens run time while sparking. It can fry your esc to. Shrink is a good option. Some foam padding tape something.

E-maxx-kid 03.04.2006 04:07 PM

Luckily it wernt connect to the esc :), seems ok with electrical tape, and the gorilla foam padding now, i cant fit 8 flat on the side of the servo, using the emaxx steering horn?

Any solutions?

Thanks,

coolhandcountry 03.04.2006 04:37 PM

yeah. I would get the ue.

E-maxx-kid 03.04.2006 04:40 PM

Does'nt fit the E-Revo, never mind ive modded the straps so that the batts do fit.

This thing is fast compared to a hv maxx!

How fast u reckon i should be getting, 16 cells, 7xl, 20/66.

thanks,

squeeforever 03.05.2006 12:02 AM

i would safely say 45 easily. maybe 50.

coolhandcountry 03.05.2006 07:57 AM

depends on the tire you run. If you have some big joe looking tire over like a crime fighter.

E-maxx-kid 03.05.2006 08:00 AM

I run bow ties on velocity dishes.

Today when i ran it i noticed brief periods of no power, pretty sure its down to the aa's i use though.

Thanks,

coolhandcountry 03.05.2006 08:23 AM

If you have the stock diff ratio. It would run about 42 mph if the tire is 140mm tall.

E-maxx-kid 03.05.2006 08:25 AM

Yer that sounds about right,

Heres some pics,

Sylvester 03.05.2006 08:35 AM

Very nice! You should take some time and clean up some of those wires!

Sylvester 03.05.2006 08:36 AM

**Where did you get your batteries** Thanks.

E-maxx-kid 03.05.2006 08:38 AM

Alex from boomboom batts, pretty decent batteries I must say :)

Sylvester 03.05.2006 08:39 AM

Custom pack eh? :)

E-maxx-kid 03.05.2006 08:40 AM

Yer, cant solder to save my life lol, is it ok to platt/braid the motor-esc wires?

HotnCold 03.05.2006 09:07 AM

Sure - looks kinda good when done correctly as well...

Dafni 03.05.2006 09:34 AM

What is this thing on the suspension arm?? :032:

Nice truck, but the wiring is indeed a bit of a mess. Sorry to say so, but with a bit of work it will look much cleaner!

E-maxx-kid 03.05.2006 09:37 AM

Yer just made it look more presentable, the thing on the suspension arm is the on/off switch easy to get to there.

Just took it out runs a dream, the rear wing is a great wheelie bar.

boss 302 03.05.2006 10:50 AM

if i was you i would move that switch.
Maybe put it on top of the reciever or something.

Sylvester 03.05.2006 12:27 PM

Yea the switch is one of the worst places, mount it somewhere where there is no moving parts!

E-maxx-kid 03.10.2006 12:58 PM

Anybetter?

nitrostarter 03.10.2006 01:16 PM

Looks like a totally different truck now.

Man, I run the 7XL on 16 IB3800's also from Boom Boom. I love it, its crazy fast. I run 16/51 though.
And on the metal touhing the battery thing, it happened to me, I messed up a cell. I sent it back to ALex and he's fixing it now for a small fee. Should have it back soon though.

E-maxx-kid 03.10.2006 01:27 PM

Hi nitro starter, how you know if you have messed up a cell it get warm/cold when u charge/disharge it?

boss 302 03.10.2006 03:31 PM

E-Maxx-kid - i know that when i lost a cell my truck started to cog when i hit the throttle and the cell got really hot when i was running my truck.

coolhandcountry 03.10.2006 05:21 PM

I lost a cell while running a truck. It was smoking hot. I pulled the body off and the batts. I grabbed my temp checker and it was 350f. I think it was toast.

that sounds about like what happened to mine just not quite that hot

E-maxx-kid 03.11.2006 02:20 AM

Well that sounds ok then, mine all seem just warm after a run :)

Thanks,

A gentleman posted a thread on a different board awhile ago, with a picture of his jacket pocket; he had stuck a sidexside pack in there, and forgot he had some loose change in the pocket too!
The sparks started a nice little smokin' blaze that burned a hole clear through both sides of his jacket/lining!

Pretty sure he started wrapping elec. tape around the ends of his sidexside packs after that. :002:

maxxdude1234 03.13.2006 01:47 PM

Sounds a bit nasty Cadtach!! Lucky he didn't burn his leg.

nitrostarter 03.13.2006 02:32 PM

My 3800's lasted only like 5 minutes max when I lost a cell. When I drove it back to me I could has a sizzling or release of air type noise. The pack was hot and I couldnt get it to charge after that. I knew something was wrong.

About a year ago I bought my first sets of "good" batteries from Alex at BoomBoomBatteries. When I go thtem, I was quite dissappointed that they werent "wrapped" like the batteries I was accustomed to getting from my LHS. I asked Alex about it, and I posted a question about it over on RCU, and I was roasted on the fire about the "added weight", overheating, "no respectable racer would be seen with wrapped batteries...", etc., (Kinda like saying "I dont want brushless.." on this forum!!!)

I had several issues with those batteries - one set exploded on the charger, one was wired backwards, and one set ended up melting the tamiya plug on my emaxx. I was a newbie and didnt know how to handle them "correctly", so I take partial responsibilty for it.

there is ont mistake the tamiya connectors suck. i never trusted them.

JThiessen 03.14.2006 06:06 PM

Thats why I'm converting all my "good" stuff to Deans. Still have a pile of cheap stockers that run on your basic 1500's that I'm leaving the Tamiya's on. Back on the thread topic...does the shrink wrap really affect battery temps? I wouldnt think it would amount to much, but then just putting a plastic grocery bag over my emaxx in snow was enough to considerably raise the tmeps, so stopping airflow does affect it somewhat.

E-maxx-kid 03.25.2006 03:33 PM

Finally blew a cell, shorted it before a run and then it started hissing etc, just hope it will get fixed :(
