Mutilator

I got myself an Ofna Mutilator rolling chassis. I know it's not the best truck, but I got it cheap, and it seems like a fun truck. From reading I've learnt that the only real weak point is the front king pin suspension setup, which can easily be upgraded to a c-hub suspension with the Mutilator pro front suspension. Also, as I've been browsing, it looks like the jammin x2 crt suspension could be used on the Mutilator. As I have to upgrade the front suspension anyway, I might aswell upgrade to the x2 crt suspension all around, giving me a little more width. The extra costs would be marginal.

I'll only use the Mutilator for bashing. So should I just replace the front suspension with the Mutilator Pro front setup of should I do the x2 crt suspension all round(of which I think it'll work, but I'm not sure)?

Why not find a CRT or CRT x2? You're already converting most of the truck anyway. CRTs are pretty stout trucks, so are the Mugens if you wanted to get one cheap.

Or you could run it as is and see how it does since you're just bashing.

I got the Mutilator cheap, and I like working on trucks. From what I've read the Mutilator is almost the same as the X1 CRT. That's why I got it. Also, I live in the Netherlands and there isn't an abundance of (cheap) truggy rollers for sale. And if I'd find one in the US, I'd have to pay about $60-$80 for shipping.

gtxracer 12.21.2009 06:21 PM

Ah, I see. Run it as is then!

drkdgglr 12.21.2009 06:30 PM

Well, I'll have to upgrade the front anyway as I've read the old kingpin suspensions setup breaks very easily.

Bondonutz 12.21.2009 07:18 PM

A friend of mine had a Mut a while ago that the KP were already upgraded and it was a tank. It'll be a great basher !

Nard Cox 12.22.2009 06:28 AM

I've seen the topic, was also questioning myself whether I should buy it or not, bet you got it REAL cheap since the seller wasn't asking for much anyway.

If I where you I would run it stock and when it breaks just upgrade to the x2 set-up.

drkdgglr 12.22.2009 10:42 AM

Yep, I just wish the seller would put it in the mail....
I already ordered the Mutilator Pro front c-hub suspension with x2 crt front aluminum knuckles. It was the cheapest option. If I like the truck, maybe I'll upgrade to the X2 crt suspension later on.

I ordered a cc-neu 1518 1y for this truck and plan on running it on 6s.

gtxracer 12.22.2009 03:07 PM

I want action pics and vids with that 1518 on 6s :mdr:

Nard Cox 12.23.2009 07:43 AM

That's going to be one sick ride :yipi:

drkdgglr 12.23.2009 09:17 AM

Hope it doesn't fall apart....
It's going to take a while before I have all the parts and time to (re)build the truck.

riverat1540 12.23.2009 08:57 PM

what size spur are u going to run, if it has the 62 like the crt x1 u wont have much room for a battery tray, i did the ring and pinion conversion o change the ratio so i could run 46-50 spur

drkdgglr 12.24.2009 03:10 AM

could you tell me more about the r&p conversion? I thought this wasn't possible for the mut because there isn't enough room for a larger ring gear.

I was thinking of making a custom chassis if the batt won't fit.

u need to convert to x2 diff gear front & rear then you can use a smaller spur. I am using a 50 spur slip diff, that y i need to convert.

i am running a x1 btw.

drkdgglr 12.24.2009 01:53 PM

But, will the x2 crt diffs fit in the mut's transmission case?

I also noticed that Mike offers the slipperential with a mod.8 58t spur. This gives me another option, though IŽd have to run mod.8 pinion&spur.

riverat1540 12.24.2009 04:15 PM

im not sure as i have a x1 and i used the hotbodies ring and pinions from the lightning stadium pro. had to do some shimming but they are solid diffs. i would assume the x2's would work but im not 100 percent. but the hotbodies are cheaper, at least they were when i was shopping and hot bodies parts are easier to find by me.

drkdgglr 01.01.2010 02:16 PM

I got the truck and have torn it completely apart. I've started with rebuilding the diffs. I have about 2-3mm space between the ring gear and the chassis, so not much room for a larger ring gear. I'm assuming truggy ring gears are larger than buggy ring gears?

drkdgglr 01.15.2010 04:02 PM

The truck has been completely rebuilt. Instead of changing all the diffs, I only changed the center diff with a ravager diff with 51t spur. To stay away from gearing too high I decided I could keeps rpm's low. I have 3 options:
- Neu 1521 1.5y @ 8s : 31080rpm
- Medusa 80m1100kv @8s : 32560 rpm
- CC-Neu 1518 @ 5s : 33300 rpm

I'm not quite sure which way to go yet....

R u racing or bashing? If racing 5-6s is more than enough. I m using neu 1515/3d on 6s 5000 zippy, 50 slip diff n 16 pinion which gv me 37mph.

8s will be too heavy, 6s 5000 is already heavy.

Btw my car is a x1 CRT with x2 gearing.

drkdgglr 01.16.2010 07:33 AM

Bashing only. Why would 8s be too heavy? I'll probably run 8s3000mah if I go for 8s. With the Neu 1521 on 8s and 13/51 gearing speedcalc's output without ballooning is 39mph.

superek4 01.16.2010 07:45 AM

Cost bro! U pay more for more Cells n C rating. The more Mah n cells the cooler the system will run. U also need slip diff if not your gears n cvd will wear out fast ESP with so many cells.

So your car is heavy, wear out faster n can't have long run time.

drkdgglr 01.16.2010 02:25 PM

The cost and weight are about the same!

With the 1521 1.5y I would buy two turnigy 4s3000mah40c packs
weight: 720gr
cost: $76.52

With the 1518 I would buy a single 5s5000mah40c pack:
weight: 704gr
cost: $76.82

superek4 01.16.2010 07:55 PM

This is insane! Wat esc are u using?

drkdgglr 01.17.2010 04:27 PM

an mgm 8s 140a esc or the LT10s120a

superek4 01.18.2010 01:26 AM

Good luck to ur insane truck:) the wear n tear rate will be very high ESP u hv so much power wo slip effect.
