Flux Motor Mounts
Anyone know of any 3rd party motor mounts for the Flux?
I was thinking of a something along the lines of the current Flux mount, but it'd be more clamshell in that it would be screwed down on both sides. This way it can support different diameter motors? |
Mike could fabricate you one, he's done some Tekin mounts.

Trouble with a universal mount is that even if the motor you want to use is 1mm larger in diameter the clamps will crush the motor as they dont match the motor. A normal clamp works by being the same diameter but having a gap inbetween the upper and lower halfs- as you apply pressure and tighten the clampthe tow halfs pull together around the motor, they dont bite into the sides like a smaller diameter clamp would.
Best solution would be to have a clamp with changeable inserts for various sized motors, or a mount more like a conventional motor mount that bolts down in the same places as the stock version, but the motor is front mounted via 2 or 4 screws, much like the revo motor mount for nitro conversions. |
Thanks for posting because I had all these same thoughts after I had originally posted.
You'd probably need an L mount that would attach to the engine plate in the Flux. Then you'd want to have a single lower bolt position and the upper bolt position being offset and in an arc, much like how most 1/10th scale 2WD setups are done, that would allow you to adjust the mesh. Then again it might just be easier to get an extended engine plate made, that you could drop a truggy mount/center diff onto. I measured the width of my RC8T's motor/center diff combination and it was just a little wider than the Savage TVPs, so it would overhang a bit. But think that might be ok as most of the Flux TVPs I have seen have large open spaces in that area of the chassis. Quote:

That's really nice.. where's that from?

I know a guy who knows a guy, so it's custom build.
He made more than just one. Just asked him for dimensions and price. I will update here as soon as I know more! |
I made it for a Dutch customer of Mike,
He requested Mike to make a mount for his Plettenberg/Flux; Shipping and customs would mean serious extra costs, so Mike forwarded him to me. If anyone in the US is interested, just shoot Mike an email. He can make both this, and the 'standard' type, for different size motors. (tekin) |
Ahh interesting!! Nice work, they called you a (and I quote) "CNC artist" !
So you have some SNS access at work or something? EDIT : I'm checking out your Picasa webalbum :drewl: |
LOL, I consider myself anything but.. seriously, this is pretty straight-forward.
To be honest, Mike got me enthusiastic/infected about the CNC milling, when I was over at his place during the holidays. I've converted a conventional machine to CNC. (which is nothing more than making motor-mounts and brackets and stuff as well, it's like converting nitro to BL.. ) which obviously isn't needed anymore nowadays.. :) |
Serum, you're alive! :mdr:
There are still plenty of nitros to convert to BL- cheaper to pickup a roller and convert it how you like vs buying an electric version ( which is often just a re-hashed nitro chassis anyway, with several $$$ added on for the privalige of using the manufacturer's own motor mount and battery tray(s). Plus there are all the mutant builds using bits of various trucks and making them electric/ BL too, and all the 1/5 scale builds converting petrol trucks to BL- we miss you around here dude! |

Anyway... I like the motor mount, it has got a nice design imo |
Nice I like it.. may have to do it if I don't like how this FLM one works out.

Neil! Heya!
Cool to see you're still around too! Alive indeed! |
feel the love
nice mount on there. that should sell a ton for the conversion lads |
Serum
Is that mount going to work with both the 2200kv Tork and then the Neu-Castles? Tried the FLM mount, will post some pics, but it raises the engine up too high and the pinion won't fit. Would have to cut the top bar off in order for it to work. |
ooooweee that is a sexy mount... is your mate still producing these??? There should be more aftermarket mounts for the flux
|
Very nice motor mount..
Here some more motor mounts on this German site.. http://shop.in-racing.de/index.php?p...tegorie&cat=29 |
knez, had a look at the site, and i really have to say that those motor mounts look pretty rubbish. Indeed they look kl but the method i think they use for strapping them to the mount is pretty unreliable... I dont think i would want to risk it, unless some one has had great experience with these... would you need one this large for a neu 1518?

Same diameter as the 1515 so I'd guess so.
I know it looks kinda crappy, but those jubile style clamps are very strong, you'd have trouble twisting the motor around once its clamped in place I reckon. |
i dont think i would feel comfortable knowing that just some jubilee clips are holding my motor in place
|
Never sad those clamps are state of the art, just wanted to let u all know that some more clamps are avalible on that German site.
|
i think these pictured below are probably the best on the site. But i am worried that the 42mm diameter of the 1518 is not going to be able to fit....

Translated with the help of google...
The engine mount is suitable for motors with a diameter of 36.0 to 36.5 mm and a length of 50 mm - 80 mm. (Eg Medusa Research MR3650, MR3660, MR3670, MR3680, Feigao S, L, XL, New 14xx, Mega EDF Fine Case and ACn/22/xx Mega, Kontronik Kira 600 Kira 650, Lehner 1930, 1940, 1950. ..) So no it won't work with a 42mm motor. |
Jahay, i agree they look like great mounts. They would be pretty much perfect for my current build if they were available in a 40/42mm combo for a Tekin T8 motor.
If anyone can make these please pm me, i'm happy to pay. |
Hello Savage owners, I just picked up a Flux roller. I was originally planning on doing the TCS Crawlers 5T conversion, but have decided not to now. The motor I have is the Castle/NEU 1520, am planning on running it on 6s. The problem I'm having is the stock motor mounts won't work with this motor plus the motor is too long to fit the cutout in the tvp.
What are my options for a motor mount? The FLM tranny forward kit looks great and that custom Plett mount is a work of art. Are there any other options? Thanks. |
FG... i have the same motor... I used my original motors by using a dremel to grind down just the right amount to fit them... If you dont want to do this... GCM http://www.gcmachine.ca/index.php/rcstuff/rbbuild can mill one out and sent it to you....
Regarding the tvps, you may have to do some mods to it yourself... But its not too hard. I had to take a section out of my TVPs to fit mine too... |
Jahay, je link you send is for the 1/10 E-Savage, not the Savage Flux.
FG101C, congrats on the buy. If you want it to be XL you can buy the FLM kit (which would need some cuts for the motor I think) or the Desertboy17 conversion (no idea if the 1520 fits there without mods). Ofcourse you can also buy normal Savage XL TVP's en customize that. |
i just included that link for GCM, you will have to email him and ask for the mounts as they are not listed on the site... I have the DB-17 conversion and you still need to mod the TVPs for this motor. Sorry for not being clearer

i found this on the guys fb page the other day
