Pics of hand w/LRP Vector 8 motor

Here are some pics and I'll post how it behaves after I assemble back together...freakin' Pita to do so.

cool hands

looks like a tiny motor for 1/8 scale, could you take a pic of it next to a 1515 or 1512?

FastXR 02.18.2010 09:12 PM

OOOHHHH Yah more hand porn...mmmmmmmmmmmm

OH and the motor is nice too.

BrianG 02.18.2010 09:25 PM

Is that a 3 slot stator??

snellemin 02.18.2010 09:32 PM

Here is a pic with the motor against a Pletty, C50 Hacker and a 1512 Tekno Neu. Yes that is a 3 slot stator, just like the little x12 brother and x11, x10, x9 cousins. The rotor is 13mm. Stock Timing insert is -5 degrees. Instruction manual states that the fan has to be used at all times. Go figure.

brushlessboy16 02.18.2010 11:26 PM

Rotor looks puny!

What's_nitro? 02.18.2010 11:50 PM

Has to be puny to be ROAR legal...

snellemin 02.19.2010 12:07 AM

I stuck the motor in my Rustler running 2s lipo. Running the MMpro in sensored mode only and 30 degrees timing boost. Pretty fun. Vid and datalog will follow tomorrow or so.

nitrostarter 02.19.2010 12:52 AM

Hmm, looks like it'll be ok for some light duty action. More power than a standard 540 can but less than an XL.

snellemin 02.19.2010 01:04 AM

Plenty of fun with 18 degrees boost. 30 degrees is a bit much and I don't see a difference in speed really. The below two pics shows the continuous amp draw at the different timing boost with the MMpro and 2s lipo.

so its spiking 94 amps in just a rustler?

can you post a graph of continious amp draw?

This is the graph of the 18 degrees timing.

I finally started running this motor in the CRT.5. On 4s1p A123(11.6V under cont. load), the supplied motor fan is needed for sure. Gets too hot for my comfort. The pro of the motor, is the "Build-in" dragbrake of the motor. For those that like dragbrakes for SC trucks, this is the motor. It's hooked up to Luciano's 200A ESC.

Great info, makes for interesting reading. So, ~380 L can motor being sold as a 1/8 scale item... naughty LRP, very naughty....

They will soon realize that Novak doesn't recommend the HV line of motors for 8th scale.

snellemin 04.06.2010 09:56 PM

It's a great 2s motor for sure. 3S for something lighter. The lehner xl3100 has more torque then this LRP. I am not able to flip the truck on its roof from a standstill with the LRP.

Kcaz25 04.06.2010 10:30 PM

I can't believe you have different size tires on a 4WD. Why? Normally thats a NO-NO. And does the CRT.5 Normally come with true dual stage springs in the rear? Thats fancy.

Motor sounds great for a slash or something.

Nice ESC!

You should have used the search button...

If so you would have seen the lack of a front center driveshaft or front cvds.

Oh, wait a minute...the search button would not have helped.

Ok, so this is the ONE time you should not have used the search button, let the records show that.

Back to looking at a really expensive motor for everyone running a slash on 2s lipo. They should rename it HV, and maybe sell an esc with no programming and no lipo cutoff. Then they could compete with novak when the past attacks the present in the future.

Let these pics speak for themselves Lincpunk. :na: LOL JK. Hurry up and finish one of your 10x10 wheel projects. :yipi:

But seriously the question remains OP why are you using different diameter tires?

snellemin 04.07.2010 12:04 AM

I'm bashing with in my yard with my son. Doesn't really matter if the tires are a bit off. I'm not going that fast. And if it does, it balloons enough for it to even out. He's running a Hyper 7 and always tries to chase me. Cat and mouse game, that looks hilarious.

I do not have any 10x10 trucks, that would be silly. Give the search button a try, who knows, you may like it.

lambchops 04.12.2010 11:09 AM

ive had three of these LRP vector motors in my mbx5 brushless and they last me about 30 mins!! Given up on them now and got a proper castle motor, they are not fit for 1/8th

snellemin 04.12.2010 11:29 AM

The motor has to balls for big vehicles. But it does work well in my crt.5 in an parkinglot roadcourse running with a 15T pinion. Crt.5 came alive with 20T pinion and temps where still normal....with the fan attached!

florianz 04.18.2010 06:27 PM

hi,

I've seen that motor in action last weekend, here in Hamburg/Germany. In the beginning, the motor got quite hot (about 80 deg. c), after that I've cut a big hole in the shell, and I think the fan on the motor didn't work first.

later the motor was - like that - around the 50 deg. C/122f (or a bit more), but not really dangerously hot.

the car was pretty fast. The motor has a small magnet, therefore it needs high rpm.

the new esc stayed cool all the time, pretty good for such a small esc.

there's a mod on the motor to keep it cool, put some thermal lube on the inner side of the motor like that:

it's in German, but you only have to look at the pics...

Anyone know the dimensions of the motor without the fins? The fins look pretty big and I wonder how big the motor is just of the can itself.

I saw quite a few of these at this weekend's Associated race at OCRC and didn't see any die, but I was only there for an hour. The buggies that ran them performed pretty well, but didn't seem to have the torque of the larger Neu-Castles and Tekins.

slimthelineman 04.26.2010 05:17 PM

same diameter as a 540 motor but with the fins its slightly bigger, just another shot at trying to get people to run a 550 motor in a 1/8 scale car. better suited to something a little lighter like a 4x4 slash or a heavyish 1/10 scale car.

snellemin 01.28.2011 02:01 PM

Little update on this motor.

I am still using it on 2S in my FLM Rustler + MMpro, and with the CHEAT enabled is a beast. Speed runs are fun with this motor.

But there is a new version in town. The 5.5 and 4.5T SC motors, which to me look like the same one I have with a higher kv and no fins. I'm going to get me one to play with and take nude shots(of the motor) for you guys.

I also have the choice of Tekin SC, Novak, Speed Passion, Trinity, etc to choose from, but I just like the look, finish and performance of the LRP's.

Dj_Sparky 01.28.2011 05:49 PM

They do look very nice.

I'm thinking of picking up an LRP for my 1/12 Ofna Mini Hyper El version. How do you like em, bashing-wise?

snellemin 01.28.2011 06:03 PM

I like my LRP's alot. But you have to use the sensor to take full advantage of the motor.

simplechamp 01.28.2011 07:32 PM

Can't wait until the weather clears and I can try the Vector 8 in my 1/8 GT. I know I shouldn't get my hopes up too much, but maybe with the low rollout and reasonable gearing it could be alright. Not too worried about it, because if it doesn't work out it just gives me an excuse to get a Viper 1/8 (here's hoping they are out soon!)

snellemin 01.28.2011 08:04 PM

It should do fine with a low rollout.

Through google I found the Viper 1/8 motor webpage. The rotor size is listed as 13.8mm.

simplechamp 01.28.2011 08:27 PM

Nice, looks like it will be completely user rebuildable like the 1/10 Vipers. Would be nice to have one motor and then be able to buy a different stator if you wanted higher/lower kv.

snellemin 01.30.2011 02:24 AM

Higher kv's would be nice too.

snellemin 01.31.2011 04:58 PM

Novak also has the 1/8 motors coming. 8 and 8L versions, 1.5y and 1y

suicideneil 02.01.2011 06:39 PM

Took 'em long enough to make a real 1/8 motor- no mention of kv ratings though..

I see they are also making a compatible 1/8 esc ( again, very late into the game ), but limited to 4s? Hmm...

snellemin 02.01.2011 06:42 PM

The 4s is the let down. I wonder if they will put gearing limits too.

fastbaja5b 02.01.2011 10:04 PM

I guess that explains why the SC8e has a Castle Combo, not the LRP Combo in there.

simplechamp 02.01.2011 11:02 PM

Yeah, I would guess lots of burned up motors and speedos, and too much complaints and warranty claims. They did have a RTR (or maybe they called it "combo" version) of the SC8e with the LRP system for awhile, but it only lasted a short time before they discontinued it.

80931-25 — SC8e/SPX8/Vector 8 2500Kv *Discontinued*
80931-28 — SC8e/SPX8/Vector 8 2800Kv *Discontinued*

That said, I am going to try out the Vector 8 motor in my on-road GT, but it's a different application (small wheels, low rollout) than 1/8 SC, and I know how to gear a vehicle properly. Even then I'm unsure if the results will be acceptable. So I can imagine someone throwing in 6S with the 2800kv in the SC8 with stock gearing would be in for some big problems.
