the 9920

I'm more than likely going to go with 14 cells with this, with a 9l or maybe 8xl. If i want to get something a little bigger later, which will probably be the case, and use more cells like 16-20? will this controller take it? Or would i need to go with something different?:032:

boss 302 03.21.2006 05:56 PM

that controller will be fine

coolhandcountry 03.21.2006 05:57 PM

It would really depend on what you planning on running. The 9920 runs on 20 cells pretty good. I run mine on 20 regularly. 14 cells I would go 10L over the 9L.

neweuser 03.22.2006 09:54 AM

Thanks guys!!! If i'm going with 16-20 cells, what motor would you recommend?

captain harlock 03.22.2006 10:20 AM

Any of the XLs will excel with a 16-20 cell setup.

neweuser 03.22.2006 11:01 AM

Is it the lower the number is how many turns and will go faster?
For example, 7xl will be faster than let's say 9xl?

nitrostarter 03.22.2006 02:14 PM

If you planned on using more cells late you, you might want to go on and get the XL now. It'll perform fine on 14 cells now and even better on the 16-20 cells u want to run later on.

The difference between the 7XL and 9XL is the number of RPM's the motor spins per volt. Technically speaking the 7XL spins faster and might be a faster motor, but the 9XL can take more cells and make more power which in turn you can use to gear higher and make more speed.

neweuser 03.22.2006 02:52 PM

thanks, that is exactly what i needed to know man!

coolhandcountry 03.22.2006 03:48 PM

A 7xl on 20 cells is going to be one hot motor.

neweuser 03.24.2006 05:26 PM

when u say hot, you mean temp wise right?

coolhandcountry 03.24.2006 06:13 PM

yep. it is going to get hot enough for you not to touch.

Serum 03.25.2006 01:44 AM

And the currentdraw will be skyhigh.

if your goal is to use a 14-20 cells, the 9 or 10XL would be my choice.

neweuser 03.29.2006 12:22 PM

Does anyone have a link for the XL's i can go to so i can check them out? Are there good "package" deals that maybe Mike would suggest?

Serum 03.30.2006 06:48 AM

on www.bk-electronics.com, just a few clicks away.

What is it you want to know?

Scott711 04.01.2006 12:49 PM

I'm currently experimenting with this setup 7XL/9920 combo with 16/51 gearing on 5S lipos. It's a bit to hot for my liking (150+ on speed controller and motor but batts are good 100-110). I'm going to hook up some cooling fans and see if that keeps things a little cooler. If not I'll drop down a couple teeth in gearing and see what happens.

The speed and torque with this setup is crazy fun though.;)

neweuser 04.13.2006 11:12 AM

Well, i have an HV maxx that runs hot. even with 12/72 gearing. So i'm looking into getting something that can take a good beating yet keep on going. The Hv seems to be temp sensitive. On fresh batts it stutters and spurs too. i have a new reciever coming in that is 75MHz hoping that will help the stuttering, but still want more speed. 9920/9L is what I was thinking, but will upgrade more later. Need to know the diff between 9L vs XL i guess in price and stuff.

neweuser 04.13.2006 11:20 AM

Ok I'm there. What does it mean when it says "basic XL 5000, 2400, etc"?

coolhandcountry 04.13.2006 11:26 AM

The 5000 is the kv of it. The xl 5000 turns 5000 rpm per volt. Same with the 2400 turns 2400 rpm per volt.

neweuser 04.13.2006 11:31 AM

So if i'm going to go with 14 cells and a 9920, with upgrading more cells later, which would be the best? Still the 10XL?

neweuser 04.13.2006 11:32 AM

Also, in the meantime, can you help me with the stuttering on my hv? After it runs a while it's fine, but with fresh batts is real bad...i bought a new radio and reciever on the way for FM 75MHz, will this cure my stuttering problem?
Thanks!

coolhandcountry 04.13.2006 11:48 AM

I had a problem like that on mine. It only did it on 14cells. I couldn't figure out why. It was like the voltage was to hi.

neweuser 04.13.2006 12:52 PM

That' s what I was thinking also. I'm in the process of getting things set up to air cool the motor with a fan, kinda like the set up with the esc. But not quit sure how to power that second fan.

neweuser 04.13.2006 03:40 PM

Let me know how that system runs for you. Lipos? How hard are they to take care of?
If i run the 9920/9L, what gearing should i go for?

neweuser 04.28.2006 01:46 PM

back to this thread. I just purchased 20 loose cells from mike. Is this too much weight on the emaxx? Also, just to confirm, will the controller handle it with the 10xl BK, or am i risking my system? Otherwise i could go 16-18?

coolhandcountry 04.28.2006 04:07 PM

The 9920 on 20 cells with a 10xl should be fine. It is some weight for the emaxx to tote. You have to get it set up for it.

neweuser 04.28.2006 07:07 PM

maybe i should run my 14's for now, resolder them, and get the one speed, and save for the gmaxx chasis carbon...lose 4 shocks(which i'm not sure how to set that up). The only prob is i heard the fast lane stuff does not work well with gmaxx, and i really wanted to use the hybrids.

coolhandcountry 04.28.2006 07:33 PM

The hybirds and gmaxx work well. I have two of them now. It is ue and flm that seem not to work well.

neweuser 04.28.2006 10:16 PM

So if i get he hybrids i should usewhat they call truggy 1/8 gears?

coolhandcountry 04.29.2006 07:27 AM

The truggy gears are really low geared. I use the buggy gears myself. It would depend on the setup you going for.

neweuser 04.29.2006 12:49 PM

Well, i like speed i guess. Maybe go for the ue 8 spyders and use their diff cups and stuff? But i heard they don't fit the fL bulks...is this true?

coolhandcountry 04.29.2006 04:12 PM

I have some in my flm hybirds.

neweuser 04.29.2006 05:35 PM

Did they go in nicely?

Serum 04.29.2006 05:50 PM

Nope, they do fit them perfect now. They did a small modification on the bulk.

neweuser 04.30.2006 03:01 AM

The issue fixed with them then?

Serum 04.30.2006 03:21 AM

That's what i just typed.. Yes, they do fit perfect now.

neweuser 04.30.2006 11:44 AM

Great!! 8 spyders and hybrids it will be!
