Backlight for Spektrum DX3S,R ????
I caught wind (not a fart) that someone or a company either sells or will install a backlight in your Spektrum TX, Anybody hear this ?
For the big brained fellows such as BrianG, What would it take to install a back light of some sort in these TX's , obvisously the Horizon Warentee will be voided. Any ideas ????:neutral: I did find a couple thread/posts on forums but I'd rather take instructions from someone whom I know and can trust http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/archi.../t-162753.html |
Are you sure it wasn't a fart? I've never heard of such a thing...
Though I would like to try it on my DX2 and a few chargers. |
i did it to two of my old Ice chargers. pretty easy stuff, if you take your time and are careful. a tiny bit of soldering was the most technical it got.
|
I think the critical thing is where to tapp into the existing stuff and what bulbs/LEDs would be best ???
Hopeing for more than a shot in the dark ? |
I did a pair of ice chargers and a pair of mrc chargers with kits I got off ebay. Not difficult but you need clean hands (no vaseline)...
I cannot remember the name but the guy was in barbados or something like that and the name was island something... |

A wealth of knowledge as always, Thank you Mr. Pimple |

I am glad you have such a clever nick name for me. I think I will stick to bondoscrot for you. I can imagine having freshly mixed bondo applied to the ole' skin chandeliers, would be quite "interesting"... Bondo gets hot as it dries... And unless you wax it would be painful to remove! |
James, dude, that, I believe, is the worst mental image I've ever got from a post on the interwebs... :whip: How do you keep it up? Do tell...
@Bondo: Back on topic, I think the best way to get backlighting on your transmitter is to upgrade it to a 3PK or 4PK  J/K |

Bondoscrot, on the other hand, likes to dabble in that sort of sick and twisted stuff. His partner in crime is of course Harold (spazticized)... I just hope they DO NOT have photo documentation of this kind of unacceptable and disgusting behavior. |

Yes, the chemical reaction of the mud solidifying does burn on sensitive areas fer sure ! Thats how I wax the ol' "coin purse" for a cleaner presentation ! |

Hmm, so many ideas and posts I can't keep up w/them all ?
I just thought a bright Red back light would be super cool, not to mention maybe useful and handy ? |
Would be cool for sure, but practicality might dictate otherwise. Might be cheaper to get a 3PK, just sayin' :intello:

Led's are becoming my latest obsession.
Here's an interesting tidbit for ya Bondo. I don't know much about the charger in question, but all you would need for this is some operating voltage in the proper range. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...ip-White_(1mtr) I have one of these in front of me. They are very bright. This strip comes to you a meter at a time. Within this meter, are 60 bright little boogers. Divided into groups of 3, they can be cut and used. Cut, Wire it up, then all you have to do is figure out where to stick it. LOL  It's only about 3mm thick. If your charger uses 12 volts as a power supply, wire it up to that. If your charger is getting power, then it's display is lit up. Crap! I just realized you're talking a transmitter? Right? LOL I'm not going to edit this. Now you can do your charger too if you wanna. |

Wounderful suggestion Sir ! Me and a buddy bought several different kinds of Plane/Heli LEDs from HC, when I get them I surely will look into cutting some up. I should be able to tap into the TX's Lipo (3s 800mah w/Castle Voltage regulator) for the juice I need. I am adventurous about doing stuff like this but a tick hesitant to mod my 250.00 TX even more ? The price to pay for uniqness I reckon ? |
Weirdos...
I looked up backlights for the dx6i- there are some good tutorials and very cheap kits out there, simple wiring too. Might have a dabble over easter when I have some holiday time.. |

As an aside, here's my little foray into LEDs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hv-25Ec4lbQ I put these on my dragsters for visibility when racing in the dark. |
Interesting thing you said that sike, I'm listening to a heli/plane podcast, and also remembered about my computer modding stuff I'm about to buy...
I could, theoretically, toss it in my case (computer case), surround the transparent window, and have the same effect as a cold cathode.. interesting.. And I was looking at my monitor, and noticed behind it (my wall) is quite bare... I could pick up some blue or red, and put it on my monitor facing the wall to have a nice glow effect.... Hmm |
|
Cool, Thanks Bro !

Should be very Cool :yipi: |
Thanks for the link to the mods...I am considering this as well

This is one of his red panels for the DX3S
http://i377.photobucket.com/albums/o...anel_red_1.jpg[/QUOTE] It'll be red when unit is off and when on it have a red LED shown through the red panel. |
I like where this thread is going, any tips for the metal thumb wheels while we're at it. I saw a few companies that make those as well for the Dx3r/s. The plastic is either getting old or the sensor is worn out. Metal would be nice.
Oh and how hard are those skins in terms of application? |
There's also this..
http://www.eastrc.org/shop.cgi/page=...70186556.16384 Works on DX3R, DX3S, and others.. |

The skins are easy to apply, caution and taking your time is very importatnt. These decals stick like a SOB so any mistakes made are a permanent F-up. They are extremely durable and the cool factor is through the roof with the hundreds of designs and colors availible. The only con is their expensive. Prep is also important, a good TX cleaning with Q-tips w/alcohol first would be highly recomended. |

|

I'm supposed to be on retirement!
Grrr |
Bro, that thing is SWEET!!! I'm late to the party... so I'll go back and read. But is it something a guy could do himself and save money? I'm fairly adept at soldering electronics.
Also... where did you get those skins for that radio? That is the radio I use... so I'd like to know. I'd also like to know more about running it off a lipo, so I'll check yer link. Thanks! |
