Lack of moderators?

There are trolls appearing left, right and center at the moment, yet there are no moderators online to deal with them ( effectively )?

Of the mods that we do have, only BrianG & Artic are online on a fairly regular basis- is it time to retire some of the inactive mods who cant participate in the forum like they once used to, and appoint some new ones to deal with the ever increasing population of forum members?

I think it is personally, and some heavy-handed moderation is definately required- no repeated warnings, just outright banning and deleting of duplicate threads to keep the forum tidy.

I've never been the subject of a personal attack before, especially one that targets my employment, even after getting into heated debates- its uncalled for and drags the forum down; we dont want this place turning into the trx forums for God's sake. :whip:

TexasSP 03.15.2010 08:04 PM

Agreed. The trolling is getting old. I like RCM because it stays pretty calm and clean naturally, but lately a lot of garbage is seeping through. This is in no way a slight or stab at the active moderators.

redshift 03.15.2010 08:17 PM

One big vote for Neil for mod-hood, right here.

lincpimp 03.15.2010 08:18 PM

I think Chris and Brian do a pretty good job. They let a fair amount of stuff slide, but will come down hard if necessary. I do agree that they could use a break. Maybe add a few more mods? Not sure who, as the vast majority of the over-active members are gits (including Neil) and I would not trust them with a sharp pencil. So maybe just leave well enough alone?

skellyo 03.15.2010 08:19 PM

Total agreement Neil. There are some folks on this forum here that need to join the band.

Modding_out 03.15.2010 08:40 PM

I haven't noticed any trolls....what do you guys mean? I hope I can't see them cause I am one:eyes:

suicideneil 03.15.2010 08:41 PM

I would rule with an iron fist, it is true, but Im very fair and usually just try to be helpful; its only idiots that dont contribute, or talk non-sense and start arguements that I would come down on in a heavy handed fashion.

I also would clean up duplicate threads and move stuff around abit, just to make the place look a bit more tidy ( old stickies that need de-cluttering etc ).

I'd vote for Linc as a mod, or several other long-standing members with a good record of good behaviour and helpfulness...

What's_nitro? 03.15.2010 08:44 PM

I seem to remember this subject coming up before... h/o I'll try and find the thread.

TexasSP 03.15.2010 08:45 PM

I will throw a few names out there:

Suicideneil, JThiessen, Lincpimp, and JERRY2KONE

I think all of those would be even handed and fair and take the appointment with a grain of salt as well.

I hope you don't mean if you got elected you would would wish to end the Lincpimp style of back and forth banter??? That what makes this forum fun it's not all up tight with rules and moderators, and were all adult enough on here to say cut it out if things get out of hand. At least that's what I thought......

suicideneil 03.15.2010 08:48 PM

Yeah, I was gonna dig it out but couldnt find it. Arct1k was appointed mod not all that long ago, and I do know that he & BrianG do a good job, but 2 active mods for ~8000 members isnt enough, too many sub-forums to deal with and tidy up, threads to move etc. Of the less active mods, I rarely see them actually moderating anymore- great guys, make no mistake, but life moves on, so they should probably hand over the reigns and go back to being normal members/ re-tired mod status or something- they have a similar deal over at BYT.com

Two years ago..... More authority figures have gone silent since then. Perhaps another poll?

I for one would love to have a reason for serum to come back. I really miss the guy.

He posts occasionally, and has a look in every now and then; basically, he liked the old days more when 'we' used to convert more things and make great projects. These days you can buy rtr BL vehciles that even a noob can manage to setup and operate, so its not quite the same, no more epic builds, conversions or cludging together of random parts into a functioning truck or 'uggy.

He was definately a great mod, scarey, but fair- like a headmaster sort of...

_paralyzed_ 03.15.2010 09:06 PM

the lack of nazi trx like moderators and the fact that Brian and Chris just moderate without throwing their egos around make RCM awesome.

I don't think we need more mods. I'll re-read the thread, but it just seems like a pissing match to me.

squeeforever 03.15.2010 09:07 PM

Ok first off, just cause you only see post from 2 moderators on a hourly basis, doesn't mean that we don't get on here. I get on here several times a day. Granted, Brian or Arct1k usually beat me to the reported post and such, it doesn't mean I don't know about them. The second somebody reports a post or whatnot, I get a e-mail about it, along with all the other mods. Ya'll need to realize that you don't see ALOT of the things that get deleted, edited, etc. I see the remains of it ALL and its alot more than you realize.

So if you wanna see some moderation, I'll give you 10 minutes to see this, then it'll be like it never existed. :mdr:

Modding_out 03.15.2010 09:09 PM

Hey squee, when did you get elected to mod status? I must have missed that one.......Have you been a mod for long?

Who the heck is this guy, never seen him before?...

I do apprecitate what you're saying, and the work you do, but, Im highly frustrated at the moment because of just one or two 'members' with an attitude problem.

I've been a mod for 4-5 years now....

As a matter of fact, Mike made me a mod at the same time as Leroy (coolhandcounty).

Neil, PM me about it. I think I know who your talking about.

suicideneil 03.15.2010 09:26 PM

PM sent. :)

Lets get back to normal business.

MetalMan 03.15.2010 09:32 PM

Ah yes, life does happen. Sometimes things just get in the way of RC car forum viewing time, like real car forum viewing , school, social, athletics, work, etc.

Rest assured that a lack of posting doesn't mean a lack of moderation

E-Revonut 03.15.2010 09:34 PM

I would not be against having an additional 1 or two carefully selected members appointed as moderators. I know why this subject has come up and I know I played right into it and that I shouldn't have.

Sorry, Neil, my prototyping budget has been low lately.

Bondonutz 03.15.2010 10:01 PM

If I may ?
I think BrianG,Sqee & Artic do a dam fine job, but they can't be everywhere 24/7.

If Neil was on the list for a additional mod position he'd be one of the guys I'd vote for.
The Ax will fall swiftly.

Can I vote to get rid of the diablo smilie, I seen that dam thing to many times today to want to see it again..

There really isn't voting for a mod. Mike selects them and thats that. I'm sure he would take it under consideration, but I don't really think its necessary to have any more. I think the problem is people don't PM a moderator to let them know something is going on. A few will report a post here and there, but thats it. Even then, the ones that get reported are only the penis enlargement post...

lincpimp 03.15.2010 10:10 PM

Not sure I would be great mod material, but thanks for the vote Neil! I doubt you would do a bad job, but your dry wit may get misunderstood from time to time. I get it, but not everyone is on our level (cough harold cough).

Plus i have been busy recently with the new house (need to get some pics on here) and am waiting on the damn hot summer to retreat in my a/c rc cave to build the beasts i have been dreaming up and gatering parts for.

I understand Bro, I kinda doubt another would be added anyway due to you gentlemen doing the fine job you do. I did say "IF".
Maybe we should all contribute a little more to help you gentlemen then ?

Yea, I can see adding another, but who would be difficult...
But yes, if ya'll could contribute a little more to help us would make things alot easier for everybody. Just PM a mod or report a post instead of chiming in and making it worse.

Yeah, sounds fair to me. Paintin' that beast of yours pink with eggplant pinstriping will really set it off. And a nice big mural on the hood of 2 dudes makin' out...

lol Come on now, I wouldn't want you to paint it to match your Lightning... I was just thinking more along the lines of a nice Eletron Blue, Imperial Blue Metallic, or the factory Navy Blue Metallic. :mdr:

JERRY2KONE 03.15.2010 10:42 PM

Suggestion

I have a suggestion that may help a bit. Why not have an icon placed somewhere for easy access that would open up a PM that would be sent to all the mods at once. Most of the guys in here do not know who the Mods are or how to contact them. This could help speed up response time when something comes up that needs imediate attention. Personally I to like the way things are run in here and have found that RCM & UE is a much more friendly atmosphere then some of the other sites. I tried a bunch when I first started into R/C four years ago, and just got tired of seeing all of the arguments. Not to mention the mods handing out punishments like police officers with quotas to fill, and doing it right in front of everyone else which caused even more problems. Banning someone for an occasional bad word is just rediculous, and just because some one does not see your point of view is no reason to get kicked off of a site either. Some just get caught up in the power status even though their intentions are well meant, and act like spoiled little bratts.

I think what Neil is suggesting is a good idea, but maybe if there was just one more Professional IT type person in here monitoring things and cleaning up the technical side of things that would help ease the pain just a bit. The Mods are doing a great job from what I have seen, and please keep up the good work Gents.

JERRY2KONE 03.15.2010 10:48 PM

No way

How about a dude in a dress(like Harold) maybe. That gave me a laugh James. The humor in here is why I am in here every day. Neil your off humor and brash responses tend to be a bit confusing some days and people just don't understand you. I have lived in enough countries over the years to see where it comes from. So I get it. Most of you guys are just plain hilarious once you get spun up and enter into one of these threads. It is like going to see my very own comedy show every single day. Keep it up. Doctor recommended = Laughter is one of the best forms of exercise and it is good for the heart.

Very true, we would not want to paint a chevy up to match a ford. That would be wrong, seeing that the paint would be try to go faster than the car... All wrong...

I like the blue idea, my fave color. I am not fond of the black lightning so it may be time for it to go to a new home... I will be looking for a lightly used viper in the coming months... Time for a new toy.

magman 03.15.2010 11:01 PM

I know that I am peasant here, but, being around for 2+yrs., this site and most of the members here keep me coming back for more abuse and to also lighten my wallet.

IMO the mods do a great job in policing these forums....just my .01$ worth

E-Revonut 03.15.2010 11:01 PM

business must be doing pretty good if you would ever consider getting a viper! I wish I had the funds to take that lightening off your hands! It is one of my dream vehicles! I'm not really a car person, although I do like Mustangs, but I would take a lightening over just about any car any day.

Business is okay, i like to recycle my money to fund my toys. Sell off some stuff to pay for the new wants and desires. If you guys only knew what I have spent in the last 6 months on gun stuff, it makes me sick sometimes but most of it is already going up in value.

My axiom, buy low and sell high. I don't buy expensive clothes, and try to keep my living expenses down too. I have side jobs that will pay for alot of my toys. I work alot, but I have a good time mostly. I won't say I love my job but i like the fringe benefits. I don;t take it easy, and I am busy when the sun is out, and try to sleep sometimes.

The viper is what it is, about as close to a shelby cobra replica without having to build it myself (I would nver buy a replica that someone else built, yuk). I bit rough around the edges, but that is its charm to me. I just want something a bit over the top, and it is more sensible to have the wife with me than on my bike. I should be able to score what I want for 25k or so... Maybe less if I can score a good deal. Should get 16+ out of the lightning, so I am getting there. The bike will cover another 6k or so, and I have some pocket money laying around. Plus I have more rc to sell, just need to organize it (shudders).

The wife has me busy organizing the new house, 100 pictures to hang, shelves to move, wire the tvs and hang them, wire the surround sound, etc... Never enough!
