8s packs :yipi:

Higher C rate is more desirable but it's a start !

nitrostarter 03.22.2010 08:58 AM

Darn, my Hyperion 720 will on charge 7s packs...

Glad to see improvements tho!

gixxer 03.22.2010 09:37 AM

I would like to see them have higher mah packs. 8k would be nice for my 2s 10th scale setups.

Considering most 8000+ mah packs are actually 2 packs just paralleled and packaged together. It's actually not a good idea and is problem since you are balance the 2 cells paralleled together as 1 single cells.

Now if they develop a 8000mah single cell, then sure!

ClodMaxx 03.22.2010 10:02 AM

i just noticed this - not sure if it's new or not, but wow is this a must-have!

That battery monitor is sweet.

Definitely. Would be great for early detection of problems. You could see a particular cell was starting to behave erratically and bring the vehicle in before anything worse happened.

reno911 03.22.2010 03:53 PM

I get a kick out of some of the user reviews for this one.

the other bonus is it has an audible alarm right there on the radio when the cells hit the 3v/cell cutoff, so you know when to bring it in. no need to watch/listen for the lvc in the car/truck/heli/whatever and miss not hearing it (if you don't immediately notice a performance drop). plus it's only $60. i love eagletree, but their system like this is almost 10 times that.

shaunjohnson 03.22.2010 04:48 PM

you mean to tell me that i just ordered 4x 4s 5ah 25C lipo's and i could have got a couple of 8s packs?

Bondonutz 03.22.2010 05:27 PM

Just orderd 5 monitor dealie-o'sfor the Hobby Shop I work for and one formyself

Anybody see the 30C 5Kmah Hard packs for $39.99 ???

Krawlin 03.22.2010 06:41 PM

Do they have the battery monitor for a 2 pack setup? That would be awesome on my Monster GT. I wonder it it provides real time readings too, so if you nail the throttle, you can see your voltage drop?

EDIT: Never mind, just read that it does provide real time readings. That is awesome. I need one of these but I need one for dual packs....

Seems like a very useful tool though, especially for people who race 1/8 electrics with a single pack.

All it does is plug into the balance port of the lipo. If you have multiple packs, just get a converter plug that takes you 2- 2s lipos and makes 1 4s lipo plug. Its quite simple to make as well.

I have 4 of those 4S packs on the way. I'll have to snap some pics and give some feedback on here when they come in.

I grabbed 2 myself, now I guess I can sell a couple older packs ?

big greg 03.22.2010 07:00 PM

careful with those hardcases, i just got one today and the cells are bouncing around inside, im debating taking it apart or not

I run two 3S Lipos actually, but same concept. I wasn't sure if I could do that with the balance taps though, but I guess I can. I have a couple 3S connectors from my Equinox balancer, could I just splice one of them to the other and put the correct end connector on?

There might be info on BrianG's page to help configure that ?

I'd probably pop the case apart and re-secure the cell stack inside.

big greg 03.22.2010 07:46 PM

yea i will, they just need a little bit of foam, sucks the cases wont look pretty after im done, the glue is pretty solid

simplechamp 03.22.2010 09:47 PM

I thought about trying some of those 4S hardcase myself. Others who bought those report back when you get them to see if you have the same issue as big greg with the loose cells.

big greg maybe send an email to HC so they know what's going on. They might offer warranty, or at least fix the packs in the future.

big greg 03.22.2010 09:51 PM

yea im not sending it back thats for sure lol, but i will shoot em an email

reno911 03.22.2010 10:00 PM

I like the looks of those 4s hardcase packs.

nitrostarter 03.22.2010 10:29 PM

I dont get the excitement about the hardcase. I know its for ROAR racing but i personally rather strapping my cells down knowing the cells are secure. My tray and placement keeps it from harm.

I'm with you 110%, but at the price and to have the plastic layer of extra safety (even if a mod is nessasary) for puntures and flying debris from hard bashing. Hell yeah I'll buy a a couple :yipi:

wow they didn't have those 2 weeks ago when I ordered 4s 5800 soft packs. now it they just get higher then 4500mah.

big greg 03.23.2010 01:07 AM

i popped the case apart, all it took was two thin layers of foam, glued it back together and its all good, now to test em out

gixxer 03.23.2010 01:26 AM

well I desided I have to try them. So I just ordered 2 of the hardcase 4s packs. If I deside to stay with 4s then I will just have to sell my 6s neu and tekin 1400kv motor.

I lost two packs do to stuff getting inside the shrink wrap and creating a small puncture in a cell. Managed to salvage one pack into a 3s but the other pack went bye bye. With my hard packs I can plastidip, hotglue, superglue, whatever the little gap that the wires come out through and feel a bit secure about the individual cells.

I have had a softshell pack go flying from my e-revo on an extreme cartwheel landing thingy and it was gone. I have seen my friends zippy 5k hardshell fly 20 plus feet into the air out of his Savage Flux battery tray and take a pretty hard thud. He had me take it apart to check on it.I took it apart took a glance, and then superglued it back together. Pretty tough little suckers.

The added security doesn't bother me.

gixxer 03.23.2010 01:51 AM

I am all for the hardcase pack as long as I am not paying a ridiculous price just to add the case. I haven't had any packs go due to being punctured but I dont mine the added security. Hate that my neu pack has marks in it from running in my 8th scale offroad.

$200+ for most of the 4s hardcase packs I cant justify. 2 of these for $101 shipped sounds good to me. Look forward to trying them out.
