Hyperion G3 45/90C packs finally to market!

http://www.aircraft-world.com/shopexd.asp?id=7464

A 3300mah 4s pack is $100

Their data sheet shows 4200, and 5000mah packs coming, but they are not available at the moment.

I know what packs I'm buying this year again.

Semi Pro 04.24.2010 05:46 PM

sweet

simplechamp 04.24.2010 05:49 PM

Two of those 3300mah 4s in parallel sounds pretty tempting to put in my truggy, might have to give them a shot.

nitrostarter 04.24.2010 08:21 PM

Hmm! nice!!!

Everyone keep a look out for availability!!

nativepaul 04.25.2010 06:00 AM

Thats awesome with just 1 caveat, I want bigger wires. The 4s 45c 3300mAh sounds perfect for my carbon fibre rallygame buggy reducing the weight by near 200g from the 4s 30c 5000mAh I run at the moment, but theres not a chance that I'm going to run a pack with 12gauge wires when my ESC has 10 gauge fitted, and likewise 40-90c sounds fantastic for my boats both for ovals and SAWs but they only have 10gauge wire and my boat ESCs have either 8guage or twin 10gauge, my Zippy Flightmax 30-40c packs have only 10gauge too and their wires are the hottest part of the system, there's no way 10gauge will take half as much continuous power again and as for bursts 10gauge is just a joke for carrying 450Amps.

ClodMaxx 04.25.2010 09:51 AM

this is fantastic - from what i've seen, thunder power is the only other company so far with 45c lipos. i have 4 hyperion 6s 35c lipos for my trex 600e, and they're absolutely amazing. as my lipos for everything poop out, i'll be replacing them all with hyperion.

itbvolks 04.25.2010 11:40 AM

I guess I don't totally understand the need? If your not tapping out the 35c's (227A cont), where do these fit in?

I haven't /don't hear of too many complaints about the existing hyperions with regards to heat or discharge rate.....????

While I'm all for updates in technology, I have a hard time with it in excess....

My. 01c.

Personally for me, Iam a basher not a racer so I can run a smaller lighter battery back in my cars and have a better performing and handling car at the expence of run time with higher "C" rated batteries, and for my boats I have a bunch of 240A controllers it would be nice to be able to pull 200A from the batteries although these will need a wire change to do so, also with a 450A burst rating I can run 2 motors and ESCs from 1 pack for a few seconds and hopefully get myself a record.

For car racers that need a 15 minute run time, the "actual C rating" doesnt matter, as a 15 minute run is only 4C average and even the first generation of LiPos would manage that, however there are 20C spikes that 4C batteries couldnt deal with and it wasnt till the 10C cells came out that LiPos were man enough for the task so you might say why not stick with 10C batteries and save a bunch of cash? The answer is that with every increase in "C" rating comes an increase in voltage under load which becomes even more apparent when used at less than its max "C" rating, a 10C pack would drop to about 2.8V under those spikes and only recover to about 3.2V between the spikes, wheras 45C cells will hold about 3.7v in the spikes and recover to full battery voltage in bewtween, a difference of 3.6v on a 4 cell pack which with a 100A peak is an extra 360Watts, or a whole 10th scale touring car more power than you had with 10C batteries. If 45c give a just couple of tenths of a volt under load more than 35C cells that is still 80Watts more power. As well as the power advantages the further under its rating you use a battery the cooler it will run and longer it will stay in good condition for, also I normally see an increase to my run time as well as extra power when I upgrade my cells for the same mAh rating which points to an increse in chemical efficiency.

zeropointbug 04.25.2010 05:06 PM

That's exactly right Paul, every little bit of voltage makes a big difference in power, and to some, (me included) SYSTEM EFFICIENCY. The higher the voltage stays under load, the less power is wasted, and the more energy you have available to make a longer race, important for those longer 30 - 40 min mains where you want to size the pack just right... you want to only switch packs once in a race, so you want the smallest possible pack.

You may not EVER come near the 45C rate, but that's just the way they are rated.

You can use a pack like the 25C CX G3 lipo packs that have higher mah/g, but the voltage drops more, so that benefit is reduced, and IMO, I would rather have all the power you need, and have almost the same overall energy density. Plus, the lower rated packs, the higher rate you discharge them, the more mah capacity they lose, more so than packs like a 45C rated.

ThunderPower has 50C/100C packs if anyone didn't know too, but they are too expensive to make the difference worth it.

Blown Up 04.25.2010 11:21 PM

I guess it does pay to ask the "stupid" ? Thanks guys for laying it out like that, makes alot more sense now.

nitrostarter 05.14.2010 10:16 AM

Just a heads up. The 45C packs are in stores and should be shipping.

TexasSP 05.14.2010 10:28 AM

Guess I missed this the first time around. Exciting news and the prices are awesome! Still hard to believe with these around others can get what they charge for their inferior packs.

Exactly. Especially when I can get 2 of these Hyperions for the price of 1 Maxamps...

This name just pops up in a lot of threads for no reason like a bad weed you can't get rid of.

JThiessen 05.14.2010 11:18 AM

I just went and checked Neu's site, and they have the SP2 rated at 46/92, and the SP's rated at 40/80. Funny though, the SP2's are cheaper than the SP's. The best buys they have are on the XP's. It does appear that Lipo pricing is noticably coming down.

nativepaul 05.14.2010 11:22 AM

Well of course Hyperions are half the price of Maxamps these are 45C but Maxamps are 60C:lol:

Thats cause they are so easily made fun of with their ridiculous pricing and marketing scheme. As seen below...

I forgot about them being 60C lipos... Maybe Hyperion should advertise at 90C rates That should boost sales. O wait, they already sell good since they are priced right for the quality delivered! Shocking!:gasp:

zeropointbug 05.15.2010 11:47 AM

Oh goody goody. I'm thinking I am gonna get 2 3s 4200mah packs for the season. I am wondering if it's better to get a 6s pack and split it so you have a perfectly matched pack?

suicideneil 05.15.2010 01:30 PM

Interesting thought. Depends how the cells are connected together, might be hard to seperate them if they are joined via their tabs or glued together well.

zeropointbug 05.17.2010 11:04 AM

That's true, if it's anything like their last gen Enerland packs, it will be a handful. They use some kind of cold solder high pressure crimping technique that looks pretty tricky to get apart, if not impossible. I have 3 6s 4300 enerland based packs to split to 3s packs.

suicideneil 05.18.2010 06:42 PM

Bon chance, I suppose...

zeropointbug 05.18.2010 08:20 PM

Once my battery supplies arrive I will start dissecting them. (balance leads, shrink, etc)

BTW, If anyone has bought a 45C pack yet, LET US KNOW HOW THEY PERFORM!

plettenbergs 05.18.2010 09:57 PM

i just ordered several ....HYPERION G3 VX 3300 MAH 5S 18.5V 35C/65C LIPOLY PACK...i will run 5s2p on my BL monster trucks and they will also be perfect for my new Maxxler prototype!!...Cant wait to get them in the mail:whistle:

i also ordered 2 hump packs and 2 batts for my EX-10 radio....GOOD TIMES!

nitrostarter 05.18.2010 10:38 PM

The 35C packs are amazing! I can only imagine the 45C...

zeropointbug 05.19.2010 12:19 AM

I meant the 45C packs plettenbergs.:mdr: Why wouldn't you get the EX 45C packs I am wondering? Only ~10% higher cost over 35C.

I ran a single 6s 4200 35C pack all racing/bashing season last year, still performs 100%.

Erevocanuck 05.19.2010 04:21 AM

Someone said the Hyperion is only making packs in the 5000 mah range. They said it`s due to restriction of shipping packs over that size.
It was in a post on the Traxxas board

wallot 05.19.2010 07:40 AM

I have 45C 5S 4200mah hyperion pack on the way. Will let you know how it compares against 35C pack (though only 3300mah)

zeropointbug 05.19.2010 11:08 AM

No way! Tell me how that makes any sense? Seriously, we all know a 6s 3000mah is just a hazardous as a 3s 6000mah... is that what they are saying? This is beyond retarded if I understand what's going on. I am lucky I run a 6s setup, only need max 4000mah, otherwise I would be running 6000+ with a 4s pack. So what brands does this apply to? Where are these rules coming from?

Wallot, good to hear, and do let us know. Do a cell check before you use it, and do a couple soft cycles on your charger before you use them, and then go easy on them for the first 10 cycles at least in your R/C. Should get some serious power out of them after that.

Arct1k 05.19.2010 12:02 PM

There are restrictions on the amount of lithium that can be in a battery - This s approximated into Whr on a pack so a function of capacity and voltage - hence 6s 3k and 3s 6k would be the same w/hr...

zeropointbug 05.19.2010 12:06 PM

Yeah, still how does that make any sense if they limit Ah? They sell a 12s 4500mah pack, does that make it less hazardous? Is there both an Ah and Wh limit?

bigsteel 05.19.2010 12:46 PM

Is it a matter of safety? Not that I support those rules but for example I've seen a 6s 4500mah fire And it wasn't small,I could only imagine what a 12s 9000mah lipo could do if not handled properly.--Josh

Erevocanuck 05.19.2010 03:28 PM

Here`s another link that my be interesting.I wonder how this effects Canada

news article

zeropointbug 05.19.2010 03:41 PM

Looks like this article says Wh limit, but then, why, is Hyperion stopping shipment of 5Ah+ packs? It says 3.7Wh, that's a 1Ah single cell Lipo, obviously alot smaller than 5Ah.

It would be nice to clear this up exactly what's going on.

Anyways, does this mean HAZMAT fee or soemthing? If so, this is such double speak, nothing more than a money grab...

wallot 05.25.2010 12:40 PM

batteries arrived today. they have 10awg wires. will test them coming weekend .
