Hyper 10sc brushless motor dilemma...

Ok...quick question to all you hyper 10sc owners and/or brushless experts....I want a setup that runs cool and will give me the longest runtimes...I've already decided to get the mmp...all I need to get is the motor...I have a bunch of these 2s 30C 5200mah lipos and I can't decide Which motor to run...either the HV novak 4.5 (5000kv) or the HV novak 5.5 (3700kv...I think)....I know low kv high voltage is the best but I really want to stay running 2s lipos....will the 4.5 be too hot? If I get the 5.5, will I be able to gear it up without overworking the lipos?....really only shooting for 35-40mph but Id rather pick torque over top end speed...why do you guys think?

The Novak 4.5HV and MMP is currently the best combo IMO. I run this in my slash 4x4 and temps are never over 130F

I believe the 5000 kv rating is unloaded so its probably closer to high 3000 or lower 4000 kv. Either way, its been perfect on 2s for me.

Also, the speed passion 550 motors work great and Novak has the 550 ballistic motors comming out soon

E-Revonut 04.26.2010 03:35 PM

4.5 should do well, stayed ice cold when I ran one on my CRT.5

hootie7159 04.26.2010 03:41 PM

what motor is the $.5???...jk :) ..thanks for the help guys...to save money i'm gonna get the hyper 10sc roller/4.5 novak HV combo over at nitrohouse.....its only $399 .....and right now i have $415 in my paypal....and i want to get up and running asap...i'll eventually get the mmp prob next month but for now i'll see how the hv havok pro does....

Will a CC/Neu 2650 fit in these trucks

jhautz 05.10.2010 07:57 PM

Novak HV 4.5 runs great for me. Also have a buddy that runs the HV5.5 and it runs great as well. Either one will work no issues on 2s.

Blunten 05.10.2010 10:08 PM

The CC/Neu 2650 will fit. I'm running mine with a 1512 1D finned and it will clear the rear chassis brace with a 17t pinion but I need to shave some of the rear chassis brace with a 15t pinion.

Has anyone checked out the new Orion combos coming out?

http://www.teamorion.com/orion/produ...45_catalog.pdf

phatmonk 05.11.2010 04:02 PM

Cool thanks Blunten

snellemin 05.11.2010 04:28 PM

I saw Blunten setup. Whatever fits in the crt.5, will fit in yours. Heck, a 1515 will fit. A Hacker Cmaxx motor will also work great in it. My buddy runs one in his with a 1/10 Tekin esc. 90 Dollar motor on fleabay.

Motor has a good kv range. I would still use a mmpro with that motor though.

phatmonk 05.11.2010 05:01 PM

Wil a 3s lipo fit the 10sc baterry tray?

Blunten 05.11.2010 10:37 PM

3s lipo will fit if you cut one of the side out.

To get your 2650 to fit did you have to buy the different motor mount or buy the elite motor mount?

Blunten 05.13.2010 08:40 PM

The 2650 should fit with the stock motor mount.

lucias 05.14.2010 12:11 AM

Thanks picked up a used RX8 2650 combo today.. Fits snug, need to gear it up a little..

Bought the RX8 a 2650 and 1900 2 3s 4000 lipos a and a DXe for 325.. thought it was to good of a deal to pass up, everything was less than a month old..

lucias 05.14.2010 02:03 AM

When using the speed calculator what size of tire do you put in for a short course truck?

Blunten 05.14.2010 11:30 PM

stock tires are 4 3/8"

sabongi 05.15.2010 04:03 PM

isn't the mm pro designed for 1/10?
As far as i know the hyper 10sc is a 1/8 buggy with a sc body, isn't it?

It's not based on a 1/8 buggy. It's actually based off a 1/12 Hyper mini ste, just stretched the chassis a little and added SC bumpers and body

We are now shipping our completely rebuildable Ballistic 550 motors; and we have announced our Havoc Pro SC/Ballistic 4.5 Short Course systems.

hootie7159 05.17.2010 11:08 AM

Bad a$$! Why cant other companies offer the different stators in their motors? For people that run at different tracks or people who race and bash could benefit greatly (from a monetary POV) by being able to just own several different stators instead of several different motors.....is their a weakness to having these motors be rebuildable like this?

We design and manufacture our brushless motors here in Irvine; we don't have to wait for motors from China.

We always have all of the components, replacement parts and accessories, to enable us to offer complex programs----such as rebuildable motors. This also allows us to support a fast turn-around time for service and offer a comprehensive Trade In program with a Lifetime Legacy Option. You can even design your own Ballistic motor with our Build-A-Ballistic™ programs; we will be adding a B-A-B 550 option soon.

Our controllers are also specifically designed to encourage customers to make simple repairs themselves----plugs, switch harnesses, TransCap modules, power wires. All service items are always available in our store. We have introduced new Short Course Systems with Traxxas-compatible battery and motor wires (2WD) to offer Plug 'N Race ease to Slash customers---both 2WD and 4x4s.

Most companies do pretty poorly in after market customer support because it's not a high priority to them. Also, designing and maintaining these complex options is a LOT of work.....

I run a Medusa 36-50-3300 on 2s Lifepo4 geared 18/52 and am yet to see motor temp over 95f. Using a Venom 120A Esc on 15 degree timing. With a 4600mah pack I get 20-30 minutes run time.

How many amps does the Novak 4.5 hv 550 motor pull?

Dunno what the max amp draw is but off-road (geared 13:54 in a Slash 4X4) I get 13-14 minutes out of a Turnigy 4500 LiFe pack before I begin to notice it slowing down. If I'm draining it completely in that time that's a little under 21 amps average. With LiPo having a higher voltage, the average might go up.

I gave up on the 4.5 and went with a MMP and Tekno Neu 1512 2d on 4s.The 4.5 glitched and hesitated like crazy with my CC MMP.
