Proline BadLands strechted Rulux Half Ups

Hi guys,

How to glue my Badlands stretched on my Rulux Half Ups:

This:

or this:
http://rcthings.co.uk/wp-content/upl...x-half-ups.jpg

What do you guys think / run?

Fast response would be great since I would like to run these puppies tomorrow.

Thanks!!

EDIT: And what about my foams :

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_oXx8nzDDQME/S9...2/P1050569.JPG

Is the right on still usable?

EDIT: On the Traxxas forums (yeah I know....) they prefer the inside method : click

bdebde 05.01.2010 03:26 PM

I would put them in the bead. As far as the foams, give a try with a hair dryer/ heat gun on low to expand that foam, careful not to melt them. If it comes back, run it, otherwise I would replace them.

Nard Cox 05.01.2010 03:28 PM

They have been lying around for about 4 days now. They are completely dry.

EDIT: I read that it's also a way to reshape the foams back. Going to try that now, thanks for the tip!

Arct1k 05.01.2010 04:48 PM

Washing and then drying them normally gets them to fluff back up

Semi Pro 05.01.2010 05:05 PM

if they dont fluff back up then dont use them, glue them on the bead

Nard Cox 05.01.2010 05:20 PM

@ Arct1k, I've cleaned them with water (incredible how much sand was in there). When I wanted to pull the wheels of the rim (after boiling) the two with the strange foams seemed like they were sucked vacuum. Should I wash them with any ''special'' stuff?

@ Semi Pro, so the normal way.

I mounted mine on the inside like picture two. Slightly narrower and performed well.

mistercrash 05.01.2010 11:43 PM

These two drawings were made by me. I made them from my own experience with Badlands on Rulux half ups. If you mount them on the usual outside bead, your side walls will be squished and look very weird because the whole tire has to be stretched. If you mount them on the inside bead like in pic #2. part of that side wall will be inside the rim and basically you will end up with a low profile Badland. Like the Proline LPR tires and rims.
The drawing is not representative of what really happens when you use the inside bead. The side wal will rest firmly on the outer edge of the rim and you can run a second bead of CA all around to seal that joint which will make your side wall firm and will make the truck handle very well and very stable.
The only downside of this tire/rim combination is mounting them. Those tires have to be stretched to fit on that inside bead and your fingers will hurt once your done.
I loved this set up so much that I ran these Badlands exclusively while bashing until there were no more treads on them.

Freshly mounted Badlands on Rulux half Ups using the inside bead.

A couple months later. I loved this combo. Gotta get me another one soon.

Here's a pic of Badlands mounted on LPR rims (or half ups) on the regular bead on the left and inside bead on the right. The regular bead looks weird and bulging. The pic is from someone else.

When will Proline make a set of basher type tires in LPR size? Everyone seems to lve the badlands but mounting them to LPR rims is a PITA.

Can this mounting method work with Proline VELOCITY dish wheels? I love Badlands, but i just hate that the side walls offer no real support.

Nard Cox 05.02.2010 05:26 AM

@ reno911, I'm also leaning towards that.

@ mistercrash, it's final. Inside bead with a layer of glue on the outside. I've already mounted two of them on the innerbead. I think it wasn't so hard to mount when. Ok more difficult than a normal one, but it's do-able (I did brake a finger nail though ). I also love my Badlands, they look badd-ass and offer tons of grip offroad.

@ ANGRY-ALIEN, I don't see why not. The beads are exactly the same.

The proline wheels are the correct size for the badlands, but I would assume you would be able to glue them on the very inside of the first bead.

As for sidewall support, I relied on my revos suspension to cure that ailment. With proper suspension setup I don't think having stiffer side walls will be noticeable. Besides the tires may be a part of the suspension. In my eyes they are just there to make traction, the suspension is supposed to do all of the work to insure that the tires have traction. For those who know, the badlands get some awesome traction, pretty good on asphalt as well.

Nard Cox 05.02.2010 12:56 PM

My bad, if they are 3.2'' I would glue them like they are meant to be glued.

hmmm... so what you are is, proline wheels might not work as well as the Rulux wheels did?

reno911 05.02.2010 01:24 PM

They should both work fine. I think what happened is someone just thought it would be cool to get these tires to fit on a relux low profile racing wheel one day and everyone took to the fad. The thing is it really doesn't matter what wheel you put these on the work great. Badlands are popular because they work, regardless of what wheel they are mounted to. The relux thing is a matter of visual aesthetics in my eyes. My first set of badlands I ran on maxamizer beadlocks and had zero issues in terms of the tire or wheel. My second set I decided to see what all the jazz was about and tried the relux. They worked just as well, and with mounting them on the inside it almost appears to be a narrower badland, like that of a lpr tire. Would they work any better than the badland on a correctly sized proline wheel, I doubt it. Will they appear slightly cooler, yes.

ANGRY-ALIEN 05.02.2010 01:53 PM

Well, when I get my new set, I will post my findings and photos....

another exemple of monting position and what I've try to prevent the foam from splitting.
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/i...DSCF0004-1.jpg

Left one is mount on the inside lip Right side is mount normal (temporary)

Nard Cox 05.03.2010 08:18 AM

Yeah, I believe I've seen those pics on the Traxxas forum as well :)

I like the inside look more.

ANGRY-ALIEN 05.03.2010 10:20 AM

Yep ... that looks much nicer than the original mounting position.

gtxracer 05.03.2010 03:23 PM

Cut badlands on LPRs....I did this set over 2 years ago IIRC

Nard Cox 05.03.2010 03:26 PM

Did you actually cut a piece of off the tire?

What about this washing method Arct1k mentioned concerning the foams? How does this work?

gtxracer 05.03.2010 03:36 PM

Yep, cut it off. No worrying about anything. Those tires ran goooood.

Anyone can help me with this one?

Had the foams in water for over 24 hours but they didn't change :(. If the above doesn't work does any one have a recommendation about which inserts to buy?

Nard Cox 05.21.2010 05:49 PM

Anyone any tips on the above?

Really want these tires up and running again. Buying new foams will cost me around $20 which is a bit steep seeing I only paid $40 for these tires, with foams on dish wheels. Who can give me a goldon tip / link?

bdebde 05.21.2010 09:42 PM

Did you try the heat gun or hair dryer trick on the foams? If that won't do the trick, new foams is about the only option.

Chadworkz 05.21.2010 11:12 PM

You can run the Badlands on the Pro-Line LPR wheels (same size as Rulux Half-Ups) or the Pro-Line VTR wheels.

Nard Cox 05.22.2010 04:24 AM

@ bdebde, I've put the hair dryer on the foams for like a minute but nothing happened. No idea how long I should point it at one spot?

@ Chad, yeah I know, but the rims arn't the problem, it's those damned foams :(. These were molded foams which are more expensive.

If I'm going to buy new ones, any suggestions??

PATF100 - PANTHER STANDARD MT FOAM INSERTS (4) WHITE
PATF145 - PANTHER TRUGGY FOAM INSERTS (4) WHITE
Or any suggetions from LiquidRC or eBay?

Chadworkz 05.22.2010 02:17 PM

Ofna yellow molded foams (LPR if you use JC Rulux Half-Ups or Pro-Line LPRs or VTRs)! I have run them in various setups, including the standard MT size as well as the LPR size in both LPR wheel/tire combos and Rulux Half-Ups/Badlands MT combos.

Nard Cox 05.25.2010 11:13 AM

Chad, which one ? (100 / 104 or 106) ? Can't wait to try them on my RC8Te on this BMX park:

Will also order my Ofna 21067 there so I can get my STe back up and running.

ANGRY-ALIEN 05.25.2010 12:31 PM

nice ...

Nard Cox 06.07.2010 05:15 AM

Thanks Alien.

In the mean time I ordered the foams @ Amain and have received themand man are they different from the stockers :o. Anyway, I ordered 81106 truggy foams, but I have two questions:

1. What's the difference in the colors of the foam? They feel the same as far as I can tell.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_oXx8nzDDQME/TA...2/P1050817.JPG

2. Are these the right ones ?
I ask the 2nd question because they seem to be regular 3.2'' MT foams (they fir the Badland perfectly) and not 3.7'' foams (altough the sticker implies that they are 3.7''). Getting the foams on is a HELL of a job (it makes putting Badlands + my normal foams seem like a walk in the park) and getting the Badlands on the right spot on the rim is hard. Glueing them seems near impossible

Perfect fir on the BadLands with normally have a 3.2'' rim:
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_oXx8nzDDQME/TA...2/P1050834.JPG
The foam that I had before was way bigger:
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_oXx8nzDDQME/TA...2/P1050836.JPG
Hard to see but the Rulux Half Ups are way bigger than the hole in the Ofna foams.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_oXx8nzDDQME/TA...2/P1050838.JPG

All pictures

Did I receive the wrong foams or is it really THAT hard to put them on.
