New 1/5 Kershaw Motor

1 Attachment(s)
Kershaw Designs has put up a new "coming soon" motor. It is bigger than a 1717 and sells for $160 bucks. Who is going to try it?

Semi Pro 05.08.2010 05:43 PM

nice of them to start even knocking off names not just designs

suicideneil 05.08.2010 06:08 PM

I heard they had some new motors and escs coming out soon ( email flyer ), but that looks like some chinese clone to me- just like a 1515 sized clone some guy bought a few months back that suffered an exploded rotor. I'd wait for the Castle 20XX motor myself....

Bondonutz 05.08.2010 06:26 PM

I wouldn't buy one, No way their gonna have Castle qaulity or Customer service for when the smoke gets let out.

nuz69 05.08.2010 06:56 PM

This pictures is a false one...

The motor at the left is a 2200kV castle, ok.
The center motor is a bigger picture of a castle 1512 1Y 2650kV, just count the number of the fins :

http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/8481/img00701.jpg

The motor at the risht side is an ORION 2050kV 2 poles with a resized picture :

This is a total joke....

phildogg 05.08.2010 07:27 PM

I wouldn't buy anything from Dan @ kershaw.

i learned that the hard way

Chadworkz 05.08.2010 08:29 PM

You are absolutely correct, sir...some Photoshop work created that "KD" picture!

...And some very poor Photoshopping work at that! Looks like they used MS Paint!

Chadworkz 05.08.2010 08:49 PM

Yea, for real!

zeropointbug 05.08.2010 10:07 PM

More like a cell phone app.

killajb 05.08.2010 10:11 PM

How does this guy continue to do business?

TexasSP 05.08.2010 10:38 PM

Wow, hella lame.

Chadworkz 05.08.2010 11:18 PM

He actually stole the design from me, because I designed a super-special 1/5 scale brushless motor...below is the picture of my motor compared to two other well-known brands;

simplechamp 05.08.2010 11:33 PM

Put me down for two!

Order processed, motors will ship soon! :)

Man, your fellow competitors are gonna be sooo jealous!

rtoc 05.09.2010 12:53 AM

I'm not normally the type to jump on the bashing train, but I've used one of his products (in addition to what I've seen on forums) and KD stuff is certainly not worth the price they charge. The workman ship is not clean and looks incredibly rushed.

PBO 05.09.2010 01:09 AM

Speaking of which, didn't another lower tier "leader in BIG fast electric RC" fizzle out a while ago or has that festering sore grown back?

Hmmm, I am drawing a blank here...

P.S: "Unobtainium", hehe, I love Associated and it's "super-metal" names!!!

suicideneil 05.09.2010 09:24 AM

FineDesign^ ( Chris and his bro had to stop taking paychecks because business is so bad ).

I noticed the bad picture quality, but alot of pictures on the KD website are like that. Didnt think he'd sink to photoshopping motors because he either didnt have a good picture or wanted to mislead people deliberately; only 1/5 scale 2 pole motor I would use is a lehner.

http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...-2-Pole-2050kV

You gotta be shitting me if hes calling that^ 1/5 scale....

simplechamp 05.09.2010 10:42 AM

The dimensions say 54x96 so it can't be the same as the Orion motor. For comparison, how big is the Castle 1717?

TexasSP 05.09.2010 10:44 AM

No one is saying it will be the orion motor, he just edited a photo of the orion motor to represent his 5th scale motor.

suicideneil 05.09.2010 12:13 PM

Good point. Its still all rather fishy though...

Maybe?

Bondonutz 05.09.2010 12:35 PM

Obviously no one considered that the bunch of detectives would nit-pick and and scutinize the photo as closly as you all have ?
:rofl::rofl:

Chadworkz 05.09.2010 01:03 PM

If he plans on selling a 1/5 BL motor, and he didn't have a picture of it yet, he should have just had an "Image Not Available" thing instead of PhotoChopping an Orion Vortex 8 and two other CC/Neu motors, resizing and recoloring them.

I thought Neil was...

But I think it's just a huge Feigao clone with fins.

jsr 05.09.2010 06:02 PM

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that dislike's Kershaw. He ripped me off on a small item, which is sad because if he hadn't I would've likely purchased more stuff. Poor business practices, so even if the product fails, good luck with his lack of customer service. It's also likely that is a 2-pole motor. As stated, I wouldn't put a 2-pole in a 1/5 scale unless it were a Lehner.

Chadworkz 05.09.2010 09:55 PM

There is no motor, that's the problem/point! He Photoshopped a picture of an existing Orion Vortex-8 1/8 BL Motor, changing the size and color, and said it was his new 1/5 BL motor.

my experience with kershaw isn't that great either.

What's_nitro? 05.09.2010 10:42 PM

Is this a very very late April fools joke?

Chadworkz 05.09.2010 10:51 PM

Nah.

Nay, it was nuz69 on page one that identified the motor as being the Orion, I just googled it and found a link.

bruce750i 05.10.2010 04:25 PM

Wow a 1/5 scale motor for $159.00!

I like this one.
"Feigao 580L Brushless Motor
For the BIGGEST, most powerful motor on the block, try bolting this motor in place. MUCH more power than the Castle motor".

Technically speaking, this is true. A Castle motor could mean Castle's 1/10 scale motors. :rules:

pshhh they wish. maybe a cm 28 1/18th scale..

suicideneil 05.10.2010 09:32 PM

Yeah. JUst as an FYI for anyone who doesnt know- the feigao 580 motors are absolute junk, as tested by atleast a couple RC-M members already. Neu, Plett, Lehner and Castle are the only guys with viable 1/5 inrunners I know about...

Now, hold on there. I bet that is the most powerful motor on the block.... after all, LOTS of power is generated when they blow.

simplechamp 05.10.2010 09:51 PM

Power rating: 15,000W*

* For about 1 second when the phases short out until the ESC blows too.
