Is this an upgraded Traxxas Diff for Maxxes and Revos?
|
I rather like that center pin support and it helps keep the diff case from flexing. Either way, it's about time Trx made a diff worth the material it was made of...
|
Yea, plus they added a 3rd spider, which is a good thing.

Spoiler Alert!!!!!
Its for the 1/16th scale. |
Yep!
I was just getting ready to say that...........it's for 1/16th scale. |
Shocked
Why I am shocked, because it is only $20. So what can it be fitted to? It doesn't even say on the site what it is for.

Never even noticed that. :(

Dang! you guys had my hopes up! haha
|
Too bad
Yea its too bad they don't put that much detail into some of the 1/8 scale stuff.

It's time to replace yet another rear diff in my E Revo. The first rear diff failure was some broken teeth on the pinion. This second one stripped out the spider gears. I know we're putting alot of power to the ground now, but I really wish there was a bullet proof option. |

:rofl::rofl: What can be done to upgrade the stock E Revo diffs? I'm seeing Aluminum Diff Cases and Cups. Do they really help that much? |
Well, the aluminum cups do flex less so they should save the spider gears. Shimming the ring/pinion perfectly can help those. Other than that, the best thing to use is probably Mike's 8th scale Revo diffs. Or, just use lots and lots of punch control.

Scary

Did you mean

Just checking. Did you mean to say (DONT FLEX). I know aluminum is a soft metal, but flex in a diff cup is hard to believe. |

You did not confuse me in any way, I thought you were confused, so I was trying to clear things up for you. Anyway, I agree, the diff I posted is pretty awesome, and would make a great upgrade for the Maxx/Revo-Based vehicles if it were larger. Actually, I wish Traxxas would make a drop-in 4-spider diff upgrade for the Maxx/Revo-Based vehicles, but since that is a common 1/8 scale type diff, I am sure Traxxas won't do it, and will stick with their standard 2-spider diffs to maintain the 1/10 scale rating. I have to say, though, that if anyone just can't seem to keep their Traxxas diffs together, Mike's Hybrids are the absolute best way to go...PERIOD! If you can't get Mike's Hybrid diffs, the next-best thing to do is modify and install Losi LST diffs...they have proved to be an excellent upgrade, and many people are running them. I, myself, want to find a way to install & run a set of UE/Ofna 8-Spider diffs in my Revo...they are the best diffs ever created IMHO! Maybe Mike's upcoming Hybrid cases will be able to hold 8-Spiders...if they do, I will be a very happy camper! |
No hard feelings
No hard feelings Chad. I guess I did not state my case very well either. Still we all get the point. I'm glad we could clear the air without it becoming a blowout issue. That diff really does look interesting though doesn't it? Who knows what they might be willing to do if there is a stated demand for it.
The RCM/Fastlane Hybrid diff setup is the best idea to come out for the Maxx/Revo line for the price, BUT for sure the UE VBS is the elite or Cadilac diff setup if you have the cash and can find a set for sale. I just picked up a set myself, but paid nearly $1000 for the pair fully assembled with 8 spider gears installed. It is like having a precious piece of artwork, and it is impresive to look at. I have three of Mikes hybird diff sets fully assembled and installed on three of our Maxx trucks, and now I have the VBS for my next project/build, which I am hoping will be one of Matt's re-designed Maxxler chassis setups. |
Yea, I am glad we could work things out without a full-on internet war as well, like seems to happen a lot on other forums. You are a very cool person, as well as very knowledgeable, and I respect you more than to just treat you like anything less than an equal.
Every day I kick myself in the butt for selling my VBS a while back (both Ti & Al skids, jounces, & bumpers), but at the time I needed the money...now I am looking for another nice VBS set to buy, but they are getting harder and harder to find. I know where a complete brand-new kit for sale is, with Ti skids, jounces, bumpers, Ti hinge-pins, 8-Spiders, and shim kit, I am just trying to convince myself to drop the major coin for it ($2,500, but everything is still NIP)! The SM that the VBS will go on is a full-blown Aluminum G2 Gorillamaxx UE Supermaxx that is 99% complete, it just needs a Brushless ESC & Motor (Tekin RX8/T8-1700kV/6S LiPo), and 98% of the parts on the truck are either brand-new or so like-new that they look brand-new! All of the important parts are brand-new/like-new, such as the; G-Maxx G2 Chassis, UE Monoblock, UE 16mm Racer-X Suspension, UE Ti Pillow-Balls, UE Ti Hinge-Pins, UE Setbacks, UE Single-Shock Hi-Impacts, UE Ti 8mm CVDs, UE Aluminum Wheels, UE GenIV Servo-Saver (all 3 springs), UE Ultralites, UE 8-Spiders, GA 7075 Bulks & Braces, GA 12.9 Grade Blue Screw Kit, UE Knucklehead Shock Tower Kit, UE Supershocks (full spring set & motherlode), Strobe Slipper, Strobe Sprong, UE Steel 51T Spur, Strobe Limiters, GenIII Ultramaxxed/OTB Transmission Gears, G-Maxx Single-Speed Conversion, G-Maxx G1 Motor-Mount, FLM Aluminum Half-Case, Diemaker Dave Wing-Mount, Mugen MBX-5T Wing-Stay, JConcepts Wing, and Pro-Line Bow-Tie MTR Tires. The HCR Ti Skidplates are in excellent condition, but they are used and do show some signs of wear (scratches on the bottom), but I think I can work on them and get them looking like-new pretty easily. If I get the VBS, though, I won't have to worry about it...heh! After reading the parts list above, and the condition of said parts, you can probably understand why I am even considering spending the $2,500 on the brand-new VBS I found...the truck is almost completely brand-spanking new, so it deserves a brand-new VBS to truly be complete...right? I also want another VBS, in any condition, as long as it isn't broken, to build a nice runner out of, or maybe even another full-blown brushless Supermaxx based on the UE Lightning EXT Chassis! I have always wanted a Lightning, and I have seen a couple come up for sale recently. Man, I think I have too many projects going, and there's even more in my head... |
Know too well.
I know too well what you mean. I was just looking at the 5 trucks I have hanging on my shop wall, and none of them is in fully ready to run condition. I have been building my collection over the past 3 to 4 years and new ideas just keep popping up that get me started on another project. I just enjoy building these ultimate SuperMaxx builds. The mechanical part is a piece of cake for me, but the electronics are a bit intimadating for me. Getting the right electrical setup is a little bit difficult to do right.
I even got our two boys to build their very own stock Maxx trucks from scratch, and now they are begining to get into the upgrade sliptream of things. It has been our goal from the start to get enough trucks built up so that the whole family can hit the track and have some fun. We are close, but now we need to invest in some good Lipos and a strong charging system to get things off the ground. $$$$$ is always an issue. I hope I never have to get into a position of having to sell any of our stuff like I have seen people doing on here and on UE. Times are tough. |
Just buy a 1/8 truggy or muggy. Maxx's are nice and original but they are a thing of the past! New style 1/8's are SOOOO much more reliable than spending $2500 on a VBS setup for a Maxx.

Also, Maxx trucks are awesome for pretty much anyone, ESPECIALLY younger kids and/or first timers, or anyone that likes to upgrade and modify. The Maxx-Series of trucks is not only a very good platform, it has the largest aftermarket support of any vehicle, so owners can build their Maxx anyway they want it. Next in line is the Revo-Series of trucks, which everything above can be said about them as well! |
