Some BL Revo 3.3 Eye Candy (Pics of my Revo)...

For some reason, I decided to remove the overspray film and apply the decals & stickers to the clear body, and now I really like it clear, so I decided to take it outside for some "Night-Time in the Grass" shots of the truck! It will eventually get some paint, but I am going to run it like this for a while! Let me know if you would like to know what all is done to the truck, because the upgrade/modification list is EXTENSIVE!

The blue tribal ones are XXXMAIN Internal Graphics...the Silver Carbon-Fiber on the lower rear rocker-panels is actually regular external dark carbon-fiber decals applied on the inside of the body so you can see the backside (adhesive side) of it...the dark carbon-fiber on the rear deck (bed) and rear upper side bed panels (roll-bar area) is regular dark carbon-fiber external decals. All the rest are just external stickers and decals from all of the various upgrades/parts on the truck.

The paint-scheme is going to be very simple...the areas in front of and below the blue tribal internal decal is going to fade from metallic charcoal gray in the very front to metallic silver back to the silver carbon-fiber internal decal. The areas behind and above the blue tribal internal decal is going to be pure white. The rear deck (bed), bed sides under the roll-bar, number-plates, and roll-bar are going to be pure black. The black will make the carbon-fiber external decals on the rear deck and deck sides *pop* and stand out nicely. And finally, the windows are going to be tinted...enough to be dark, but not so dark that you can't see through them. I think I am going to make them about as dark as 15% would be on a real 1:1 vehicle.

All paints used will be Faskolor, and sprayed through Master Airbrush Systems "G" and "S" series guns.

I'm really digging that body, I actually like it clear. I wouldn't even paint it! LOL What setup do you have? It looks a lot like mine.

Urgeoner 05.14.2010 09:20 PM

I see a Vantage chassis, either tekno or rcm conversion and titanium underguard...what else? Nice truck!

sweet... does hardcore make a skidplate for the 3.3?

Chadworkz 05.15.2010 03:20 PM

Yes they do/did...since my truck is a 3.3, and all I had was the HCR 2.5 length skid, I had to cut it into two pieces to make it fit. What sucks, though, is less than a week after I cut the 2.5 skid, I won a 3.3 skid that would have bolted right on, haha! Oh well. The 2.5 skid I am running is a silver 2.5mm version, which was the most common thickness...the 3.3 version I have is the ultra-rare 2mm version, and even more rare 2mm 3.3 version! So, because of that, I am not going to run it, since it is worth a mint NIP!

BrianG 05.15.2010 03:47 PM

Welcome to the no-paint revolution! I don't paint my shells either, but not because I particularly like them that way, but because I wreck them too fast to spend that much time painting them.

Nice truck BTW

Muggydude 05.15.2010 03:52 PM

Looks great, almost exactly the same as mine, with a few differences. Quick Q: How do you like the tranny locked in 2nd without the mechanical brakes? did you ever have the mechanical brakes and how does it compare? (Also, what gearing do you have on it?) I'm trying to decide if I should switch my Tranny into second instead of the 2 speed.

- SmashBash - 05.15.2010 04:18 PM

Wow.. Nice Revo convert. Do you have a Item-No on that Harddrive body from PL? Want it on my E-Revo ;)

I absolutely love it! With the instant power and massive torque of brushless motors, 1st gear is literally useless, it's just so low and the BL motor spools up so fast, the transmission shifts in less than a second, and having the 2-speed intact seriously weakens the transmission. The torque of the BL motor IS your first gear, so the mechanical 1st gear in the transmission is not needed.

The mechanical brakes, to me, are just plain useless on any electric/brushless vehicle. The ESC & Motor are far more efficient as brakes, as well as being far more adjustable. Not to mention that mechanical brakes fade and wear out...ESC/Motor brakes NEVER fade and NEVER wear out, PERIOD!

Nope...as soon as I did the brushless conversion, the center-diff and both front & rear brakes went bye-bye!

There is no comparison...like I said, the ESC/Motor brakes are far more adjustable, NEVER fade, and NEVER wear out.

38T Mod1 Spur, 17T Mod1 Pinion, 14.8V, 0.25" Ballooning, 42.08MPH. Calculated using BrianG's Speed Calculator.

One of the best things you can do is lock the transmission into 2nd gear...it not only makes the transmission MUCH stronger and MORE durable, the parts you remove reduce rotating mass for faster acceleration and top-speed. Like I said, 1st gear is useless in a brushless setup, so you might as well go ahead and remove it now, and make your transmission stronger and more durable.

Unfortunately, PROTOform (Pro-Line) discontinued it, so it is getting very hard to find. I don't know the part number, because I no longer have the header-card from the bag the body came in, but it is just a PROTOform HardDrive body for the Revo 3.3.

Oh..
okay thanks alot.
Think i found it here http://shop.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&P=WR&I=LXTJB9 :)

Muggydude 05.15.2010 07:46 PM

But you can't buy it :( Look on ebay or amain. I alos like the hardirve too. Thanks for the help Chadworkz! Now here's my question for you. Right now I have the MMM 2650kv motor with Turnigy 4s 5000mah 40cs. Think I'll still be able to pop soime wheelies without the first gear? I was alrerady thinking about taking out the 2nd gear because I don't really like the mechanical brakes, the ESC sits way too high (I'm going to move it to where the Brake servo used to sit, and it will shave off some weight. Think my gearing off 16T pinion, 36T spur, and close ratio second gear will be a a good setup? Right now it goes about 45 m.p.h. as it sits.

Look at the stock status, it's discontinued, so you can not order it, and you can't back-order it, because they don't have any more at all.

First, get rid of that 2650kV and get the 2200kV...the 2650kV is a buggy motor, and does not do well in truck/truggy/monster truck applications...it can actually cause problems, like taking out the ESC. The 2200kV is a truggy motor, producing much more torque and power, and is exactly what you need in a truck/truggy/monster truck.

You DO NOT want to remove 2nd gear, you want to lock the transmission into 2nd gear and then remove the 1st gear components. 16/36 is decent gearing, but you really need to swap that motor for the 2200kV motor. I personally run standard-ratio, but you can run whatever you want...close, standard, wide, whatever (but I recommend standard).

Muggydude 05.16.2010 01:28 AM

Cool, I guess I'll try to sell that motor and get the 2200kv. I actually boguht this truck with, it wasn't my choice. Adn I ment remove the 1st gear, not 2nd.

- SmashBash - 05.16.2010 06:44 AM

Ah, sorry. Didnt see the status.
But I think i found it in UK.
http://www.cmldistribution.co.uk/cml...lleryImage=2#G

Or on Amain (If this fit from E/T-Maxx and Revo 2,5??) http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...dy-T-E-25-Maxx

suicideneil 05.16.2010 07:10 AM

Its out of stock on amain too, but CML do have it in stock- grab it quick!

Chadworkz 05.16.2010 12:03 PM

The 2.5 version is much too short for a Revo 3.3, and waaaay too short for an E-Revo, so it won't fit at all.

- SmashBash - 05.16.2010 03:48 PM

Maybe my LHS have some Harddrive in stock. If not, i may use the PL Slipstream.
But I think the Harddrive looks so mean with all that scoops, and the headlights! :) hihi

Muggydude 05.16.2010 07:18 PM

Got some good interest in selling my 2650kv motor today. What do you think about this gearing? Wide 2nd gear, 36T spur, 17T pinion, 2200kv mtor, 4 cell lipo, and badlands tires? Top spped shoudl be about 45 m.p.h.

Chadworkz 05.31.2010 06:11 AM

Well, I finally got around to painting my body...even though I have been bashing it clear for a while, and you can tell, too!

Anyway, here she is (I haven't tinted the windows yet because the Fastint sucks monkey balls, so I have to get a different tint)...

Chadworkz 05.31.2010 04:43 PM

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it...I just wish I had done this when the body was new, heh! Now I have, I think, at least 5 more bodies to paint...one of them being really detailed!

Again, thanks for the awesome compliments everyone!
