I just won a like-new UE Lightning Chassis for $416!!!

I just can't believe it! Now, if I can just win the UE VBS I am bidding on, I will be the happiest person on the planet!!!

I am so friggin' excited!

simplechamp 05.16.2010 05:15 AM

Wow, that UE stuff really commands high prices.

suicideneil 05.16.2010 06:41 AM

Sweet.

Is it just me, or are there no holes in the chassis for mounting a tranny?...

Byte 05.16.2010 07:28 AM

Looks nice, but why is that stuff so pricey? Is it some kind of special aluminium?

George16 05.16.2010 07:49 AM

It was cheap because it's missing the tranny mount. It was the topic over at UE.

http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...=22862&acon=39

I would not trust the seller myself.

magman 05.16.2010 07:58 AM

I know that UE stuff is the bomb, but, for that price...no way...just my opinion

JERRY2KONE 05.16.2010 08:05 AM

Correct.

Lito is correct. Without the tranny mounts you cannot mount a normal 3906 Maxx tranny. Of course you do have one option, which is to mount one of MonsterMike's universal center diff mounts and run a center diff unit. Your only other options would be to find a set of tranny mounts, ask Robin if he has a set, or make your own from some aluminum plate. Best of luck.

Bondonutz 05.16.2010 09:24 AM

416.00 is a deal ?
Eep, there better be a pair of willing lips attached to that thing somewhere ?

It does look very nice, glad your happy w/it.
I expect build pics soon !

Chadworkz 05.16.2010 12:57 PM

Lightning chassis typically go for $700-$800, depending on condition, and this one is in excellent condition. Plus, the seller has the transmission mounts, and they are included with the chassis. He originally couldn't find them, but finally did. Besides, it didn't matter anyway, because I actually have a set (didn't even know what they were a while back), and I know where at least one more set are.

Yes it does, it is the best ever created!

There are small pieces of aluminum that are about 3/8" wide, 1/4" tall, and 2½" long that bolt to the chassis, and then the transmission bolts to them. A set is coming with the chassis, plus I also have a set.

The aluminum itself is Heat-Treated 7075-T6 Alloy Aluminum, which is pretty much the best aluminum alloy there is. 7075-T6 is 4 times stronger, and more than 2 times harder than 6061-T6, basically making 7075-T6 a super-aluminum, far superior to 6061-T6 for making RC parts out of. The only property in which 6061-T6 beats 7075-T6 is weight...7075-T6 is a little heavier than 6061-T6, but that is easily and commonly overcome, resulting in a 7075-T6 part actually being lighter than the same part made out of 6061-T6. Since 7075-T6 is so much stronger than 6061-T6, you don't have to use as much of it to create the part, resulting in a 7075-T6 part that is both stronger and lighter than the same part made out of 6061-T6.

And going far beyond just the strength and durability of the 7075-T6 aluminum alloy he used, all UE parts were meticulously designed, engineered, tested, refined, and created by Robin Oury (Owner of Unlimited Engineering) to be better than any other part on the market, or to create a completely new part for the market! UE parts are not just aluminum copies of stock parts, far from it, they are completely re-engineered by Robin, making them better, stronger, lighter, more durable, and higher-performing. Robin changed the working geometry of many of his parts for higher, superior performance. He literally developed new technologies that were once deemed impossible (like his Hi-Impact technology). UE parts literally are the very best parts available for the Maxx-Series of trucks, and nothing else even comes close!

Like I said, $416 is cheap for a Lightning chassis, since there were so few made, and most people who own one refuse to ever sell it. They typically go for $700 to $800 used, and much more NIP!

The seller is sending the mounts with the chassis, and I have a set of them anyway.

Hellz yea $416 is a deal...maybe not to some of you guys, but it most definitely is to me! I will have Andrea (my fiance) "use her lips" while I hold and stare at my new UE Lightning EXT Chassis...HAHA!

I AM very happy with it, happier than I have ever been about buying a UE part...the only thing that will make me happier is if I win the VBS I am bidding on, or whenever I finally get a VBS.

Trust me, there will be a build thread for this truck, it will just have to wait until I get a VBS so I can use the parts from my current Supermaxx that the VBS replaces, as well as when I find and buy another UE Racer-X Suspension (16mm preferred, since I have another set of 8mm UE CVDs)!

I know that some of you think $416 is way too much money for this chassis, and that some of you just aren't very familiar with Unlimited Engineering (Supermaxx) parts, but I am extremely pleased and happy and excited about this purchase...especially since I have been wanting a Lightning for a very long time.

Honestly, I know what you mean about the quality, and rarity of the UE parts, but some of them I wouldn't run. Maybe its just me...Like the Lightning chassis for one. I just never cared for them since its a high CG chassis. I'd much rather something like a Gorillamaxx.

Chadworkz 05.16.2010 06:12 PM

The Lightning chassis is designed to run the batteries either on top of the chassis or on bottom of the chassis, so it can be configured for low center-of-gravity.

George16 05.16.2010 10:57 PM

I thought you said you already had a VBS before.

Anyway, let me see a picture of the tranny mount you have in your parts bin.

I have a set of 16mm racerx but I'm not going to sell them :):).

JERRY2KONE 05.16.2010 11:13 PM

$$$$$$

I don't even know what Robin was selling the "Lightning" chassis for when it first came out, but considering what they have been selling for ($800-$1K) on EBay $416 is not too bad. I would have paid that much for another one, with or without tranny mounts. I hope it all works out for you.

I wish...I had all but won or bought at least two sets, but they fell through for one reason or another. Robin has a NIP set including Ti skids, jounces, and bumpers for $1500, I just don't have that much to drop right now.

Man, don't tease me like that! I may have to settle for a 15mm Racer-X and just run 15x8x5 bearings.

I will try to dig them out and snap a picture of them tomorrow, I am not about to start digging through my RC room right now, it's all kinds of FUBAR! The sad thing is, it is also the "guest room!", haha!

You need to clean that up or else I'll come over and haul everything away when I go visit my in laws in Anniston :lol:.

Chadworkz 05.17.2010 02:17 AM

I know, it's a mess!

But dude, seriously, you HAVE to stop by here on your way to Anniston, or on your way back, whichever! We can run some trucks and maybe get everyone together for lunch or dinner.

George16 05.17.2010 03:46 AM

That would be a great idea!!! I'm due to rotate out from Japan next year unless I get extended for another 3 years. I do would like to go back stateside since I miss my house, 1:1 truck and everything else in between. I miss Anniston too for the good dairy products from that dairy farm in Gadsen and having a whole pig roasted for 8-10 hours under the shade of some big old oak trees.

Urgeoner 05.17.2010 04:37 PM

Dude...Sweet collection! Is that an optima? Old school rules!

Weird those are my pics of one of my lightning on my comforter BUT i did not sell a lightning lately hmmmmm

Nard Cox 05.18.2010 04:34 AM

My GF and parents hate it when I say I 'won' something on eBay .... they always say I just 'bought and paid' it. Can't blame them though

Anyway, it looks very nice, unlike your 'guest room' (although I can spend some time in there with fun).

Michael, so those are your pics. I'm not surprised at all.

Chad, more power to you in posting Michael's pictures.

Mikak 05.18.2010 09:33 PM

100% guarantee those are my pics i took. if you look at my gallery on UE you will see i have several pics with that same background thats my white comforter.. i took that pic when i was mounting the rcm center diff for the first time thats why ther tranny mounts are not on it at the time of the pic....

here are some more pics as i took them so you guys will see those are my pics.. i guess i need to start water marking my pics. i will post several parts that were taken at the same time so you can clearly see the background is my comforter and the lightning and vbs are side by side in my pic also to compare.

I was going to say the same thing... sportsam was the one that had that lightning listed and NEVER uses a white backround ..... look at Mike's lightning pic carefully (the one with the VBS) ... no tranny mounts also.... hmmmm makes you wonder...

Chad - I also thought that Robin had SOLD the last VBS he had with the ti skids and 8 spyders about 2 - 3 months ago and he got ... $1200 I believe and he said that was his last like new set...

Sounds fishy to me... maybe you have a set of hardcore knuckles in that room too .... I know someone wanted them, but wasn't able to receive them .... hope the medical bills are all set now after the "lightning" purchase

JERRY2KONE 05.19.2010 07:23 AM

Hey whats up with that?

Off topic, but if you're looking for a green HCR chassis, my LHS has one new in the package. I can check on price the next time I'm there.

Ummm...[here] is the link to the won item page on eBay. The seller is "kpfj40", so you can contact him if you feel like you need to.

Here is a picture of the page I linked to, where I won the chassis...

http://pics.offroadextremes.com/rc/lightning_ebay.jpg

sweetride4me 05.19.2010 11:39 AM

Which is a sportsam second account... notice none of his other auctions are on the same background... you should know you don't always get something when you win it.... but best of luck

If this is true, then the seller "kpfj40" is the one who stole the pictures and used them for his listing on eBay. If the pictures are in fact yours, that means I have been screwed. Why don't you show me the original pics that you took, which will be bigger since eBay resizes them, and we can all look closely at them to see if the wrinkles match up. Also, I am pretty sure there are more than one white comforter, blanket, sheet in the world.

Lito, the pics I posted came directly from the eBay page where the item was listed, I did not post random pictures saying I won the item in them.

So, every Lightning sold with no transmission mounts is not real, and is actually a chassis that belongs to Mike, and anyone who says they bought a chassis is lying about it and is using stolen pictures? Crazy!

The last time I spoke with Robin (not too long ago), he told me about the VBS I mentioned. If he has already sold it, oh well, I didn't have the money to buy it anyway.

Hardcore knuckles got shipped out along with everything else. If they didn't get them, I don't know why. PayPal refunded all money to the buyers who didn't receive their parts (3 out of 17 I think), and I am left without the parts and without the payments for them.

So are you saying I got scammed?

Arct1k 05.19.2010 11:59 AM

I know and appreciate your back might be up from the other thread but I think people are just expressing concern that these might not be this persons pics...

They all I'm sure hope its not true but are just giving you a heads up - Have you got a tracking number yet?

Chadworkz 05.19.2010 12:02 PM

He used standard shipping, so no tracking number available.

If these guys think I got scammed (besides what it looks like, I do trust them all), then I am sure I did get scammed, so I will go ahead and start the process of getting my money back.

Arct1k 05.19.2010 12:14 PM

Thats tricky... I'd never accept less than priority with tracking for anything over $25 let alone $400....

Sounding fishy...

Chadworkz 05.19.2010 12:19 PM

Thanks for your help.

ANGRY-ALIEN 05.19.2010 12:24 PM

When you say 'standard shipping'... do you mean USPS? If so... the shipper/merchant still gets a 'Delivery Confirmation number' on their receipt... so send him a mail and ask for it.

Chadworkz 05.19.2010 12:28 PM

Yea, USPS Parcel-Post. I have shipped a few things using Parcel-Post, and have never gotten/seenn a delivery confirmation number...do you have to request it?

I have emailed him now a couple times, no replies yet...

ANGRY-ALIEN 05.19.2010 12:35 PM

hmmm... for $416... I would like to know the movements of my purchase... keep sending mails... maybe you have to request when you send a parcel...
I assume there is always some sort of tracking for USPS to keep updates for themselves... or I may be wrong... but, for $416, I would have requested another
shipping service with insurance.

Andrew32 05.19.2010 12:37 PM

tricky situation. My advice...aka my rule of thumb, is to never deal with people with under 99% feedback. Hasent bitten me in the butt yet.

I hope you get your package and even if its the wrong picture, that he sends you a product of equivalent condition. Or.....paypal dispute and get your money back. Go read through the buyer protection policy and make sure you have your bases covered. That think has changed so much i don't know whats what anymore. Best of luck!
