Insides of a Maxamps Hardcase

This was the 40C 4000mah 3S...

It didn't like running in my Slash 4x4 so much...

NO Way Dude!

There's like 2 cells puffed there!

You must have been pulling more than 160 amps continously in your 1/10 scale!

How old is this pack? How many cycles did you squeeze out of it?

Arct1k 05.21.2010 05:21 PM

Pack was from about Oct last year IIRC - Its had maybe 10-15 cycles because of winter...

Sucks a lot as local track demands hardcase and these looked nice for 3s...

Sent an email into Maxamps - Will see what I get back...

But the pack is now in a bucket of water for a few days...

It's OK, They are water-proof! LOL

Expect the third degree about your setup.

zeropointbug 05.21.2010 05:39 PM

You must have been drawing over 10C on the maxcraps?! :mdr:

Go grab a TP 45C 3s hardcase pack if you can.

sikeston34m 05.21.2010 05:43 PM

It looks like that one cell had a blow out.

Was there smoke?

reno911 05.21.2010 05:59 PM

Talking about product quality. The most I have ever poofed was a single cell in a 4s zippy pack, and it didn't poof to that size. Thats pretty cool actually, sure glad they give their warranties out for free now.

sikeston34m 05.21.2010 06:00 PM

Wait! There's good new! I just visited the website!

There's a light at the end of this tunnel.

They probably won't be able to warranty that pack or anything, BUT........

You can buy a NEW one for $175 dollars plus shipping.

But WAIT!!.............There's more good news!

These NEW packs are 70C!!!!!

*Cough- Cough*

Bondonutz 05.21.2010 06:22 PM

Doesn't surprise me to see this, sorry for your $$ loss.
If they send you a new one, sell it and buy something else !

TexasSP 05.21.2010 06:26 PM

Holy puffing lipos Batman!

I wish I could say I am surprised but.................they're not called maxpuffs for nothing.

suicideneil 05.21.2010 08:02 PM

This is madness... can someone skilled in the art PC-foo please take down the nitrokillers forum & MA website, and put up a warning NOT to buy their junk lipos? Make sure you post those pictures & your non-demanding setup over there too dude, let the fanboys know what they've got themselves into... :sarcastic:

nitrostarter 05.21.2010 09:03 PM

Is anyone truly surprised at this outcome?

Nice job Chris! What motor were you running?

Arct1k 05.21.2010 09:08 PM

It was a medusa 50mm 3300 kv in my slash 4x4... Hay ho...

magman 05.21.2010 09:37 PM

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words....enough said

bdebde 05.21.2010 09:38 PM

MaxAmps lipos... they plump when you cook em!

If I had been drinking anything, it would've come out my nose after reading that!

Finnster 05.21.2010 10:03 PM

Words can do no justice, but the pics speak volumes.

Chadworkz 05.21.2010 11:08 PM

70C, haha!!! It's funny how nowhere on the pack does it say the 70C is actually burst, not continuous...continuous is only 35C. It's just another way for them to sell packs at inflated specs and inflated prices!

Like Bondonutz said, if you do get a replacement pack, sell that sucker to some sucker and buy a real battery!

simplechamp 05.22.2010 05:31 AM

But remember guys, Maxamps doesn't believe in the whole C-rating hype....

Oh wait, "This pack boasts a 60C rating for all your amp hungry racing setups."

DCastaneda 05.22.2010 08:59 PM

Maxamps should look into switching to Hobbyking's supplier. At least their c-ratings are believable :mdr:

simplechamp 05.23.2010 11:46 AM

Honestly I can see where they are coming from with their stance on C-ratings being arbitrary, but if they were really serious about their "surge watts" system then they shouldn't be describing their packs with "this boasts a 60C rating!" I mean, they have a section on their website dedicated to explaining why C-ratings don't mean anything. Seems very contradictory. But they have to keep C-ratings to sell packs, people wouldn't buy them otherwise.

Would be nice if there was a set standard across the board for what exactly constituted constant and surge/burst amp ratings. I.E. above 3.6v/cell for constant and 3.3v/cell for burst (Just as an example)

simplechamp 05.23.2010 01:42 PM

Yeah, it would be nice. There have been plenty of discussions around here and other about creating a standardized testing and rating method, but most discussions end with the determination that there are many different factors that will prevent it from ever happening.

Yeah, they want to convince you that C-ratings don't mean anything, but then Inflate their own ratings beyond every other pack on the market!

They boast they have the most? Pfffttt...........

Pictures speak volumes.

Can you post some pictures here?

I wanna see.

What was your setup? How many cycles did they have on them?

magman 05.23.2010 05:23 PM

At least Max amps can boast about one thing....they have the most puffs!

True!

But the Maxamps pack will drain your wallet a lot more than a great box of cereal and besides, the cereal will give you more satisfaction!

Arct1k 05.24.2010 12:21 PM

To closeout this thread I was offered 50% off a new pack as this was already a replacement for a failed pack...
