Bye bye HobbyKing??

Don't know if there is already a thread about this, if so than lock this one and throw it into the ocean.

Hongkong Post bans airmailing of lipos

A friend of mine ordered a LiPo like 1.5 week back and the item was returned to sender. Bad news for all who liked Zippy/Turnigy ??

bigsteel 06.02.2010 05:26 PM

Wow,maybe it wasn't such a great time to convert my revo after all if this is really going to happen--Josh

vader2728 06.02.2010 05:27 PM

I just got my lipos in the mail this week that I ordered about the same time. Wonder how I got so lucky? I never get lucky...

suicideneil 06.02.2010 05:34 PM

That sucks ballz.

Does mention thats HK only so far, hopefully Hobbyking & the like will have a mainland base warehouse to get around this eventually....

_paralyzed_ 06.02.2010 05:40 PM

rest assuredly boyz, those scrupulous asians will find a way to sell us their wares

Nard Cox 06.02.2010 05:53 PM

@ vader, there's a first time for everything ;)

@ neil, yeah I was hoping they will stock LiPo's roof high in the DE warehouse!

@ para, lol ... LOST voice : ''if there's a way, they will find it''

EDIT: update from the friend of mine who ordered the LiPo :

HK : ''yes, once we receive the returned package, we can cancel the order for you and issue refund. Please check your hobbyking account for updates later.''

PBO 06.02.2010 06:28 PM

Made an order yesterday. No suggestions of any issue

DCastaneda 06.02.2010 06:32 PM

Well, this sucks. Blue Lipo anyone?

reno911 06.02.2010 06:33 PM

Well that sucks.

There will be a loop hole somewhere somehow.

TexasSP 06.02.2010 06:45 PM

So there's one piece of information and nothing else. I think it's a little early for hand ringing.

reno911 06.02.2010 06:47 PM

I was about to say the same, I can not find anything else anywhere on this subject. Made up?

reno911 06.02.2010 06:49 PM

Found this:

FYI, they now have a UPS International shipping option. It's only good for up to 2kg, but at least it's an option now.

simplechamp 06.02.2010 08:42 PM

This might come into play as well, posted on the Hyperion website: "Recent changes in international shipping regulations limit single cells to 20Wh, and packs to 100Wh." It's supposedly for all international shipping, not just HK Post.

Basically, for international shipping a single lipo cell can only be 5400mah max capacity, and the biggest pack can be a 5S 5400mah. Anything bigger than that will need to be split into two packs (still wrapped together in same heatshrink, but as far as the circuit/wiring is concerned they are separate) that will need to use a jumper wire to combine them back into one pack when it arrives at the destination.

There is a thread about this in the "General Electric" section of the forum.

FG101C 06.02.2010 09:02 PM

Made an order monday, guess I'll see what happens.

What's_nitro? 06.02.2010 09:06 PM

What is the point of this new regulation? Was there some kind of accident, or are the old people running the world just getting power hungry again?

So your saying if we order a 4s 5000 or a 5s 5000 . There should be no problem with them shipping it.

simplechamp 06.02.2010 09:50 PM

The packs you listed meet the requirement of being less than 100Wh and less than 20Wh for a single cell so they can be shipped internationally, but Hong Kong Post is saying they won't ship any lipos anymore, so you'd need to use another carrier still.

More than likely it's some gov't agency trying to protect us from ourselves because you know people in general are stupid and need big brother to think for us...

Chadworkz 06.02.2010 10:19 PM

If it just applies to airmail & EMS, then it doesn't affect the regular HobbyCity shipping method at all (by boat), it will just take longer to get our batteries.

Losi LST2 06.02.2010 10:35 PM

I just ordered 2 6s 5000mah batteries last week and got the EMS shipping

Am i going to end up getting screwed over because of this?

No. They are working on rerouting those packages by other means. It may take longer, but you should still get your order.

I hope so...cause if these bateries don't get to me my lst probobly wont get run at all :O

Hopfully they figure out away around this

_paralyzed_ 06.03.2010 12:29 AM

I told everyone to rest assuredly, that things would be figured out in post #5.

Quite frankly I don't understand why there were any questions or discussions after I spoke.:intello:

We are now trialing a private courier that will ship parcels under 1kg to Europe in 4 days and at the same price as Registered Air mail.
Thats around $18US to post 1kg to Europe in 4 days!
We hope to have this new service confirmed in the next 14 days.

We have already begun trialing this new service with many european orders, and to see what the tracking details look like take a look below;

29.05.2010 13:48 Mailed
29.05.2010 13:48 Mailed Swiss Post SINGAPORE
29.05.2010 13:48 Arrival at border point of country of mailing Swiss Post SINGAPORE
29.05.2010 14:21 Departed transit country
29.05.2010 14:21 Departure from border point of country of mailing Swiss Post SINGAPORE
29.05.2010 14:21 Departed transit country Swiss Post SINGAPORE
01.06.2010 12:12 Mailed
01.06.2010 23:21 Arrival at border point of country of mailing CH-8010 Zürich 1
01.06.2010 23:22 Departure from border point of country of mailing CH-8010 Zürich 1
As you can see, the courier service travels via Singapore, then via SwissPost to Europe and then via private courier to your door.
This type of service is treated as standard mail, just like Registered Air Mail. So customs is a non-issue.

It's those damned nitro people got together and done this!!! :whip:

suicideneil 06.03.2010 10:36 AM

Hmm, $18 for ~2lbs aint too bad, thats a pair of 4s lipos I'd say..

Finnster 06.03.2010 02:20 PM

Eh, nitro people can't get nitro shipped unless its by expensive hazmat shipping. Thankful its not that.

Looks like they will work around the guidelines easily enough. At my company we have to ship chemicals all over the world, and there are quite a few regs how things get packaged, allowable amts and types of classifications and labelling.

I know of a particular idiot at another company who put a highly toxic chemotherapy drug (pure active ingredient, fatal in parts per billion amts) into a metal container, filled it w/ dry ice, and sealed it air tight, and left it in a shipping dept w/ a note to be sent out overseas for some reason. Basically he unwittingly built a large pipe bomb filled w/ poisonous biological agents, and he wanted to put in on a plane for a trip over the atlantic. Terrorists would be pissing in their pants to get a hold of something like this.

Fortunately it was found first by someone w/ a f'ing clue before it blew up, and somehow the guy still got his promotion that year. 0_o

Priceless!

I am not too concerned over all of this. They will find a way to keep their customers. They must make a boat load of profit from outside sells. Cutting that off is like kicking a man in the balls. They WILL find a way.

Thats a joke in relation to Jason from Maxamps...

My quattro charger and lipo order was nuked after 4 days and returned to Hobbyking - They have re-shipped apparently but no tracking number now so I have limited hope.

Its been 36 days since my order was placed so Im just going to file a paypal claim on monday - if that fails I can hit up AMEX for part of it at least...
