Nice review, I might have to pick one up for my 9e...
|
cool stuff. i have been seeing this moos racing all over the place in the past week. i have to admit, the pics you posted look much better than the pics on his site. i would love to see his chassis person. they look pretty good and would love to see how this "blend" compares to regular carbon. thanks for info.
|
I'm picking one up for my Jammin buggy on Monday.
|
He made some 8ight-E specific chassis that I want bad, but I've been unable to get in contact with him. A guy from France posted a picture of one and it's exactly what I want.
|
John of MoosRacing is extreemly backed up right now with orders. If you email John(of MoosRacing) and let him know what you need and to please send you a paypal invoice, that will be the best way to get your order going as fast as possible. John has dozzens and dozzens of emails from people that ask many questions and seem to not know what they want yet. Whereas if you email your specific order, that's the way to go. Also, the losi 8ight-E can be ordered and paid for by way of Johns new web page. Just go to the main MoosRacing web page and press the link to the new web page, the losi 8 chassis are available for order right there, among a few other models. If anyone has a 1/8th scale RC model that wants a carbon fiber chassis for a model that is not listed, you can ask for that model to be special ordered and be specific with your needs and what you know you want. This will move your order along as quick as possible. I hope this helps. And also keep in mind that Robert of "Matrix Concepts Inc" Also makes extreemly high quality carbon fiber chassis for the losi 8. With replaceable carbon fiber skid plates and droop screw plates. The skid plates are also built into the chassis and therefore sit flush(do not protrude) beyond the bottom of the chassis. It's your choice. Also, both manufacturers prices start at just over $100.oo. John of MoosRacing sells his carbon fiber chassis from about $100.oo and up to about $150.oo depending on the model. Robert of Matrix Concepts Inc, sells his carbon fiber chassis for $109.oo and also offers a complete carbon fiber kit with aluminum couplers and drive shafts. Please write/email the manufactures directly with any further questions. And know that your order will most quickly be expedited, if you place that order today, or as soon as is possible for you to do so. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Pricing is good, probably going to wrap up my slash project before ordering, but the 8ight-E chassis was on my "need" list. I'll probably order it in the next week or two.
|
Just ordered my Jammin buggy chassis. Can't wait to try it out. It is electric specific so it doesn't have the extra holes a nitro chassis would for the engine mounting and clutch clearance slot.

Just curious MindThoughts, what is your connection/relationship with Moos Racing?
|
My connection to John of MoosRacing.
I'm just a very happy customer. I've been looking for ways to fix up and improve the performance of my Hyper 9e. And also make the buggy as light as possible. Many of us on the rctech forum have been writing Robert of Matrix Concepts Inc. And asking if Robert would make us a carbon fiber race chassis for the Hyper 9e. Someone on the Hyper 9e thread on rctech discovered MoosRacing and John of MoosRacing said he would make one and to give him one week. All of us were absolutely shocked that someone was going to make us a quality(from a mold) carbon fiber chassis. I'm just sharing this awareness with others. And from the number of people that are viewing this thread, it is clear that this technology is quite popular. I'm extreemly excited and also very grateful. I think my excitement shows when I talk about John of MoosRacing and Robert of Matrix Concepts Inc, crafts. Each of these two companies are doing things with carbon fiber that many said could not be done. Thank you for asking. And I will continue to keep this thread up to date with pictures and data, as it relates to this Carbon Fiber chassis and parts. Special thanks to John of MoosRacing for making these carbon fiber race chassis for anyone that would like to own one. Also special thanks go to Robert of Matrix Concepts Inc. It is Roberts Carbon Fiber Chassis and learning about this technology, that made me know that all my race buggies from this day forward, will always have all the carbon fiber parts possible, and that starts with the Carbon Fiber Chassis.

This is a pic John sent me of my chassis. I was glad to see those inserts in the droop screw tabs, wasn't sure how I was going to protect that area, but it's good to go. Should be on its way to me right now.
What is the flex pattern of these like compared to say a 7075 alum. chassis? Ryu James made his own carbon chassis some time back, but I think he found it didn't flex quite to his liking with the thickness of CF he used. Maybe plastic chassis braces could be used? Or just one in front or rear? Or none? Or keep using both as with a regular alloy chassis? Not sure, just throwing out ideas. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...bonChassis.jpg |
Simple, from what I've read, the moos chassis flex a little more than stock (they're actually thin aluminum wrapped with carbon). I'm planning to run 2 aluminum braces on my 8ight-E as they're generally too stiff for the stock chassis... I'm hoping they're just right for the carbon one.

MoosRacing and Matrix Concepts Inc-Carbon Fiber Chassis Flex a little more than stock
Simplechamp,
These hand made(in a mold)Carbon Fiber Chassis are not made from pre-fabricated sheets of carbon fiber. Both John of MoosRacing and Robert of Matrix Concepts have refined and perfected the amount of chassis flex these carbon fiber chassis deliver. The end result being these chassis flex a little more than the stock chassis which is ideal for offroad RC racing. At about 100.oo dollars each, for the Hyper 9e chassis from moosracing, and the quality of the craftsmenship, these carbon fiber chassis are a must have performance upgrade. I can also completely relate to your apprecieation of the hardened steel droop screw reciever heads being an awesome aspect to these chassis. And those hard steel reciever heads can be changed easily if ever needed. They just unscrew with ease. PS. Yes AMorgan, it'll be fun to experiment with tuning your chassis flex to your specific needs. And that's the exact reason John and Robert both running seperate carbon fiber chassis manufacturing companies have arrived at the same concept when it comes to chassis flex. It's better to have the chassis flex more than the stock chassis because you can always reduce chassis flex with chassis braces of various types and materials. But if you start with a stiff chassis, you have zero chassis tuning options. With today's carbon fiber processes, both John and Robert can increase or decrease the amount of chassis flex in increments that would be impossible with metal or graphite chassis. These carbon fiber chasses from MoosRacing and Matrix Concepts Inc trully are cutting edge technology. And it's extreemly exciting to own one of these technological marvels. PPS. Your chassis looks really awesome simplechamp. Please show us some detailed pictures of the chassis when your RC is all put together. I can't wait to see it. This chassis looks really nice. Congratulations :-) Quote:

You're a funny guy. Keep up all this motivation.

Carbon Fiber Chassis with Kevlar and Aluminum in the Mix. Great Recipe.
Thank you Ryu James,
I really apprecieate the complements. I also like these chassis allot. I can't wait to start racing my Hyper 9e again once I've completed the complete rebuild. Ryu, do you know where I may buy upgrade drive shafts for my Hyper 9e? I'm looking for four Aluminum drive shafts, two front and two rear, and aluminum wheel axles, and also a complete set of hard steel, lightened outdrives/drive cups. I'm having quite a challenge finding any lightweight performance parts for my Hyper 9e drive-train. Yet I find many available for MBX6 and Losi 8ight-E. Any direction or help would be greatly apprecieated Ryu James. And if anyone reading this has any information at all on Hyper 9e Lightweight and or Hardened steel Drivetrain Parts, please post links and names. Thank you in advance. PS. And if anyone has the ability to make their own parts at home or shop, and are willing to work with me or are open to the posibility of making some drivetrain parts for my buggy, I'd be all to happy to fill up your bank account for services rendered. Thank you in advance. Hope to hear from you soon. Quote:

Motivated by Quality.
Thank you sabongi,
I apprecieate your apprecieation. I have allot of fun with this hobby. I hope one day we will have a RC track in every city. It's hard to believe but I meet people everyday that don't even know this hobby exist, yet love the idea and show great interest in practicing the hobby. I help many people get started in this hobby. It's a great pleasure. And as you can see, I have a great respect and apprecieation for quality. You have a good and motivated day, as well. Quote:

Keep in mind that this forum owner does custom parts and is very knowledgeable in this area. Would be nice to give him some business while using his forum as advertisement. |
I will write Monster Mike right away! Thank you nitrostarter.
Hi Nitro,
Thank you for the idea. I actually wrote Mike a few weeks ago about "building/Designing the Ultimate 1/8th scale buggy". Mike agreed to colaborate with me on the project and said he would work with me on refining different aspects of the design specifics as we encounter problems and challenges. With that said, I had not considered asking Mike if he would make me four Aluminum drive shafts for my Hyper 9e. I guess when I thought of Mike, I thought of the Designing/Creating Ultimate 1/8th scale buggy, rather than what I need right now for my Hyper 9e. I will write Mike an email right away. And let everyone know the final outcome and process of this development. Thank you nitro. Have a great, safe day. Quote:

Yep, Mike seems to be a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to RC stuff. If you need it chances are he can make it!

1/8th scale Electric Complete Re-Design. Lighter and Longer Lasting Drivetrain.
The good thing is, it was really easy to discover that Mike makes parts and also complete RC designs. Thinking back, Mike was actually one of the first people I asked if he could make me a carbon fiber chassis for my Hyper 9e. And though Mike is not set up for making carbon fiber chassis, he offered to work with me on other larger RC designs. I really believe that 1/8th scale Electric RC design has a long way to go, in the realm of Electric chassis design and drivetrain durability and design. I let Mike know I would create drawings/designs on paper and send them when complete, Mike offered to perfect and make possible those designs. It's going to be an exciting project. I believe the final product will basically be a Hyper 9e layout, with Losi 8ight-8E Durability, and a lightwieght, wear resistant drive train that is soo needed with these buggies. It'll be allot of fun. That's for sure.
PS. Thank you simplechamp. Mike has expressed his interest, ability and passion for RC design in correspondence with me via emails. I look forward to working with Mike. I greatly apprecieate the knowledge and advice Mike has given and shared with me. Quote:

Carbon Fiber Bodies For RC's, by John of MoosRacing. Also come in a variety of colors
I recently learned that John, Owner and Founder of MoosRacing, also makes Carbon Fiber Bodies in various colors, including the classis- Black Woven Carbon Fiber Look. My understanding is that John can make any style Carbon Fiber Body. John will need your body style of choice sent to MoosRacing, from which John will use this original Lexan or Pollycarbonate body as a reference to mold and shape your own custom and completely unique Carbon Fiber Body. I believe John can make any body for any RC, so long as you send the original RC body from which John will create your own unique style body. If you have any questions and or to clarify any design specifics you wish to request, please contact/email John of MoosRacing directly. I hope you find this information as awesome, incredible; and exciting as I have. I do not know the weight difference between the carbon fiber and the Lexan & Pollycarbonate bodies, but these are specifics I'm sure John will answer upon your contact with him. I will be posting pictures of a couple different carbon fiber bodies, soon. I ordered two white carbon fiber bodies for my Hyper 9e, and John confirmed being able to make the body less wide, in order to fit the carbon fiber side guards snug. John has not yet confirmed the posibility of making my carbon fiber body in white, or a white and black weave. I love the way the black carbon fiber looks, but the dark colors tend to make it more dificult to see the buggy on the track. Though I was thinking I could use a "white flames" tribal sticker kit, to make the RC stand out against the background. I do not yet have a price on how much these carbon fiber bodies sell for. Please contact John of MoosRacing for any further details. John mention he's recieving orders from all over the world for the carbon fiber chassis, bodies and parts. Please continue to post pictures of your MoosRacing carbon fiber chassis, bodies and parts.

Pictures of Two Different Carbon Fiber RC Bodies. Also Available in Different Colors.
Pictured Bellow is- One Jammin SCRT 10 carbon body and one Jammin X2 Truggy body.
http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/148...arbonfiber.png As soon as I recieve my two Hyper 9e Carbon Fiber Bodies from John of MoosRacing, I will do a complete detailed review with many detailed pictures as well. For now, I'm sharing with you all I know. And the Carbon Fiber Chassis and Parts I bought from John, are excellent in every way. As I discover and learn more information, I will share with this link; everything I learn and know. http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/9...carbonfibe.jpg |
I received my Jammin X2 CF chassis a few days ago, shipping was quite fast. I will need to get new center CVDs (and chassis braces?) before I can install it, since I'm running the X1 chassis right now. Might need to drill a few other holes also to set it up for a saddle pack (2x2S) config.
The CF chassis looks very solid and thick, but it actually seems to have the same or more flex than the stock X1 chassis I compared it with. The stock X1 chassis weighed in at 288g on my digital scale, and the CF X2 chassis came in at 226g. Not sure how substantial that is, but as a basher I'm not terribly concerned with weight, I just love CF. Can't wait to get my buggy set up with this new chassis! |
Another lover of carbon fiber.
Quote:
That's awesome simplechamp, can you show us a few different angle pictures, of the bottom of your chassis, and the side and top of your RC with the body off. As a basher, and lover of carbon fiber, you may want to order your body in carbon fiber as well, that would look super awesome, you could get the same kind and color carbon fiber for your body, as your chassis is made from. This way your body would also last much longer than the lexan bodies as well. I ordered two of my favorite bodies for my Hyper 9e, I'll post many pictures once I've recieved them. Let me know what you think about running the carbon fiber body, and please post up some new pictures, can't wait to see this beast put together. Have a great evening. And thank you for keeping us posted on your carbon fiber progress. PS. It would have been awesome if you could have let John know you were planning on running two batteries and maybe he could have helped you with drilling those holes as well. Though he may have need you to send him the battery boxes in order to know exactly where to drill the new holes for those battery boxes. Maybe you could post up some before and after battery modification pictures as well. That would be cool to. |
Yeah I thought about having him do the extra drilling, but I wanted to save the money and do it myself, especially since I want to play around with tray placement (I have more room with the longer X2 chassis than with the X1 chassis)
I will take some pictures as I get the trays and rest of the vehicle worked out. |
Just paid John for my 8ight-E 2.0 chassis... now I just have to get my buggy back from my friend...
|
Quote:
What's your friend doing with your buggy? did you loan it to him to race? Can't wait to see some pictures of your Carbon Fiber Chassis. I'm going to start a new review thread for another carbon fiber chassis that's coming out. It's Insane Awesomeness! |
While I'm sure he'd love to borrow it to race, he's just doing the soldering for me and painting a body up for it; he's a much more skilled solderer than I am and used to paint RC box art as a second job and does a lot of my race paint schemes. I hope to order a new RCM motor mount this week too, though my old one seems to be working just fine. After that I have it about where I want it with the exception of the 10 degree spindle set, though I want to try out the current setup before I go that route since it adds a lot of steering.
|
After realizing the Jammin X2 center driveshafts, drive cups, and chassis braces would be $80-100 alone, I found a cheap X2 roller to use as donor parts and spares. As soon as it arrives I can get the Moos Racing CF chassis into action.
|
I got my 8ight-E chassis over the weekend. It had a few blems and bubbles that I wasn't terribly thrilled about, but they would be covered by my gear so it wasn't a huge deal, but there was also a spur gear hole cut into the chassis where the spur gear would be if I ran nitro. Since it's an 8ight-E 2.0 the spur is in a different place and any dust and dirt that would enter this hole is headed straight for the gears. I'm sending it back to Denmark and John is going to send me one without the holes. I'm hoping it comes back without the blems and bubbles as well, but we'll see. I'm sure it was probably just some air bubbles trapped in the resin that released after rolling around in a box truck for a few hours waiting to be delivered. Stiffness felt good though. The bottom looked perfect (I'm guessing the bottom is also the bottom of the mold) Either way its WAY light compared to the aluminum one. I'll try to make a weight comparison when I get the new one back.
|
Write John right away. Please.

MoosRacing Carbon Fiber Chassis Updates. Thank you simplechamp, great thinking :)
Quote:
That's awesome simplechamp, please take some pictures of putting everything onto your new carbon fiber MoosRacing chassis, once you're at that point. It would be awesome to see the chassis in the different stages of parts being screwed into and onto the chassis. I will also do this once I'm finished testing the new Matrix Concepts Inc. Carbon Fiber Chassis for the Hyper 9E. Have a great day, and please keep the great reviews coming in steady. And also this thread is for anyone running a carbon fiber chassis on their offroad RC. Everyone is welcome. |
