Altered's Stampede Project
Hey guys kinda new here to the forums but I have a Stampede project that I wanted to post up. It used to be a Slash but I really missed my Stampede so I decided to convert it back. Then the FLM bug struck me, I have had products from them on both my Maxx and Savvy so I knew the quality of the parts.
Well I made a order through Mike and my parts were here in 3 days, I actually had to pick up the bulkhead from another shop because it was not in stock. Anyways enough with the chit chat, I hope you like the pics:mdr: http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jy7Lk3vgmL4/TC...0/IMG_7670.JPG http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jy7Lk3vgmL4/TC...0/IMG_7672.JPG http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jy7Lk3vgmL4/TC...0/IMG_7674.JPG |
That setup with the tires and body look really good man. Nice wheels!
|
Thanks bro I was wonderin how this wheel and tire combo was going to look once I was able to get them mounted. I actually love it, kinda has a scale feel to it. Might have to try this out on my scale build just to see how it looks. I am already looking for another cheap pede...lol
|
It does look scale. Is the extended or regular lenght chassis?
|
This is the 1/8 Super Extended Chassis, here it is at Mikes store:

Well my camera took a crap, well the batteries died. I wanted to get some pics before I ran out of sun so I used my cell phone. I am now officially taking the plunge into lipos with my very first lipo pack
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jy7Lk3vgmL4/TC...M/s800/095.JPG Looks right at home in the FLM chassis: http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jy7Lk3vgmL4/TC...s/s800/098.JPG Makes me not want to paint the body now....lol http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jy7Lk3vgmL4/TC...4/s800/100.JPG |
That's the best looking stampede i've seen. Could you provide a link to the wheels and tires and explain how you mounted them? Thanks!
|
The wheels are the JConcepts Tense 2.2/3.0 wheels, the tires are HPI Maxxis Trepador tires. I didn't know they were scaled after 1:1 tires until now...lol. Learn something new everyday.

Started to get the body prepped for paint and put on the window masks. I am thinking that I will chrome the grill and toolbox and leave the bed clear. Other than that started to mask off a few lines then I had some other things to take care of today...hopefully will get to do more on it tomorrow. Here is the start of the paint work.......

Well I ran out of daylight today when it was time to spray so it made it a little more difficult to see the colors, plus I haven't done this in a while. Anyways I used faskolor and spazstix paints, then the one area that I used tamiya paint.....well lets say I wasn't at all happy with it. Lesson learned. There were some bleed throughs but hey all in all I think it came out good.....just a little rusty
I'll try to get some daytime pics tomorrow but for now these will do. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jy7Lk3vgmL4/TD...0/IMG_7691.JPG http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jy7Lk3vgmL4/TD...0/IMG_7690.JPG |
Looks great ! I love well done non-symetrical paint jobs.
|
Great looking truck and paint job. Eventually, treat all that FLM to a better esc and motor.....a Tekin sensored set up would be really sweet
|
Yeah I am not one to do a symetrical paint job, I think they lack character. I am actually having fun with this combo, mind you it is my first time with a BL and Lipos. I am not looking for insane speed, I just want a little but controllable chaos....lol.

Great Paint mang. One of the nicest Stampede's I've seen so far.

Thanx bro, I forgot to post the daytime pics that I said I would post. Better late than never:mdr:
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jy7Lk3vgmL4/TD...0/IMG_7706.JPG http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jy7Lk3vgmL4/TD...0/IMG_7708.JPG As of right now I am running a MM/4600 combo on 2S with 18/86. It seems to be running really well, but I am going to be getting some smaller pinions and see what happens. If anyone has got some suggestions feel free to post them up. |
Swap out the shocks... The plastic caps and bodies below out if you hit a speed bump...
Thats beast will be heavy with all the aluminum - look for some small bore front buggy shocks - OFNA LX-1... For the motor I'd be looking at something a little bigger - maybe a Short Course motor... |
Yeah I have been doing some research on shocks for this thing, been looking into some blue star ones off ebay. I have had them before and they seem to be pretty good. Even with all the aluminum, it is still lighter than a stocker, my old pede is owned by a friend of mine and it is completly stock and it feels like an anvil compared to mine...lol. What motor would you suggest? I like the speed on this one cause it is controllable. Not going to make speed runs or anything, just a bunch of bashing.

I'd suggest swapping out your spur at least to a 90 for lower gearing options. It gets kinda tough gearing super low, but the bigger spur will help some. I think you should be fine with a 15 or 16/90 setup. I'm sure the esc will handle it no sweat, motor may get hot, but probably not too bad. I don't think I could bring myself to bash that body, it looks great. Despite all the poor opinions on castle's motors, mine's (6900 in rustler) held up just fine after being subjected to nasty things repeatedly. Both esc and motor has seen 200+ degrees on a few occasions. You've got options with that setup for more low end or high end if you want it via gearing or more cells or both. I would opt for a mamba pro if I could do it all over again, if you like to creep around a bit and climb over stuff, sensored is the way to go for smooth transitions. My stampede currently houses a cheapy sensored AE esc and an old novak 13.5. Temps are always cool and the power is enough for what I want to use it for. Well, I would rather have my 10.5 X-11, but that didn't hold up to well with the rough ridin. I think the mamba motors are durable enough to take stampede abuse.

I have a 90 tooth spur at the moment, bought a whole bunch of different spurs and pinions to fool around with. With the 18/86 combo my motor was only getting up to 130 and the esc was barely warm. Batteries didn't even have a slight difference in temp though...which is a good thing...lol. I just have this truck to bash around with but nothing too extreme. We have a big grass field behind our complex, that is where we mostly play with our trucks. I am pretty happy with how the truck is running, it is fast but not crazy uncontrollable fast. I just bought a 3s pack from HobbyKing and it seems a bit too much for this truck, always seems to be puttin it on its lid so I will have to mess around with the gearing more. I just picked up a rustler since it was cheap so that will be another project that I will be working on, might try and go with the velineon combo for this one.....well have to see what comes into play. Thanks for the info though, always good to hear what everyone suggests.
