Motor Mount

hey guys,
really liking the elite rc motor mounts on here.

i currently use the RCM mount, witch is also very good, but looking to maintenance and the need to switch pinions for either racing or bashing very often, im looking into an ERC mount.

already emailed the guy, but no reply so far.

anyone knows when the mbx6 mount (with will fit my mbx5-t) be in stock again? or maybe some site i can also buy them?

would also apreciate if some one can explain if the angle on that mount has any disadvantages?

thx.

Gr Ron

bad juju lies here. They are one of mike's primary competitor.. I Would advice against it in respect for mike.

Arct1k 07.09.2010 12:06 PM

Mike is in the process of redesigning the motor mounts to use a single screw for adjustment...

I believe Brushlessboy16 has one for the 8...

It might be worth emailing mike or looking into the newer designs...

sounds interesting, im sorry if i offended mike in any way, but we can discuss it here right?

Sure, we can discuss Mike's new mounts!

Keep contacts and discuss with the other brand elsewhere. Mike owns and runs this beloved forums. We don't need to piss him off by talking about support for other main competitors.

thx for the pic!

brushlessboy16 07.09.2010 03:20 PM

It IS out :)

Arct1k 07.09.2010 03:42 PM

It is available - Mike I believe will be updating all mounts to this style as stock and time allows

Arct1k 07.09.2010 03:43 PM

Another member got this style of Mugen mount today in fact...

How is the motor mounted on the lower part?
I get the upper part, but not the lower one...

suicideneil 07.09.2010 05:15 PM

Voodoo magic.

The screw goes through the plastic spacer-type thing, and that goes into the larger bottom hole on the mount, then the screw tightens into the motor.

I think Mike needs to include a basic exploded diagram along with the photo of each mount in the store- Im seeing lots of confused people lately who cant figure it out through trial and error..

JoFreak 07.09.2010 05:20 PM

Well I figured something like that, and would probably have gotten to it if I actualy had one in my hands for trial and error.
But you are right, mike should probably add a exploded diagram, because I think there are a lot of people who don't buy this mount if they don't have a clue (and therefore a lack of confidence) on how this part works.

simplechamp 07.09.2010 08:17 PM

Sounds like they are being converted to the style Mike used on his Losi Ten-T mount, right?

I'll chat with mike about sending me a mount and will get some instructions written..

Nard Cox 07.10.2010 11:33 AM

Byte and me ordered our MBX6T conversion sets, hopefully it will contain the new style mount!!

I will post some pics when I get it.

My first RCM order, after 2 years of forum membership

Nard Cox 07.12.2010 02:45 PM

OK, we got the new style as well! But I'm having some troubles putting it together...

Where does the black spacer go and where does the silver one go. I have several screws left and have no idea where I should place them (going to take a pic now). A manual would be a ++. I'm also missing some screws (didn't have the original ones since I bought it as a roller with some missing parts / screw), adding all the necessary screws would be a big + :)

ps. Mike thanks for the friendly price, saved me a few bucks.

suicideneil 07.12.2010 02:49 PM

Black spacer at the bottom- screw goes though it & into the large bottom hole, then screws into the motor. Silver spacer goes at the top, screw goes through it & into the motor. To adust the mesh, you slacken the topscrew, swing the motor left or right, then re-tighten.*

* I believe.

Nard Cox 07.12.2010 03:10 PM

Neil ... than I did it right, just added some pics of how I have it. But I have no idea what to do with the three screws shown :)

Arct1k 07.12.2010 03:25 PM

Spares for anyone with a motor that uses 4mm threads... Mike says he includes them to...

JoFreak 07.12.2010 03:29 PM

But why countersunk spares?
One of the countersunk seems to be M3, and nard didn't use it with his M3 threaded motor.

ronnyboy 07.12.2010 04:39 PM

hmmm... i don't really see that much difference, the screw is still not accesible with my straight tools, and have to use those angled ones on this one again.

to stay OT: personally liked it better with a screw on top. but Mike, great work nontheless.
keep it up!

Nard Cox 07.12.2010 06:05 PM

The difference is in the fact that you only have to loosen one single screw to set the mesh instead of 2 screws ;)

You still need an L-shaped wrench, but that's not really an issue for me (altough a screw on top would be slighty easier).

ZippyBasher 07.12.2010 10:04 PM

So the bottom screw is not actually tightening the motor to the mount? Meaning, if you took the top screw out, would the motor be able to come free? If so, That means the motor is held by one screw only??? Can someone clarify?

rootar 07.13.2010 03:07 AM

correct

Nard Cox 07.13.2010 05:49 AM

Yes, that's the thing that is kinda freakin' me out a little. Since there is some play between the spacer thingy and the mount the motor can move around a bit. I'm thinking about putting a washer/spacer between??

suicideneil 07.13.2010 02:02 PM

I believe Mike said thats fine to do in the ten-t thread ( where this design originated ).

Rebelgium 07.14.2010 12:13 PM

It can't be fine to have play in a motor mount...

rootar 07.14.2010 01:56 PM

you guys lost me what play are you talking about? what would a washer do?

suicideneil 07.14.2010 07:33 PM

A washer between the screw head and the mount. spacer would tighten/ pull the bottom of the motor into the mount, effectively making it like a normal mount that uses two bolts to hold the motor in place ( like an emaxx motor mount ). Otherwise, the bottom is just a pivot point, the motor isnt actually fixed to the mount as such. I think a small bearing would be better than a plastic spacer- zero slop or play in the bottom of the mount- a flanged bearing would be even better come to think of it..

brushlessboy16 07.15.2010 06:19 PM

Before you guys go bashing the mount take the time to assemble it correctly.

The black peice thats steel is what the countersunk screw sits in for the bottom hole and is a machined fit. very nice tolerances.. the top slot in the motor mount is designed for an m3 or m4 screw, when using an m3 screw you use the aluminum spacer over the screw and it sits where the head of the m4 screw would be... the mount has no flex in it once the one top screw is tightened down,

suicideneil 07.15.2010 06:33 PM

Huh, I thought the bottom part was plastic, based on what people were saying about its construction/ fitment. If its steel & machined to fit then there should be no need to worry..

brushlessboy16 07.15.2010 06:43 PM

the one I have seems to be steel, its definitely not plastic

Krawlin 07.15.2010 09:04 PM

It doesn't look like there is any kind of machined lip on that lower hole to keep that steel countersunk washer from going all the way through.....

So if you remove the top screw completely, will the motor just come out of the mount with that lower screw/steel countersunk washer?
