Associated TC5-R build

Just finished the build, I love kits. I wished more Co's would do kits and they don't always have to be the higher end stuff either. I't would be great to buy a Slash or somthing in kit form, save some money and experience the complexities of these awesome little cars/trucks.

As usual, AE build instructions are pretty good. I had only a couple small problems and they were easily remedied by rereading the instructions a few times.

Here's the shocks, they are redesigned for the TC5. Personally, I think the TC4 style are better and def easier to build. They are designed with a "rebound foam", one disc goes into the bladder and a small barrel shaped one inside the cap. It was next to impossible to get all that in the shock and not have air bubbles or spill oil all over. A quick reference to the option/set-up sheet I found these were left out for my application, so I was very happy to see that because they are a PITA !

The diffs were very easy to assemble, typical ball diff for AE nothing new here. The front one was intended as a spool so assembly was even easier due to no ball bearings but with a white pad made of some sort of plastic and locked down tight.

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...R/P7230004.jpg

CVD's were a cinch also, AE has a spring steel clip/band that covers the pins. So if the grub screw comes loose the pin will not be ejected.

Everyones favorite thing, *$%#@ Turnbuckles

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...R/P7230008.jpg

Bell crank steering assembly. Doesn't look like much, but when the car is together and this in sandwiched between the lower and upper plate it's stout and is very smooth.

The Carbon/Graphite chassis pieces and towers. Very High qaulity looking stuff.

I've been wanting to build one of these... so I'll be watching this thread and asking a lot of questions:lol:

With it being a Little TC and space being in short supply I decided to shorten all the wires.

It takes guts to open and solder wires on a new $80.00 servo. One thing I noticed that I didn't like with this Spektrum Servo is that were the wires are soldered to the board is more inside the servo instead of being more accesable like the JR's. So rather than desoldering the wires form the board I chose to cut then instead. Not as neat as I would have liked but it suites the purpose.

I decided to mount the RX on top of the servo and made a antenna mount.

Shortened wire for the MMPro also.

Heres everything intalled, I still have to align all 4 tires yet and test drive it. Maybe later today after HoneyDoo's. My first Oval race is Monday night and I have yet to receive the body I ordered from RC-Boys, I guess I'll have to use what I have on hand ?

I never noticed till you mentioned it, Doh!

Bondonutz 07.25.2010 01:48 PM

In case anyone is wondering I chose the TRX BL motor, it's due to the track being very short (70' straights), so the avaible torque and no need for high RPMs I felt it was a good choice.

Also, when the need for speed hits I can drop in a 3s and probably not regear for some blazing speed runs.

AMorgan 07.25.2010 02:48 PM

Lol, busted. Looks like a great build though. I've always wanted to build one of those.

Isn't that where Tim "I think I invented the jump-pass" Elbow went? What a tool bag!

Very nice build there Bondo!! I like the kit and the tidying up of wires. very clean assembly!

DCastaneda 07.26.2010 12:01 PM

A bunch of Gator haters on here I see. What did Tebow ever do other than be a well-rounded player? Oh well when you're on top people will envy.

reno911 07.26.2010 12:10 PM

That is one ludicrously nice touring car for dirt oval. Nice build. Looks enjoyable. I could never justify getting a touring. They look so damn nice, but that is what bald tires on a buggy are for.

Don't run that car on the pavement. There all most finished with the indoor carpet track in plant city. They are going to have indoor road & offroad & i belive oval tracks, all on carpet. There is info on this facility on rctech in the FL thread.

Great build, what are your plans for the body?

Remember Real men munch carpet & not Aspahlt . You can bust my chops all you want, because thats the only exercise you get :na::lol:.

Bondonutz 07.27.2010 04:20 PM

There no guessing what you've had in your mouth over the years ?

I just happen to have a body that doesn't require much excercise to maintain it, I can just tear the lid off a can of beer and chug and I'm like Popeye. Que theme song.

When that PlantCity place opens it's gonna hurt the Monday night races at Quaker Steak and Lube. There was quite a few people out there last night. Nobody really started showing until 8:30 or so. The first race didn't start till 8pm, we ran a open class of a mix of bombers,2wd Slashes and me w/the TC5. Beleive it or not I had the hardest time getting around that track with the shizz tires I had(Imex garbage). Gonna order some Jacos this week and get my new bodie painted.

We dont even know what nights they are going to run.

Bondonutz 07.27.2010 05:47 PM

I realize that but I still forsee that if folks want to make one showing a week more than likely it'll be PlantCity ? The people I'm refering to are the more serious racers, the GS&L seems like it'll attract the noobs and shleps like me whom are more less "bashing".
I thinking outloud and hope I'm wrong, it's happened befor ?

rchippie 07.27.2010 06:57 PM

I much prefer racing on carpet versus asphalt, i think you would to if you were to try it. It's cleaner, cooler, & your foam tires last alot longer.

Bondonutz 07.27.2010 07:32 PM

A/C + Fat Guy = Happy Fat Guy

I'm gonna go to a few races at QS&L, if I decide to pursue this more I'm def gonna go check that place out. I'm afraid this might be more of a phase I'm going through, want to make sure first. I was heavy into TC years back at B&B and it just slowly wore off and I gravitated to off road instead. I like to jump the RC's more than anything.

I prefer pan cars instead of tourings cars. They are fast enough & cheaper. I run a CRC wgt car with a 13.5 on 1s lipo, with Jaco Lilac foam tires..

BlackedOutREVO 07.28.2010 10:14 PM

Ahhh nice fresh cars always look so pretty! Looks good!

And TC is where its at, off road and jumps is fun but theres nothing like a fast pace door to door battle with 5-6 guys in a race. Pan cars are super fun too! I want a 12th scale again now that we can run lipo in them

Nice choice with CRC. CRC is actually my home track. The guys there are amazing racers and are willing to help.

Bondonutz 08.05.2010 07:22 PM

Finially a Painted Body ! ! !

I've ordered a few sets of foams and rubber "knock-offs" for the oval track. Anything will be better than the junky Imex shiz tires I bought. LOL

The hood scoop is off-centered due to the electronics lay out, kinda reminds me of the older SVO 4cyl Turbo Mousestangs.

I used Automotive Urethane Basecoat, Adheres like gangbusters !

I'll do my best to get some video next Monday night.

Schwizzle!

Bondonutz 08.05.2010 09:03 PM

Wow, Thank You brother ! Glad you like it, I appreciate the nice compliment.

I feel much the same about your home built MT, looking to see more of it !

Nice scoop!

You won't miss that Imex crap

magman 08.06.2010 06:24 PM

Sweet ride Jeff...I always wanted a t/c for p-lot bashing, but with no one else around me interested, haven't pulled the trigger. Gets boring after a while racing by yourself
