My final Lipo choices for Flux. What say you?

Ok after spending way too much time going through Hobbking, trying to decipher all the menus and crap AND what actually was in stock, this is what I found that seemed like it work work well.

Do I go all out and get the new nanotech turnigys and go for the insane 6S power that i've never experienced before?
http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...dProduct=11939

Or do I play it a bit safer/cheaper and get non nanotech with just 4S which im familiar with?
http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...dProduct=10277

Or do I get this 6S non-nanotech Turnigy from the USA with higher C output?
http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...dProduct=12936

I guess im stuck ordering from across the sea as the USA warehouses have squat in stock, so i'm gonna have to pay arm and leg for shipping. How long does this EMS Express to USA shipping take anyway? Or should I just wait to get something better in like these?

If you are happy with 4s I would stick with 4s. People are eating up flux trannys left and right on 6s.

You've got the right idea, any of the choices you are looking at would be adequate.

if i were you, i would just get the normal shipping for now and just wait it out. there is a major dilemma with shipping lipos through hong kong right now, which means shipping times are a little longer and it can be a pain but it is worth it.

the 30c hardcase packs you picked are only a few bucks cheaper than the 40c version. i have the 30c version and they are incredible packs, so the 40c should be even better.

if i were you, i would get the nano-tech 3s packs and gear your truck 18/47. that's what i run my flux at on 6s and it is a very cool running setup that has great runtimes and better speed than stock on 4s, but at the same time, the motor runs nice and cool and the batteries are less stressed.

i'm sure your flux experience will be a lot better with better batteries and duel chargers. it will take about 80 minutes to fully charge those 3s packs, but it will be well worth the wait.

one more thing, about the chargers, there are much better options that will allow you to charge your batteries in 40 minutes or less and it won't cost much more. all you will have to do though is get a power supply and more capable chargers. it is not difficult at all and you will thank me once you get it set up. also, you will only need 1 wall outlet for both chargers.

here's what you should get: two of these and one of these. you will only need one for both chargers. you will be able to charge both of your 2s or 3s packs at 10a each.

There outa stock for the 40C or I woulda gotten them and I can't wait two weeks, I have no patience.

PBO 07.30.2010 03:32 AM

No Maxamps lego cells?

Freezebyte 07.30.2010 03:33 AM

PBO, WTF is your avatar of, its disturbing

And no maxcraps

Freezebyte 07.30.2010 04:18 AM

Safe gearing for 6S on Flux?

EDIT: New thread

PBO 07.30.2010 05:26 AM

I have no idea...I thought it looked interesting. Like the little guy knows too much and his head pops off? I get avatar envy when I'm on RCM

UPS is a couple of days from HK, if you don't mind the extra cost? FWIW, I generally favour 4S bashing/jumping & keep the 6S for speed runs or wide open spaces

nitrostarter 07.30.2010 08:04 AM

I think if you look back in your original thread about getting another Flux, linc gave you the suggestions to go 6s and a gearing choice...

Harold, where the heck are you getting your info from. I can't recall the last time I saw a post about someone eating up a Flux tranny.

My first Flux did have plenty of go with 2S 6000mAh 28C SMC but now I wanna see first hand what 6S is like on this bad boy. After much research and forum searching, im aware that dropping the pinion gear down a few teeth will help reduce strain on the Lipos and reduce heat on the ESC and motor.

I plan on getting either one of these for 6S power. Any input?

Should I change my stock gearing from the 20/44 and go to 18/44 or should I go even lower? I wanna be able to still go faster then 4S at 20/44 but I don't wanna blow my ESC either cause I will be driving in variety of conditions while bashing and jumping.

Thanks all for your input and patience my last few threads, I just want to make an informed decison

Get the Nano tech one. Why, cheaper. But really, you probably wont notice the difference if you bought both of them. The 30C is actually more than enough for the truck - especially for bashing.

nitrostarter 07.30.2010 10:14 AM

Might have to watch the dimensions on the nanotech packs. They are typically longer packs.

then again I can't recall the dimensions of the Savage battery boxes.

reno911 07.30.2010 10:46 AM

I would go with the Nanos.

If ordering from hobbyking look into there chargers. They have similar chargers to the Hobbypartz at a better price. Since the shipping is outrageous make it worth it.

Why don't you try 5s? It''s right in the middle.

I dunno how to do that

Finnster 07.30.2010 10:58 AM

Buy one 3S pack and one 2S pack. I would do this

The Flux trays are quite long. My SMC 6K's fit with room to spare, and those are long packs too.

How the hell would I wire that?

Arct1k 07.30.2010 11:21 AM

in series as the same as any other 2 packs...

reno911 07.30.2010 01:14 PM

Alright now give the guy a break. Geeze.

Now I am scared to ask a question on here.

Save that crap for the Traxxas forum.

Nothing wrong with being a concerned shopper.

Keep this up and there will be one less individual in the hobby.

Freezebyte 07.30.2010 04:39 PM

To keep costs down while trying these new and somewhat risky turnigys, I decided just to get a pair of these to start with. If I do or don't like them or I want more power from 6s, i'll go from there and won't be out much money.

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...dProduct=10277

I've got stuff coming from my LHS, Amain hobbies, Hobbyparts, Hobbyking, Team TCS and Bad horsie to start work on "Frostbyte II" I spent a bunch of money this morning, I love pay day!

nitrostarter 07.30.2010 04:45 PM

Can you solder? Since these packs come with 5.5mm bullets and the Flux esc will have Deans on it.

Freezebyte 07.30.2010 08:14 PM

I'm letting the LHS do that for me

i used to have the hobby store do all my soldering, because i couldn't do it very well. then, i found out that flux helps a ton and since i got some flux and a better iron, my soldering is near perfect and 8awg is nothing now.
there are also a few soldering videos that i watched that helped too.

back on subject, those are the exact lipos that i run in my flux when i run 4s and they have been great. they usually take the full 5200-5400 back even with my lvc set at 3.4v. these batteries along with most newer, lower resistance packs like a higher cutoff such as 3.4v/cell or even 3.5.

Freezebyte 07.30.2010 11:53 PM

Yeah, i'll be sticking with 3.5v cutoff after learning my lesson the hard/expensive way with my SMC's

well, if you stick with stock gearing and avoid giant tires, those batteries should last you muuuch longer than both sets of those POS SMC lipos. i have 4 of them and they are all still going strong after about 8 months. my truggy stresses batteries a lot more than my flux and they are fine in my truggy and don't break a sweat in the flux. you are good to go!:yipi:

lincpimp 07.31.2010 11:45 AM

I am interested to see how those hardcase lipos do... Seem like a great price if the hold up as well as scarletboa (which is a quite gay username) says they do.

Freezebyte 07.31.2010 02:20 PM

I'll be sure to make a new thread and post my impression of them. I thought about getting four, but I wanted to keep it simple and cheap for my first purchase of turnigys through hobbyking, just to see if im happy with the results.

sorry to let you and harold down, but i don't swing that way

i admit, my username kinda sucks, but i named it after a pet boa constrictor named scarlet, hence the name, scarletboa. i've been using that username for everything for the past 5 or 6 years.

i've been wanting to change my username for a while.....if any mods can help..

I'll second that.

Freezebyte 08.03.2010 01:44 PM

I know how to solder, I just don't have the right solder gun for the job and I don't wanna spend the money or chance ruining my lipos if I fark it up. Plus, im impatient

BrianG 08.03.2010 03:32 PM

That's good. Sometimes it's better to know your limitations than to risk burning cash.

And "soldering is fun"?? Really? I don't mind it, but it's just a means to an end for me. Kinda like making a sandwich; I don't mind making it, but if it's the only reasonable way to get one, I'll do it.

What's_nitro? 08.03.2010 03:50 PM

Can I add "working" to that analogy? :mdr:

That's it reno, you're next. Freeze has become our whipping boy, but only because he sticks around and takes it.

He's a good sport, and loves to learn like the rest of us. If we rip on ya, we like ya, or we like ripping on ya.
