Lightning Stadium Pro shock question
I picked up a nice Lightning Stadium pro roller and have it going well brushelss but the shocks are blown. Rather than find a rebuild kit for them are there any better shocks that are a direct fit that anyone knows of? Thanks.
|
How long are the shocks front and rear?
|
The Aluminum Purple capped HotBodies shocks are of excellent qaulity and are definitely worth the small expense and time rebuilding IMO.
Rebuild kits for these shocks can be found despite being discontinued. Go to Hotbodies site and get the part number for your application and do a search on Ebay and google. I'll bet you can rebuild all 4 shocks like new parts and S&H for under $20.00 easy. If you have the shocks that are half plastic and half aluminum capped then replacement might be best. All you need is roughly the same over all lenth and look at Ofna, Losi, Associated etc for what you think is best for your budget and needs. Good Luck |
the hot bodies shocks are great, no reason to change them
|
they are non adjustable gray aluminum with purple caps. I guess they are the stock ones then? I shall see if I can find a rebuild kit. I do not see the part number on the HB site though.
|
look on amain, they use the same rebuild as gs racing
|
What weight oil should I use for bashing when I rebuild the shocks?
|
damn its confusing to find the right rebuild kit for these. There are the lightning stadium pro, the lightning pro, the pro 2 of each and now the 10th scale version of each. Some list part numbers some dont, you cant tell by looking at the pictures of the shock shafts and parts which are correct?
|
Please post EXACTLY what model you have, I know the HB site well and can help but need info to do it.
Couple pics might help as well. |
I can post many pics. I bought it used though and have no other information on it.
|
Just a decent over all pic is needed

Great news for you, Looks like you have a "Lightning Stadium Pro2"
Fab truck !!! I have one myself. These are the first generation Truggys, this is obvisously the second version of this truck but this is where the "Truggy" classes started. You own a small piece of RC History so to speak. The 2nd Gen/Pro 2 has lots of features the first did not. Carbon fiber pieces, cnc'd fron and rear hubs and I think hardened diff gears was standard ? I'm sure a few more things but they escape me. This is your truck http://www.hotbodiesonline.com/kit.p...b66200&lang=en Heres the part # HBC8107-2 http://www.hotbodiesonline.com/produ...hbc8107-2.html Dont let the term "rear shock rebuild kit", they are the same as the rear lightning buggy shocks. I looked on ebay and googled and unfortunately did'nt find anything right away, it doesn't mean they aren't availible. Be patient and look around some, I will myself. If the rebuild kits are obtainable and be found at a good price these shocks are def worth spending the $$ on. They are very stout and work well, if the shock body insides are not worn they will last a very long time and provide excellent service. |
Never thought to ask, you here in the states ?
HB parts are very readily availible across the pond, they love these things over there ? |
I live in the states. Near Detroit unfortunately. I thought the guy I bought it from told me it was a lightning stadium pro but he added some parts to make it like a version 2 but either way I like the truck but the shocks have no rebound and it rides a little bit too low. I found these on Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/HOT-BODIES-C8107...item3f00632db8 So I just order 2 sets of the "rears"?? Hopefully this will fix them right up! Also right now im running a 14 tooth pinion with a 2250 motor on 4 cell A123's. It moves pretty good but Im thinking of upping the pinion a few teeth. What do most people run for their pinion with this setup? |
I was going to look in Hopmeup, glad you found them. Start off with 40wt oil. I can't remember if the red springs are extra firm or soft ? Check the HB website to varify. Get the black springs, they are a great general use spring especially with 35-40wt.
The shocks are a little bit of a PITA to rebuild entirely with that tiny clip on the bottom, dont temps yourself to short cut it, Replace everything included in kit. If you have any problems w/assembly refer to the build sheets on the HB site, everything you need is there. Your temps will dictate weither moving up in gearing is OK, I'm not fimiliar with your ESC/Motor combo. If you decide on a new pinion The RCMonster has the BEST pinions on the market. Hope it works well for you. |
Well they only have 2 in stock so soon as I find 2 more I will order them and some oil and springs and do the rebuild. The motor and ESC do not even get warm geared with the 14t pinion :)

I'm not saying you have to have the springs. You want to retry the reds sinces the shocks with be as good as new after rebuilding them, they may suit you just fine ? I jsut have no idea how firm they are. Good luck and report back/post when you have some results |
A year later I orderd the rebuild kits. Now that I have taken the shock off not sure its blown. Had oil in it and didnt leak. THe front sags though. Need to stiffen them up some when I rebuild them.
