Slash 4x4 Asphault Oval Racer
I'd thought I'd share this with you guys, Here at our local Chicken wing restaurant "Quaker Steak and Lube" on Monday nights we have asphault oval races. There are several classes including "Super Trucks" TC's with Nastruck bodies 3500kv 2s max, Slash Class (which is what I mainly run) It's basically
2wd & 4wd Slashes 3500kv,3s max with Foam tires and Dirt Oval bodys. It's a real smash and bash class, lots of fun ! And finially 1/8scale GT classes. The track is pretty small, 80'x50' lap counter and the whole deal. I'm going out tonight if I can I'll get some video or get someone to take some via my camera. My set up is a PE Slash, 3s, NEU 1509 2Y 1820kv, M.M.M. I've done a lot to get the ride height down, shock limiters(fuel tubeing) 45wt oil, RS super firm springs and a modded RPM front bumper to hopefully get some life out of the new body. I installed FLM arms and found aluminum nerf bars on Fleabay. Only running a fan due to the body not having any holes, motor got up to 160degrees last race. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...r/P9190005.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...r/P9190006.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...r/P9190007.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...r/P9190008.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...r/P9190009.jpg As you see it sits very low indeed ! http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...r/P9190010.jpg |
Pretty nice paint mang.

Thank You Snell
It's Automotive Urethane BaseCoat, sticks like gangbusters. |
Sweet ride - i like it
|
Nice! the 4x4 Slash is a versatile platform, good for most flavours of RC...good for speed runs too

+1 Good Job man. That body looks pretty badass. With the Silver Top, and square lines, it resembles a Classic Muscle Car... Almost Duke of Hazard LOL, glad you didnt go orange...
Seriously tho I like it. Nice job. My father and I just slammed our 1/8 buggies for street and got some Inferno GT Bodies. I actually used a L8ight Bumper Mount and Foam. I will have to show him those pics... |
Jeff what tires are you specifically using? Paint looks great!

No video from last night, I tried but it just to dark. The lighting is pretty dang bad over there, wishing I painted this body with some lighter colors like the last one but at least mines the only one solid blue so it helps. My eyes aint what they used to be LOL. I did however kick some major ass last night ! I won both my heats, the first by 11-laps and the second by 8-laps and won the A-main (not sure but I think by 1-lap?). My first ever across the board win, I will post race results when they are availible sometime today. |

http://www.automotivetouchup.com/auto_paint.asp Does it go on firsts, then yer Polycarb over top of that? |
Yes the same thing, it's the same stuff thats on your Exploder at home.
I do not put a coat of clear over it though, I used to think it needed it, one day I didn't feel like mixing any up and it didn't make a difference so I never did clear coat them again. Since I'm not applying this paint to a 1:1 car I also save money by useing reg laquer thinner to thin the paint. The Usual mix ratio is 1 to 1 I reduce it much more since the paint covers so well. And Jason please bare in mind I dont go to the automotive paint store and buy a pint when I need to spray a body, I have 2 large boxes filled with pints cans left over from all the side jobs I've done over the years and swiped from employers. I've ben fortunate to have spent very little on RC paint the last 10yrs. I wouldn't recomend you buy a pint of paint unless you really like that particlar color, because a pint will yield a Qt and a half of sprayable material. Thats more than enough to shoot 15-20 bodys. If you go this route find a habor Frieght and Tool and buy a miniture Gravity spray gun, this little cheapie is what I use: http://www.harborfreight.com/adjusta...gun-92126.html |
I have a HF near my house. Do you know how many times I've held that very one in my hands thinking about buying it? But I pass everytime because I'm not sure how to use one, or if that one is good, etc. I have no doubt that I would be able to do a decent job using one. I just don't know HOW to use one. Gravity fed... so.. that means what? I hook it up to my air compressor, dial down the pressure, and spray?
That also makes me wonder... what about a Wagoner House Painting type spray gun? I have one, NIB that is nice, and I've never used. I think you can dial down the pressure. Would one of those work? j |

Gravity fed basically means the gun uses Gravity to get the material to the head to be atomized. The normal guns you see are pressure fed, the cup on top saves materials because the higher pressures aren't needed and wasted paint goes into the air. |
Wow bondo,I have worked in my dads body shop my whole life using PPG paint and I never knew it stuck to lexan! I'm definately going to try this with some left over candy pearl red from a mustang we did, should look bad ass!--josh

Great job J . BTW watcha think about the JACOS on my TEN?
|
Thanks B !
They'd look and handle great on a 10 ! I wish I could get some video, these foams let the truck take incredible turns at speed, but wear fast depending how rough the durface is your running on. If they wear fast you may think twice about buying a second pair at nearly $30.00 each pr. You'd also have to becareful with not having a slipper clutch and hogging out the 12mm hub. |
