Zippy Basher's Rides

Well I thought I would start a thread after 2 years of barely posting. This will be an ongoing thread with updates and videos as I can get around to it. PROPS to those who can actually keep an updated thread rolling. I really enjoy them and Thought I should pitch in my share...

You can easily see my rides down below in my Signature. Well Pics I got, because everyone knows that a good thread has good pics. To start are:

Here is my old Rustler that I beat to hell and upgraded to no end before I realized the benefit of 4wd. So after a year of the rustler sitting and me making my GF tag along on bash sessions. Of course, she always ask to drive for a bit, I decided it was time to dedicate the rustler to her... here it is sitting now. Almost ready to roll. It can be used, but with the stock Traxxas radio, it glitches and cogs so badly. It is un-usable. So I will be getting the HK $30 2.4gh Radio for her.
It has FLM Extended chassis, EXT. Arms Front and Rear, C-Hubs. RPM Shock Towers. 20Kg-Cm MG Servo. Raze Wing mount. Mugen wing. 3905 E-Maxx Body. 2.2" Masher 2000's Stretched onto 3.0" Proline 30 series rims. Traxxas BB Shocks /w hard springs special mounted in the rear to lay down farther. MM Velineon and 3s Zippy 4900. YEAH A HANDFUL FOR HER. She will need a lot of practice. (My GF)
Also A great 1/8" 7075 Custom motor Shield
More to come on my Rides...:rules:

ZippyBasher 10.06.2010 11:56 PM

Well Finally got a chance to update on here and of course keep the thread alive (I Hope) with some pics. Well I've bought the $33 shipped 2.4ghz Radio for my GF from Hobbypartz.com (GREAT Deal, if it works well). And we will be bashing this weekend after some fishing LOL

Anyway, here are some shots of my basher Maxx. She is finally getting around to being able to go a few packs without busting...

I've got some: FLM Chassis RPM Upper arms FLM Lower arms, Traxxas CVDs, LST2 Diffs, UE Towers (Braced in rear, also setup for wing if need be) MMM-1520, 6s Turnigy 5k, mounted below chassis with custom center skid to protect batteries, also FLM Skid. Custom rear toe links from 1/8 buggy. 17mm hex, steel washers, for shocks I have 4 RC8 fronts and 4 OFNA Rears with UE Springs. HCR Ti Skids w/ RPm covers. Hitec 7950TH Servo And GH Steering Setup. Maybe more...

Pics: First Thanks Castle! GREAT SALE!!! This 1520 is HUGE compared to the Medusa 36-70-1600 (Medusa never broke 155* but it'll be a backup).

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4912.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4912.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

My Sponsor! Mr. Beer! :

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4913.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4913.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I've setup the suspension about as maxed out as possible. But with pretty soft springs, It weighs about 12.5 pounds depending on tire combo. So it sits nice and level sitting down; Sags on take off, but takes the bumps very well even at 30mph...

Also I have installed LX-1E Rear upper arms with Lunsford Ti turnbuckles. Broke about 15-20 Stock Rod ends and not one of these yet....

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4915.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4915.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Me and my GF's Bashers...

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4916.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4916.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> :yes::party::smile:

ZippyBasher 10.07.2010 12:25 AM

Next on the list is the BUGGY! The best handling of the bunch and I think most versatile. Lowered For Street and Jack the Suspension and it gets more air than the MAXX!!! Here she sits now, all setup for On-Road bashing.

Me and My dad setup our 1/8 Buggies for Road Bashing (Rashing>???). With the CD PACKED with 10k it gets this sucker drifting quite well...

I've added a L8ight Front bumper and Foam, A Stampede Rear body mount, mounted on the wing mount. Setup is a Mamba Max (old school Edition ) 4s Turnigy 40c and CCNeu 2650kv, 14-43 gearing. GRP Rally for street tires...

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4918.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4918.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

As you can see I've braced the RCM Mount with 1/4" 6065 tubing, because I hit a curb so hard and actually bent the mount pretty badly, Just put it in the Vice and made it somewhat back to normal. Braced it because I fear its weaker now...

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4920.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4920.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

My Dad and Myself bought some Inferno GT Bodies. He Bought the 350z and I bought the WRX.. It makes it so much more fun watching these things scream by at 45-60mph. Just Realistic watching the body roll a bit into the drifts...

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4921.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4921.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

brainanator 10.21.2010 10:24 PM

everything looks pretty darned nice :) street buggy looks like fun too

lincpimp 10.21.2010 11:28 PM

That street buggy is badass. I have a streched 1/8 buggy that is setup for the street, need to get it rolling again...

And if you experiment with rx placement you can make am work fine with bl... 2.4ghz is much better, of course.

ZippyBasher 10.22.2010 01:36 AM

:mdr: Thank You! I appreciate it! I will get some pics of my dads buggy tomorrow or saturday. The Gt Bodies are worth the time & $; thats for sure... But they are kinda thin so you gotta get a tube of shoe goo to reinforce the weak spots from the get go.

As promised in another post, here is my Maxx Skid Plate. VERY Simple: 7075 1/8" inspired by a CF/FLM Build I saw here about 2 years ago. Although the bottom is just a skid and I strap the batts to the bottom of the chassis.

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4948.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4948.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4953.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4953.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4954.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4954.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4955.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4955.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Just using the holes tapped from the FLM Chassis, Used 40mm - 3mm and 4mm screws and lock nuts to keep it from bending. wrap it in foam, and done.

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4949.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4949.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4950.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4950.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Only thing I need is to get that motor lower. Possible CD when $ presents itself. Also, These are my favorite tires, Zombie Maxx. I Stretched them onto so Rulux HalfUps with some Ofna Soft MT Foams. They are about 2 years old and at least 50% tread left and they are SOFT compound.

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4956.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4956.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4959.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4959.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_4961.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_4961.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Kcaz25 10.22.2010 11:37 AM

Looks great! Where is your servo?

The tire and wheel combo look great!

ZippyBasher 10.22.2010 12:20 PM

Thank You! Servo had to be repaired. It sits in the normal spot.

I really like stretching MT tires onto the Half ups. It really cuts down on the sidewall flex. The foams dont get shifted inside as easy either....

Kcaz25 10.22.2010 12:23 PM

I like your wing mount as well. Great Idea. Doesn't look to hard.

ZippyBasher 10.22.2010 12:29 PM

Its pretty much a copy of a rear tekno wing mount. 1/8" 7075-t6. Two pieces sandwich the tower

I just leave it on there cause I actually bent the Knucklehead a little bit...

It will take a serious beating now...

Kcaz25 10.22.2010 03:16 PM

How did you bend it? I've never heard of that happening. You must have landing a backflip on the tower with the body off.

ZippyBasher 10.22.2010 05:21 PM

It sounds wierd but, I think it was because I had too long of body posts in the rear. It only bent near the "Arm" or "shoulder" of the tower. (Where the Body posts go). And not badly bent, just enough for the body to not line up correctly. I have a bug body, so the roof is round and then having the posts sticking up too high, they caught the ground when I would slide on the lid...

Problem solved itself, Posts shaved themselves down to sit flush with the body. The Body just kind of snaps into place and I dont need rear body clips anymore! :mdr:

ZippyBasher 11.12.2010 01:03 AM

Here are some shots of my dads buggy. I have been asked for pics of his car on a couple other posts... He has an LX-1E and ordered GTP Body mount kit and GTP front bumper and Foam. And of Course GRP tires and an Inferno GT Body: 350Z So much fun!!! He has 5s on the 2650 and it is FAST!

^^ The LX I have been helping my Brother in law build... Still a work in progress... Its got a 1518 in there!

magman 11.12.2010 04:26 PM

You and your Dad's on road cars look a lot like my on road conversion...mine is a MBX-5 running a 2200 cc motor on 5s. I actually have added Revo shocks front and rear to stiffen suspension conciderably..just not pictured

Is that an Aston Martin body? Its looks like the new camaro... Looks Real nice though!

I almost bought some revo shocks to throw on the front of the car, then put the front shocks in the rear... But the same zip-ties have been holding up for 2 months now and they are only $.04

Honestly did not pay much attention to the body style when I got it. Had the same set up w/the zip ties...but stumbled across the Revo shocks on another forum for $ 15- shipped so I could not pass it up

ZippyBasher 11.12.2010 10:28 PM

Is that an Ofna GTP bumper on the MBX? Also those body mounts are very nice! they must help hold the body up great!

Mine seem kinda weak, but the car has cartwheeled and tumbled at high speed and its held up perfectly, especially for Maxx and stampede body posts. My dads GTP posts actually broke quite frequently. ( but he did hit a curb at 3/4 throttle and his car litteraly flew 10-12' up and a good 20' out before rolling like crazy! It was quite a site!) he needs to get another set...
Looking again, I really like that body and paint scheme you have! Cheers!

Thanks for the kind words. The body posts do hold up well. As far as the paint goes....it was done by a member here whom I will not name due to the fact of other multiple members having issues with him. In fairness, he did a great job on the body.

ZippyBasher 11.12.2010 11:03 PM

awww, I recall... Looks good regardless the timeframe....

ZippyBasher 11.19.2010 02:20 AM

So I got a MonoBlock from UE. UPS Sucks now. Took a week in there hands. It did need a bit of Finessing with the dremel but nothing major...

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_5032.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_5032.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Anyway, I thought the LST2 CVD would fit but as it turned out, it barely sat in the tranny side drive cup. So, no way I'd run it. I measured and came up with about 140mm or so and I just ordered the Savage XL Rear dogbone which was 142mm. Well I used the FLM cups for the tranny side and MGT Cups on my LST diffs. AND It fits PERFECT!

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_5033.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_5033.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Fits Snug no play, couldnt be better. If you have an FLM 3905 chassis and Monoblock this is a great solution. $7.50 shipped on Ebay.

SO, Here is where the first run ended. I slid sideways on some very loose dirt. Slid into a small "ditch" made by some recent rain and it may have been a curb because it bent the Hell out of the FLM lower arm. I have RPM uppers and maybe this would be better with FLM uppers too. I have been using this combo now for about 10 months or so and I didnt think I was going too fast. Maybe its just one of those things.... Look at this carnage at least its only a $7.00 fix...

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_5034.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_5034.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_5035.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_5035.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&current=100_5036.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_5036.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

:surprised:

Kcaz25 11.19.2010 04:01 PM

Yeah pretty tough. Good thing your shocks didn't bend. Did it bend your CVD?

I'm glad you found a dog bone that would work.

ZippyBasher 11.19.2010 04:07 PM

It may have bent the CVD, the wheel was wobbling pretty bad. But it could be the wheel, bearing, CVD or all of them . So maybe more than $7.00.

I didnt think it was that bad of a hit. But daaaamn.

ZippyBasher 12.16.2010 11:47 PM

Well The Cvd Was Ok, The other side was a bit bent though  FLM Arm should be here tomorrow.

Got some "teaser" pics. Here is my Old "Mr. Crash style" 1/8 CD cup I had in the Tranny a while ago. Only lasted about 4 packs... Can you spot the problem???

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&amp;current=100_5186.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_5186.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Bottom Steel plug failed....

Solution:

Nova-RC Diff cup... Personally delivered by the owner... ( I actually met her at the Grocer)

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&amp;current=100_5191.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_5191.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

This will not be going in the Transmission. I bought some 1/4" 6061-T6 to make a CDmOUNT I bought a new 8ight diff and will use all new parts... Except maybe the spur... I have a kyosho 44t spur and It fits like a glove on the Nova Cup.:mdr: It didnt fit well on my 8ight buggy CD for some reason and leaked like Crazy... :diablo:

:intello: Thanks! I am glad someone is enoying it!

Wont get the Aluminum till Wednesday for the motor mount side. But Today I did make the bottom mount for the whole CD assembly.

I cut up and old 8ight chassis (where the CD would mount) and shaved it square to mount snug between the chassis rails. Then I will bolt that whole thing down to the skid plate.

Here I just took a pic. So much easier to see then then imagine.

Some more Progress...:mdr: 1/4" 6061-T6511. Geared 11/44. Should be about 52mph... Drilled and tapped the 1520 to 4mm screws.

I will add these braces. 1/4"x1/2"x2". They screw into the FLM Braces through the chassis. I still need to tap the end and screw the motor mount to the end. Then I will make an angled piece of 1/8" 7075 to finish it off and make it rock solid.

Here is what I got up to now (minus the 7075 angle and screw tapped in from the motor mount side)

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&amp;current=100_5293.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_5293.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

About ~2mm off the motor fins to the chassis: Woot! Even if I regear to the 50t spur and I can lower the motor down again to keep the motor sitting nice and low...

looks very nice. On my truggy w/the 1520 there is only 3mm clearance with the motor

ZippyBasher 01.06.2011 04:47 PM

Update!

Motor Mount is finished and slightly Tested! Got all the Bracing finished; holes drilled and tapped. I went and tested for 1 pack so far, This thing is SWEET! I was keeping up around the "Track" with my dads Buggy which was on 6s too... For a bit. Then I noticed bad wheel wobble; I blew the two rear passenger side bearings. Went home and fixed the bearings and then it started raining. LAME. I need to retune my shocks. I was "Donkey kicking" on the bumps pretty bad though... Thicker Oil in the Rear????

On another note: I will be ditching the 1520 in the Maxx for a 1717 ! Woohoo! then regearing to 14/50 for about 56mph. This should actually drop the motor by another ~.5mm with the larger diameter of the 1717.
Then the 1520 is going to be stuffed into the 8ight buggy. My dad got me another MMM for Christmas; so I will run the 8ight with the 1520 on 6s with 18/43 gearing for about 60mph. Hopefully I can get some videos for you guys.

Anyway looking at this now. The motor has dropped at least an inch to an inch and a half. Woohoo! Seriously Low CG now. :yipi:

Also, I got and F-650 Body and it fits just right with the Mono-block. Barely hits the front and rear bumpers. and tires almost hit the wheel wells at full tilt. Perfect fit. Any bigger and it wouldnt fit...

Kcaz25 01.06.2011 05:55 PM

Looks crazy good. I'm really into it. I nearly had this truck once. Very close at one time. Then I got that Mutant chassis.

Donkey kicking huh? What weight oil are you using now? Is that one blue and one black spring on each side? IDK you probably have to much spring... I would say so. You really don't even have that much weight back there.

-Zack

ZippyBasher 01.06.2011 06:13 PM

Thanks Man, I appreciate you commenting. I think your Mutant is still a good notch up on mine... but I do what I can

I have 30wt mixed with a touch of 80wt in the rear. And those Black springs aren't UE Springs they are RC8 buggy shocks and springs and they are very soft. My suspension actually is very plush. Maybe sinking half the length of travel when I sit it down... I was thinking of getting ~50wt or so...? Think maybe its slapping the ground and bouncing back?

What oils are you running? 4 or 8 shock?

Kcaz25 01.06.2011 06:37 PM

Well if you will remember when I was running the FLM chassis with monoblock in a very similar setup I was using both 8 and 4 supershocks.. For some reason I wanted to be able to drop my truck from 4 feet flat and not have the chassis touch the floor. I was obsessed with this for about 5 months. After trying every shock on the market(and not on the market) I decided I was crazy and wrong for thinking these things. But I still wanted a big shock body heavy oil and fairly good springs. I ended up with 16mm buggy shocks. They are huge.

http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...a/100_2100.jpg

http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...a/100_2099.jpg

They have 30wt in them (alot of it) and the springs are medium hardness. I would like to try 45wt oil next time in these. I love them with 30 though.

However you I see now and you seem to know what you are doing. Yeah 50wt sounds good. Gee half way down is alot at the height you are running. We probably run similiar ride heights and I would have to say turn up the shocks preload collars. (I should say turn them down.) Mine only sags slightly. The front sags to where the shafts in the suspension are level and the rear sags to just above level.

It was so hard for me to picture and conceptualize the truck and how it reacts while in motion. You have seen and felt the donkey kicking and know it best.

ZippyBasher 01.06.2011 06:52 PM

Silly me, I forgot about your Duh towers and Shocks. :mdr:

They are SICK!

I have had the kicking problem for a while now. I just figured it was a " MT Thing". But flying down a straight and sommersaulting at 40mph starts to rip the truck apart! Hahaha I gotta do something...

Man your truck is sweet too. I love how many directions we can take with the Maxx... From my take, to yours and Even Aliens ride. Just plain addicting.

I will definately get some vids this weekend if its dry... The 1520 was nuts, I cant wait to try the 1717....:diablo: I better stock up on bearings!

Kcaz25 01.06.2011 07:26 PM

Yeah and these are all low cog trucks. Don't forget a truck like Popoxx's.

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x.../P1080169B.jpg

Or Mark's. And I must say it will look totally different when he unveils what he has been working on for the past 6 months or so.

Neil's as a full GMaxx is another animal all together.

Then a full VBS supermaxx is again its own animal even if its not a Lightning.. We don't see to many of those around.

I thought this was a good shot of showing how simple this CD Mount really is…

<a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/?action=view&amp;current=100_5381.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii169/reltsurlxv/100_5381.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Spider gears are now worn in, Oil is “Glittery”, Spur is toast. Time for a rebuild. (After 15min)

Regeared to 50t Spur and 14t Pinion. I had to Clearance the black skid pictured under the 8ight chassis piece. Simple enough. Then I had to clearance the “Support Leg” for the CD Motor Mount. You can see the little notch I cut here:

B-Money 01.12.2011 08:42 PM

Hey,

That looks awesome and ridiculously overpowered.

I was just wondering how you made the motor plate/mount. especially the hole for the CD bearing.

I am planning on making my own mount for my XXL for a 1717 and i have been thinking about how i will make the hole for the CD bearing so that it doesn't move too much,

Thanks in advance
B-M

ZippyBasher 01.12.2011 09:41 PM

Thanks Money!

The mount was cut with a jigsaw and some fresh Heavy Duty bits.

The bearing hole isn't perfect but came out pretty damn good... I used an 8ight-T diff and it used 14mm outer diameter bearings. I used an 1/2 inch drill bit (only 12.7mm) and made the hole in the right spot. Then with the drill bit chucked in the drill press I slightly rotated my hand while holding the mount. This enlarged the hole very slightly. The bearing was a bit too tight, So about 1 minute with some sand paper and I had the fit just right...

If you plan to use a more standard size CD bearing (16mm) I suggest getting a 5/8 inch drill bit (15.875mm) and just do a little more sanding. You can get them in there perfect with a little time and patience. It wont take long to sand away .125mm :mdr:

Then I just used a Belt sander and File to get the edges all pretty and sanded with wet 150 grit. (400 would be better)

PS for the motor mount holes I just removed a motor end bell and clamped it on the mount to get the 25mm spacing just right...

 PSS: Get some Good Quality Drill Bits. I broke or Dulled 4 or 5 bits drilling this mount and braces. As you can see in the top middle of the mount.
