Ihobby2010 Maxamps 24v 47A power supply

I saw this one big squid. Maxamps labeling what looks like server power supply's. You guys thing it's the 47A server mod of ours. It sure looks like it. Maxamps should call it the Hewlett Packard 24V pack.

But it looks prettier when wrapped in heatshrink... :sarcastic:

snellemin 10.21.2010 02:58 PM

hehehheheh. Damn Lurkers.

nitrostarter 10.21.2010 03:02 PM

Nice profit margin on these. $80 for the 12V from Maxamps, or $20 like Snelle built... Hmm!

They stealing our good ideas...

BrianG 10.21.2010 03:09 PM

Oh no, I'm sure he stole their idea. Snellemin will probably be receiving a lawsuit charging him with divulging trade secrets or some such.

whitrzac 10.21.2010 03:16 PM

I'm surprised that they aren't advertising the 100+ amp rating when connected to 240vac:neutral:

feistyacorn 10.21.2010 03:17 PM

Funny stuff! If I go to iHobby I will have to ask.

josh9mille 10.21.2010 03:40 PM

Wow, that is an all new low!

reno911 10.21.2010 04:02 PM

Another fun surprise.

slimthelineman 10.21.2010 04:15 PM

Told you guys. I posted on this a while back when I saw it on another forum. Pretty blatent if you ask me. Wow that's some expensive shrink...

Big House 10.21.2010 04:23 PM

That is pretty low right there. That is down right theft.

reno911 10.21.2010 04:40 PM

Ehh at this point the only time I think about, mention, discuss, argue, or anything Maxamps is on this forum. I pretty much just look, giggle a bit, and buy elsewhere.

Now if only everyone else here just left it alone than we would all be in peace.

Then again thats no fun!

Sarcasm Noted

josh9mille 10.21.2010 04:55 PM

I wanna get my hands on a few rolls of that shrinkwrap! Just think of all the money i could make!

slimthelineman 10.21.2010 05:19 PM

Or all the things you could shrink wrap and mark up.... Batteries, p/s's, the dog....

josh9mille 10.21.2010 05:24 PM

how do you hook 2 supplies together to get 24v?

slimthelineman 10.21.2010 05:31 PM

Gotta do em in series and remove the ground from one iirc. Talked about it in the thread on them. But be carefull there will be a shock hazard present as there would be a difference in voltage between the two cases unless you could find some really expensive material to cover them with....

suicideneil 10.21.2010 05:37 PM

Can I flame maxamps again, pretty please? I'll be even more creative than last time ( it was worth it... )...

JERRY2KONE 10.21.2010 05:58 PM

Actually

Actually I am surprized that they are only selling them for $80. Knowing how inflated their battery prices are I would have expected this would have been listed for $150-$200 each. $2.00 for the power supply, $20 for an hours worth of work converting it, and about $130 for that beautiful shrink wrap. It costs a lot of money to get that wrap made up with your very own logo on it. They just keep instilling faith to all of us. Way to go company "P".

You can look here (not a safe thing to do with these supplies) - How to build a $20 47A power supply

Yes we know this, that is why this thread was started in the first place, and why all of the comments have been made in the context that they have been. I guess the level of whit has been lost in the writing.

The danger with these power supplies has been with leaving the case energized which could result in the user being electricuted. By placing a 5mm plastic wrap with fancy graphics around the case it becomes insulated and you are protected. ha :rofl:ha:intello: ha :whistle:ha:oh: ha :rofl:ha ha ha ha ha ha

nitrostarter 10.21.2010 09:29 PM

Snelle did you at least write the idea down and mail it to yourself for some legal protection?

LOL. They would have to deal with Hewlett Packard/Compaq for that one, which deals with big lawsuits on a frequent basis.

lincpimp 10.21.2010 11:32 PM

The PS mods have been around for a long time... I run a pair of much better specced units, that are also smaller and look better!! Paid about 20 bucks each.

At least MA sell a PS that can keep up with the hyperion chargers...

I agree. Really dont even have a problem with this one at all. Compared to the power supplies at hobby shops its a great deal.

Very true, PS that are sold thru hobby locations are expensive. I paid something ridiculous for my 1st PS before I knew what was up.

80 bucks is not so bad, have you seen their lipo prices:whistle:

molak 10.22.2010 12:03 AM

Grade A power supplies, wraped today with fresh shrinking tube!

this is a good hint about the real value of their packs ....

JERRY2KONE 10.22.2010 12:42 AM

View?

From my view it is not any different that any other supplier who are getting their LiPo cells from China or Korea and rebadging them as their own. I am curious as to whether any of the LiPo cells are actually manufactured in the USA? I doubt it.. Considering the fact that their LiPo's may be getting better in comparison to the rest my only issue with them is the outragious pricing they think they are entitled to.

slimthelineman 10.22.2010 01:20 AM

Thank you! Global supply chain! They all come from the same places but each us company claims to have the best ones. Now I'm not saying all packs are created equal. I would say the us companies do a better job of matching the cells together for a pack. But the cheap overseas companies get it close enough to work. I am all for buying American but not if it means paying two to three times as much for the same thing with an American companies sticker on it. To me all they are selling that is American is the sticker at that point. Produce them here and sell them here that would truly be American, not import them and relabel them. In a day and age where virtually nothing is made in America anymore it gets harder and harder to keep money here. At least design the stuff here with high standards and have them manufactured overseas to keep cost down for the consumers. This has proven to work well.... Very well.

JERRY2KONE 10.22.2010 01:35 AM

Correct

You are correct Slim. Thats the problem I have with some of these suppliers like Company "P". They are just purchasing whatever they can get their hands on and selling them for double or even triple profits.

slimthelineman 10.22.2010 01:43 AM

So who wants to start a lipo company? Let people know where it comes from, what it's capable of and have a reasonable mark up to cover the costs and still make a reasonable profit? Maybe call it monster amps..... Oh man I'm such a jerk! Seriously though monster mike could do right by his customers and sell the same stuff as everyone else without the insane markups.

johnrobholmes 10.22.2010 01:50 AM

How about MaxxVolts?

josh9mille 10.22.2010 01:57 AM

How about SurgeWatts?

slimthelineman 10.22.2010 02:01 AM

^ brand "p" would be pissed!

ZippyBasher 10.22.2010 03:02 AM

*Cough* Castle Cough* Great 'American Products' But they source products to be made in China and put together here. Hence Made In USA. BUT MAJOR FACTOR HERE: Quality Control!!!! Support, R&D, Customer Service ( How many times has a Castle Rep logged on here?! Yeah! Great Pricing... ETC ETC

I Felt as Slim said "close enough to work" and that is the taste I have from MA...

JERRY2KONE 10.22.2010 03:12 AM

True that.

Actually that sounds pretty cool. I wish someone would pony up and start their own company in the USA making LiPo cells, packaging R/C packs, and all for reasonable pricing. Just think of the amount of sales one could drum up just by creating a product like that for our hobby masses. A volume business that would probably end up doing fairly well considering how large our hobby is.
