Finished my 2nd GTP
Went to LHS Randy's this morning and broke both my cars. Went home and build up my second GTP, for true onroad use. Team Magic Buggy has way too much torque and the little CRT.5 just wasn't cutting it today.
I actually use a faster servo in this build. Took out the plastic guards for a different look. Used a RC-Monster motor mount and had to shimmy that biotch. The RCM mount was lower than the front mount, so I had to lift it up a bit. An LX battery tray and servo holder was added. Pletty 3000kv and Tekin RX8. My cap bank add with dual TVS is a no brainer. The spool has the smaller spur option. I need to add a manly fan to the ESC and get me the rear body mount and hardend gears for the diffs. I allready have the King Headz diff case caps. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/PA100082.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/PA100079.jpg |
nice...she should scream
|
Your top speed will be limited by the reverse thrust of the motor cooling fan.
|
I can always slow the reverse trust down, with the slower 2300kv Pletty that I have, but the diffs might not fair so well.
The first RCM motor mount that I have fits perfect with the stock 51T spool. The second one that I got seems to be made for the 47T spool or 46T center diff. Hence I had to shimmy the mount up a bit. The first mount is just plain aluminum and the second one is anodized. |
Added a monster fan, so I can gear up and run any motor I want. Reloaced the caps and added voltage wire to the RX for the telemetry. I can check out my battery voltage on the fly now.
The fan runs of the RX and blows plenty. Sounds like a screamin' kitchenmaid on 12V. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/DSCF0550.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/DSCF0548.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/DSCF0546.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/DSCF0544.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/DSCF0543.jpg |
What are the specs of the Plett you are running and looking at the pinion, it is taking a beating hitting the spur gear. There are some mean notches on it.
|
Don't know much, other than it's 3000kv and spools up quick. Drives different than with a tekin, castle or neu motor.
|
When you say different...is it better in speed or better in power delivery?
|
It does the speed nicely and power delivery is smoother. It's like a C50L Hacker, with more torque. Once I get the hardend ring gears in, I will be able to just go bananas with it.
|
Upgraded the diffs with the Hardend ring gear and King Headz diff cup thingymagiggy. Swapped in some new dogbones and it runs alot smoother. Next week the King Headz hinge pin holders will be here. Only upgrade left after that is to a carbon fiber chassis by SNR.

Very nice. I built my own Carbon chassis myself. I like the look of those gears. Are they any quieter than the stock gears? My GTP is noisy as heck.
|
Thanks man. It's a fast sucker and handles well. The gears are quieter than the stock ones, which don't last too long with me either. The harder gears hold up to some serious power.

Nice toy there.
Thats a nice looking toy there. I have been wanting to build an on road vehicle, and that looks like fun. Especially with the Pletty on there. I have a big Maximum, but I do not know what KV rating it is. That ESC does not look like an RX8. So that is a GTP, so what motor mount did you purchase for it?

The bigmaximumm is 2300kv. I have one sitting here as well and have yet to find a use for it. That is the RX8 with the top cut off. Motor mount is from RCM. |
I'm jealous, I really want to build one, as I have a mmm 2650 lying here wanting a new home.
What body are you running? |
I run the protoform GT or Kyosho Ferrari body. I just got a Lola looking body from
TC5racer as well. Well out running today and motor locked up. This happend running on blacktop and drifting here and there. I really loved the motor and the KV and torque was perfect. I slapped the longer 2300kv Bigmaxx instead and hope it last longer. Geared for around 54mph. It has too much torque for the poor blue foams. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...g/DSCF0590.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...g/DSCF0589.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...g/DSCF0588.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/DSCF0595.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/DSCF0592.jpg |
Man that painted body looks sweet!!!
I'm sorry to hear about the Pletty sounds like I know what to tell the wife to get you for Christmas. |

I added some King headz beef to the front and rear.

I wanted the pillow ball setup in the rear, but didn't want to spend an arm and a leg for it. So Ebay to the resque and bought OFNA Rear Pivot Ball Kit, MP-6 Part# 31297 for 14 bucks plus shipping. I had to shimmy it a bit, but now I have a nice 13" wheelbase. The thing is on rails and zooms like mad.
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/PB040110.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/PB040111.jpg Here's the bigger motor. It's scary to drive with this beast. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/PB040112.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/PB040114.jpg |
Those shims should work alright. If you want the kit made specifically for the GTP, go HERE. That is the same one I bought a while back. Perfect fit! It also includes the newer style anti-roll bar and a spare set of front lower arms... :mdr:
I can take pics for you after work tomorrow (today?) if you want..... |
just read the thread.
SICK BUILD SNELL! Gotta love the looks of the pletty:yes: |
Thanks Paralyzed. I'm having fun building this one up.
Nitro, what is the wheelbase with the GTP kit? |
I'll post this info here too.
The Bigmaxx is a 1800W 2300kv motor and about the same length as Castles 1520 motor. It runs on 4s Acepow. The other Pletty that I blew up was a 1000W 3000kv motor. The Bigmaxx has too much torque and I'm actually considering using the current limiter. 1000W or like most 1512 motors are perfect for the GTB. Motors that I have used in either GTP's are: Hacker C50 13L 1874KV and 6L 4060kv motor (As smooth as sensored and perfect amount of torque w/quick spoolup) Plettenberg Maxx 3000kv and Bigmaxx 2300kv motor(4 pole motors that spool up like a 2 pole) Castle 2200KV and 1520 1600kv motors(both are torque monsters, but slower spool up) Tekno Neu 1512 1400kv motor(Way smoother than Castle motors) Tekno Neu 1515 2700kv motor(Fast smooth torque monster) Tekin 4030 1400kv motor(Even smoother than the Tekno Neu) Lehner XL Basic 3100kv motor(Tough little motor, but an XXL would've been better) Hacker C50 Maxx 14.4 3600kv motor(Same can size as the C50-L motors, but less torque due to shorter rotor magnet) LRP 2500kv 1/8 motor.(13mm rotor just doesn't cut it. Worked well in lighter vehicles. Power is equivelant to a C40-L Hacker motor) ESC's that I've run in the GTP's: Losi 1/8 ESC(Ran 6s A123 with Tekno neu 1515 2700kv motor. Blew up after firmware update) Lutach LT-10s 120A(10s A123 is overkill with a 1400kv Tekno neu) Tekin RX8 with cap bank(favorite) |
Those Hacker C50 motors are very nice. Had one awhile ago and wish I never traded it away now.
I was hoping the LRP 1/8 motors would be promising for 1/8 on-road, too bad. I am looking to try a sensored motor, and besides Tekin the options are pretty limited. Nothing wrong with Tekin, I'll probably go with one, but I always like to see what's out there. What do you think about sensored vs. sensorless in 1/8 on-road snellemin? I have only used sensorless in my 1/8 off-roads, and since my MMP has the sensor port I decided I want to give a sensored motor a try. |
Well word was that Novak was coming out with some 1/8 motors. I'll wait and see what that is all about.
With sensored you have better startups with taller gearing/high rollout ratio. Tekin has a boost too for their 1/8 lower kv motors. Right now the RX8 is super smooth even with my 47/23 gearing in sensorless. My other GTP which has the 4000kv motor, starts up good with 51/25 gearing. But when I dragraced it, I had 51/18 in there with the 4000kv motor. Instant starts with the RX8 without sensors. Sensored is not really needed for what I do. Sensored is good for those boost+turbo running folks with their roar motors. |

It's a ball-in-socket arrangement with adjustable tension. Very low profile, too. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g4...203_180831.jpg The pivot ball carriers are the same. The lower arms are made specifically for the kit. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g4...203_180924.jpg |
Your padding! It's the length of the fan that makes it as long as a 1520!
|
I was thinking of getting the GTP2e from Tower for a while now. I have a Tekin RX8/T8 2250 combo kicking around not doing much. How would that go in the GTP? Would the diffs hold up to 5-6S power or would I have to upgrade them? Don't want to spend a huge amount of money as I still have a whole fleet of RCs to maintain.
Are the diffs in the nitro and electric version the same? |
Upgrading the ring gears is recommended and getting those metal diff case caps is a plus when going with a higher power setup.
|
So are they a factory upgrade or aftermarket part? Got a link for them? Anything else that really needs upgrading? I bet these things are hell on tires. LOL
|
I think the dirt oval comes with the hardend ring gears allready, but I'm not sure.
The ring gears are factory upgrades and the metal diff case caps are from king headz. |
My GTP pulled a peak of 2668W with a 4s pack over the weekend. Tires were run down Ofna blue foams. Basically I was doing burnouts, speedruns and power sliding. This also posed a problem with the ESC. My voltage dropped twice to 8.55V for 0.002 of a second and the RX8 didn't respond. I only had 5 led's on, so I didn't thermal. Impressive on the RX8 part to detect that V-drop that fast.
So I found the Acepow 4s pack limitation with my 1.5D 1515 2700kv motor and 47/28 gearing. I can however ease on the throttle and not have the lipo cutoff trip. Datalogger used was the new Eagletree V4 which has the 50hz logging capability. Connectors are EC5. RX8 has 3 extra caps. Motor plugs are 6mm.<!-- google_ad_section_end --> |
