Mythbusters - errors/mistakes

I must admit, unless it's within my 'fields of expertise' I just watch the entertainment & don't question much of what they do or say but I know many viewers do

What are some of the mistakes they've made according to RCM brains?

josh9mille 12.01.2010 10:02 PM

The first mistake they made was destroying a chery 1969 Toyota Corona for the "Ejector Seat" episode. :whip: Now before you guys give me shit for saying that.....that is a very desirable collector car with toyota enthusiasts. I actually need to find one for my next hotrod project :)

What's_nitro? 12.01.2010 10:13 PM

Pretty much every mistake they make is due to their failure to notice all variables involved.

Yeah Josh I hate it when they destroy things I wish I had......in the name of science!

DrKnow65 12.01.2010 11:38 PM

The faster over a rough road is smoother episode bugged a little. The test they set up had a large curb at the beginning that jumped the car a hair which threw off the results IMHO. But that's the only one coming directly to mind... I'm still a big fan of the show :-)

Monster garage however used to make me nuts with all the techical errors, especially on the projects that failed! Don't get me started.

I hate all of those shows where they ask these teams to build some crazy never-before-seen contraption......in 4-7 days! :surprised: :grrrrrr:

Clearly the show's producers care more about saving money on filming time versus having a quality show.

Don't care much about any mistakes they may make. I love the show, I find it very entertaining and Kari Byron is hot.

You got that right! She is hot as hell, and red hair is usually a big turn off for me. And that is coming from a red headed guy! lol

Yeah Kari sure helps the ratings along. I've always enjoyed their version of RC cars as well

As an engineering student (senior) and tech junkie I find that most of the stuff they do is pretty sound. Of course there are some myths have an untold number of variables, but the show is for entertainment and to make them money. It succeeds very well, and happens to educate a lot of people on stuff that normally wouldn't be exposed to.
Love the show, haven't caught many fundamental errors, none big enough to stick in my mind.
Haven't watched too many of the episodes though.

That right there is funny...dont care who ya are!!!!!

They are usually very good about covering most varialbles that they can control. One thing about experiments and analysis, you incorporate as many variables as you can, and make assumptions about the ones you cant control.

I remember one that I had a real issue with - the driving at night with out your lights on. They concluded that it would be too dark and dangerous to attempt to drive at night (they used a completely dark indoor go-cart track for it). Coming from eastern Montana, we used to do it all the time. At times, it was so bright at night, that you could pick out animals 200 yards out in the fields.

I've seen Mythbusters only once and they did a poor job IMO. IIRC, they were trying to prove/disprove something about having jewelry (like peircings) increase the chance of getting hit by lightning. I don't remember a whole lot about it, but I do remember how disappointed I was about the testing methodology. It seemed to me just a couple of guys testing something that they had no idea what they were doing.

When Kari was out having her baby that other gal that filled in for her, something about her really throttled me up. She's a sexy little minx herself. She used to co-host a truck show, maybe still does ? She's a certified welder and likes to get greasy

Yeah some of the things Grant does with the rc stuff is cool. Then again you expect that from one of the only couple of R2D2 operators. And Deadblow was just cool.

0_o MILFBusters!

She's crazy nerd hot no matter what.

Overall I think they do a very good job and do everything in good faith. There are a couple of wierd ways they did thigns here and there, but otoh, they can't be experts in everything and they do have limitations in terms of budgets and timelines. Best show ever

Busted

The tornado show aired again last night. Where they try to make a portable tornado shelter. Their debris test was to shoot it with a wood cylinder the size of a 12oz can of cola out of Jamie's 12oz can cannon(I need one of those!) at it. When in other shows they've tested tornado shelters by shooting a whole 8' 2x4" at it. They claimed to only modify the shelter in one area when you can see other modifications they forgot to mention.

One funny episode was when they had Grant(Mythbuster's biggest wussy!) trying to drive on ice.

Sure it's for entertainment but the nerds should know that other nerds watching need more important variables addressed.

I used to pass people on rural highways by moonlight with my headlights off. A full moon on a clear country night, no problem. It really freaks the other driver out!
