Slash 4x4 SCT 2400 combo install

Howdy Folks,

Just installed the SCT/2400 combo into my Slash 4x4

A couple of observations

I had to install an external bec as the internal did not work well (Ace DS1015 servo)

I am not happy with the length of the motor shaft and where the pinion sits (5mm pinion with reducer)

I am running the TRX 50t spur and was planning to install a 17t pinion

Could not get them to mesh correctly and had to install a 19t

The MMP ESC has the yellow light flashing (TX problem ?) but functions correctly and calibrates fine, any suggestions on how to fix this ?

I am running the Spektrum SR3300t RX and it worked fine with my previous MMM / 1512 combo

The motor is a little ripper, and after 10 minutes of high speed passes the temp didnt get over 130 (running a 4s 5000mah 40c pack)

Great job on a great combo for these cars

Cheers

I think the yellow flashing is the indicator for cheat mode not being enabled - Roar requirements.

crusey_aus 01.17.2011 09:46 AM

I read earlier today that it also flashes to confirm the motor timing is set at 0 (for roar)

Cheers

This truck runs 32p /0.8mod gears, right? Why not get a 1/8 bore 32p pinion for it, instead of using a 5mm bore with reducer? Or are you having issues with the motor contacting the chassis before the smaller 17t pinion can get close enough to the spur? Just a thought, as I am not familiar with either the vehicle or the motor.

slimthelineman 01.17.2011 11:52 AM

+1 I always ran Robinson racing 32pitch 3mm bore pinions.

i dont have any 1:10 cars but still i want this system so bad, the motor is the best looking castle motor yet.
I have burnt sevral 2 pole castle motor in the past but this seems like another level in the 1:10 class motors

The motor mount plate hits the end of its movement range before the pinion and spur can mesh correctly

Same thing happened when running the 1512 motor, was planning to install a 21t pinion but could only get a 23 to mesh correctly

I do have some 3mm pinions but as far as I can see they are similar in physical size

Not really a big deal as a larger spur would also help, just thought I would let people know

Cheers

You should run a 3mm pinion.

crusey_aus 01.20.2011 06:25 PM

For what reason mate ?

Is using the reducer not ideal ?

Cheers

Considering that a standard pinion for the truck is about $4 and a 5mm bore one in about $10 I would say using the reducer is not ideal!

Arct1k 01.20.2011 07:29 PM

Bore size makes no difference to pinion size. Run what you like or can get easily.

crusey_aus 01.21.2011 12:00 AM

I understand the price difference was wondering if the reducer was a weakness at all

I allready have a set of 5mm pinions as my previous motor was the 1512

Cheers

That motor is AWESOME!

Bmr4life 01.21.2011 07:45 AM

You know, it probably doesn't make a difference. I was thinking the 3mm pinion would weigh less than the 5mm pinion plus the reducer, but they're probably very close.

this motor is waaay overkill for any normal 1/10 car.

the 1410 motor is the same diameter and only 3mm longer than the 2 pole 1/10 motors, but it can handle WAAAY more power and runs way cooler. i am running mine in a heavy ~7lb crt .5 geared for at least 50mph and it doesn't get over 125F.

DrKnow65 01.22.2011 02:15 AM

I would love to build a fleet of Ofna SCRT's with this combo on 4S 2650mah packs for racing. Punch control dialed in, all the power you can hook up, long run times, and never a thought twards heat or durability.

Installation in my stampede 4x4, 19/54 gearing, 2x2S lipo 5200 30c, teckno rc M6 drive shaft, RPM shock tower and arm, traxxas machined motor mount with clear cover.

I did some data logging today with the 2400

Geared 18/52, Proline Streetfighters, high speed passes on tarmac

3s 6000mah 25c Turnigy Nanotech
Min Voltage - 11.32v
Max Amps - 108.6 amps
Max Power - 1237 watts
GPS Speed - 80 km/h (50 mph)

4s 5000mah 40c Turnigy
Min Voltage - 15.02v
Max Amps - 132 amps
Max Power - 1980 watts
GPS Speed - 96 km/h (60 mph)

Pretty damn good figures for a motor of this size

Cheers

Bmr4life 01.25.2011 08:58 PM

Nice. I may get this combo for my 10SC.

C-5Quad 01.26.2011 07:11 PM

I thought I read some where castle was making a 3300kv motor of this size does anyone know if this is indeed true as I would wait for it to come out in the same combo to run in my rusty that just lost its vxl esc........I want over kill so I can stay super cool and swap it into a 4x4 pede or slash when I have the chance. and for 170.00 shipped this is a great investment

never mind I read further and found its a 3800kv 1410 not 1415

no worries the 2400 will work i'll jusr gear right and adjust the punch to keep my diff in one piece..

crusey_aus 01.26.2011 07:21 PM

I havent seen anything announced for a higher kv version of the 1415 motor

No reason why you couldnt run the 2400 and gear it for whatever speed you need in a Rustler

Cheers

E-Revonut 01.27.2011 12:58 AM

The 1410 1y 3800kv Castle/Neu will push a Rustler with ease!!! It pushes my SC10 around like it's a feather, motor barely raises above ambient temperature

I ordered the 2400 sct combo and got it for $175.00 shipped I would have went with the 1410 but I couldn't beat the price of the combo plus this way I can get a 4x4 in the future without buying a new motor to push it. Do you think I can gear for 35mph on 2s and be ok or do I really need to run higher voltage?

E-Revonut 01.27.2011 07:41 PM

If you can get a gear ration to mesh that will give you 35MPH on 2s that motor will definitely pull it
