My new hopped up CRT .5

Just got my hands on this, going to use the vxl stuff on 3s.

Bought this for a fair price, its like new, jato's on the front 1/8's on the back. Mikes chassis, titanium turnbuckles and hinge pins and I think every alloy hop up that jammin make! must have cost a fourtune new.

Very nice man. But I would put an equal impressive brushless setup in there.

lincpimp 01.20.2011 06:14 PM

A MMP sc setup on 3s would be real nice, save for the 1/8 motor shaft. A 1509 with 3000kv or so on 3s with a MM or MMpro would be my setup of choice.

Candyman2 01.21.2011 03:34 PM

hmmmmmmmm, and for 4s? just thinking ahead, MMP and ? what motor

E-Revonut 01.21.2011 03:38 PM

mmp sct combo! 1415 1y 2400kv

nastety92 01.21.2011 03:51 PM

MMPro with a 1509 Neu motor. I think that is the hot setup.

Mine will be running a MM Pro with a Figeao L motor eventually. Right now it has the VXL motor and ESC in it as well. I'm going to run mine on 2s and 3s.

Thats a nice looking rig, good luck with it.

Nick

Candyman2 01.21.2011 03:59 PM

Im going to try the vxl on 3s first, if its not enough i'll get a MMP and look for a motor, I dont want anything too expensive so probably wont use the Neu.

Arct1k 01.21.2011 03:59 PM

Must go home and check mine - looks almost the same... Although you are missing the RC-monster front top plate...

I'm sure Mike would sell you one... Personally I'd go for a 5mm shaft with this - I've snapped a 1/8th shaft on a CRT.5

ah, I think i'll leave the top plate as is.

Finally got the kyosho 46 on the diff, had to make a little collar to take the 8mm spur up to 10mm for the bearing, then had to trim the spur to get it in. Then had to enlarge the chassis cut out by 1mm so it doesnt catch.

Looks very nice!
Whats the benefit of running that spur?

Candyman2 01.22.2011 05:42 AM

im not a fan of metal on metal noise and wear. I run a plastic spur on my other cars, keeps everything quiet.

el tomaso 02.06.2011 04:23 PM

I have tried my new mini truggy setup just recently. Its a hyper mini STe, with modded MM, NEU 1509 2400kv, and 4s 3300mah 35C. I ran for over half an hour before the LVC kicked in, and temps were all under 100f. I am looking forward to trying bigger wheels and pinions:yipi:

I've been working on a used crt.5 I picked up from ebay. Not going to be nearly as nice as yours...look at all that ofna Al hop ups!!! :O :O
looks really dang nice!

Candyman2 03.25.2011 05:31 AM

Well I did a couple of runs on the VXL with 3s and it was pretty good...... but not perfect, power was ok but not great. Everything was running quite hot as the vxl on 3s is already at the limit without using a heavy crt .5 (not that heavy but heavier than the rustler it came out of).

So......... so I bought a MMM and a 1512 2650kv  weight is about 100g more but a much better combo, im going to try it with a 3S this afternoon for a direct comparrison then probably get hold of a 4S pack. Im going to make a new chassis as I think the motor needs moving back and out a bit to make room for rest of the electronics.

Oh yes and after fighting with diff gears, outdrives and prop shafts i've given up, im going to fit a PROPER regular sized 1/8th center diff with a plastic 46t kyosho spur and use beffy 1/8th prop shafts.

Candyman2 03.25.2011 10:55 AM

right here we go then

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/crt/12.JPG

very nearly the same size!

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/crt/13.JPG

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/crt/14.JPG

just got back form running it on the 3S, very good it has the effortless sort of power I wanted, motor is strong and the whole system seems a lot less stressed, this confirmed by the 20 minute run time! The vxl on the same pack was giving about 9 minutes. Not sure about switching to 4s now, might leave this as is for a bit, gonna start working on the new chassis.

nastety92 03.25.2011 11:42 AM

The truck looks great with the Mamba Monster and 2650kv motor in there.

Where did the ESC mount come from? Did you make that or did it come with the RCM kit?

Thanks,
Nick

Candyman2 03.25.2011 11:50 AM

its from the rc monsters chassis kit I think.

AL3xGR 03.25.2011 03:35 PM

Could you post a video please?

Candyman2 03.25.2011 03:50 PM

I will do, I wont bother with the VXL system for comparrison as the main difference is heat and run time, nether will show much. Plus the main thing, it can handle as many cells as you like.

My camera girl is not about till Sunday, i'll try to get somehting filmed then.

AL3xGR 03.27.2011 09:52 AM

Nice! It seems to have lots of torque!
Do you think it's better to have an extended chassis? Any improvement about handling(especially about cornering)?
Also, are these tires good for this truck?(traction, how long do they last, etc.)

EDIT:These are 2.8" anaconda tires or 2.2"

Candyman2 03.27.2011 10:54 AM

I never drove it on the short chassis, this length feels about right, ballance is good.

I dont think the anacondas are the best for street, although I dont know what is as I usually drive off road, I already bought off road tyres for this im only on the tarmac for testing. They are 2.8" yes, both the wide type wheels, Jato rear/ electric front.

nastety92 03.27.2011 09:06 PM

Have you changed the diff fluid in your truck yet? I'm wondering what you are running F/C/R?

Truck looks great, seem like it has plenty of power.

Thanks,
Nick

Candyman2 03.28.2011 04:02 AM

Yes its ok, im working on a new chassis now to get the weight lower down.

Shame I cant put in 3 1/2s :) The jump form 3 to 4s I think will be massive. Center diff has 10k in it, I like to be able to wheelie if I want to, the front and rear I dont know, feels loose, maybe 3-5k.

Candyman2 04.07.2011 02:56 PM

Right plan is to get the electronics flat in the chassis, get the lipo flat and put the motor further back. Also fitting a proper 1/8th center diff and regular plastic 46T spur. Also not happy with the braces to stiffen the chassis, if you really get hold of it it just flexes where the braces meet the chassis and I want it stiffer than that.

Cut a chassis plate out 10mm longer than original (that is rc-monsters extended chassis) and made the basic diff/ motor mount.

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/crt/15.JPG

made the rough diff mount for the other side and had a trial fit of stuff

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/crt/16.JPG

needed a new top "deck" for my new brace

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/crt/17.JPG

Might be better to have the receiver on the right.

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/crt/18.JPG

Im always paranoid the diff mounts are not 100% parallel and have friction so I wanted to brace them with tubes so when tight they are perfectly spaced.

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/crt/19.JPG

Slight re-think, 2 braces at the top, the bottom will be plenty strong attached to the chassis. trimmed and lightened as much as possible and drilled all the holes.

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/crt/20.JPG

thats what im talking about!

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/crt/21.JPG

another test fit

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/crt/22.JPG

made a simple servo mount, 4 rods.

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/crt/23.JPG

Candyman2 04.07.2011 02:57 PM

Top braces in place, stiff as you like now!

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/crt/24.JPG

this is where all the calculations paid off, fourtunatly perfectly in line!

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/crt/25.JPG

more pics soon.

Dang!!! That looks nice...how are you machining the aluminum? Looks really good.

Got some weight off the chassis plate

give it a polish and counter sink all the holes

Bmr4life 04.08.2011 01:04 PM

Damn, you've done EXACTLY what I want to do with my CRT .5

The stock chassis is so freaking small, can barely fit a 3s in there. I was planning on running my 2650kv with a 30t pinion.

I see you swapped out the center diff for an 1/8 model, Do you think the front and rear diffs are strong enough?

I'd like to turn my truck into a 1/10 70mph basher.

brainanator 04.08.2011 01:27 PM

Dang, you do great work with that little mill. I've got pick up one of those for myself some day...

Truck looks great, awesome paintjob too!!

Candyman2 04.08.2011 01:27 PM

Hi, yeh the diffs are good front and rear, im running this 3s on 17 pinion, as you can see in the video its just about right. Im going to get a 4s and probably leave the gearing as is, or maybe drop 1-2 teeth see how that goes. I'll be running this off road more than on road though.

Bmr4life 04.08.2011 01:35 PM

What mill do you have?

Sorry I miss that. Wow that's cheap. Was that an awesome deal or normal?

no its normal price, its not cnc, just a manula milling machine, on the left here, next to my lathe

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ryan.co...lathe-mill.jpg

Bmr4life 04.08.2011 01:47 PM

Done, that's the next tool I'm buying. I have so many parts I need to custom make.

Candyman2 05.02.2011 05:27 AM

Been running on 3s and its strong on the grass, very torquey, the motor stays very cool, 110f.

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/crt/33.JPG

Ordered a 4s, im going to keep the gearing the same and maybe tone the acceleration down a bit on the mamba. Video when I get the 4s

nastety92 05.02.2011 11:49 AM

Very nice looking. I really like the new layout with the motor moved towards the back and the esc up front.

Nice work, keep it up.

Nick

Candyman2 05.04.2011 06:32 AM

Got the 4s lipo, only weighs 80 grams more than the 3s. I was very excited to run it, however ended up a little disapointed. Im running on grass now and have lots of grip, I kept the gearing the same but the power is SO much I couldnt stop it from wheelying, over the full length of the field I couldnt get to full throttle, the front kept poping up and when I pushed this ended up in a massive cartwheel (20 rolls easy). The truck survived all the crashes intact! which I was surprised at, the motor still cool, but I couldnt push really. The center diff got up to 150f ! it was really working hard, im going to try reducing punch on the mamba but i'll probably end up going up a tooth on the pinion and going back to 3s. :surprised:
