So which 1/5 scale should I get?

So here I am, proud owner of a new 2028, and a hydra hv 180. And alot of lipos. (always had those)

So what larger scale ride should I convert?

I know alot of people will say baja, but I really do not care for 2wd, and I already had one.

So I am looking at the redcat dunerunner, that looks pretty cool.

Or should I go with one of the big on road cars, I can imagine that big azz motor pushing a 1/5 scale car past 70 with ease.

And to be honest I run on the street more than anything else. And I have strick off road MTs to use off the street.

A big on road car really sounds interesting now...

So what do you gyus think? I am not really up to date on all of the 1/5 offerings, throw me some ideas, links and pics!! Help a pimp spend some of his earninz!

simplechamp 02.04.2011 02:07 AM

I would LOVE to convert over one of the FG Formula 1 cars. I just think it's unique and an awesome machine. And even though it's 2WD I think it would have plenty of traction compared to a Baja.

_paralyzed_ 02.04.2011 02:20 AM

I know your a cheap a$$, so my suggestion would be get the redcat dunerunner and then slam it and get on road tires. That'd be your cheapest option.

Just be sure to buy a V3, they have all the bugs worked out.

Plus you have all the guidance from RyuJames rampage build.

Anything besides the 5b is gonna take some fabricating. Are you up to the task?

lincpimp 02.04.2011 02:46 AM

Ha, I laugh at fabricating. Mainly cause actually trying to make stuff is really hard, and laughing instead takes alot less effort.

Yeah, I could do a baja, and just put mech front brakes on it. Mainly like 4wd for good stopping, as 2wd sucks. Last thing I want is a 20+ lb truck sliding to a stop into my leg.

Are the integy baja front brakes still poo?

pinkpanda3310 02.04.2011 03:25 AM

Even for onroad I think your better off with 4wd for ease of handling with that amount of power. Rear tires won't last long on 2wd.

+1 that car is so damn sexy! But very expensive, even used on eBay.

TexasSP 02.04.2011 11:43 AM

You could look at getting a Savage Flux and doing this conversion on it to 5th scale:

http://www.tcscrawlers.com/TCS-Flux-...t-p-17912.html

http://www.tcscrawlers.com/images/P/PA120052.jpg

http://www.tcscrawlers.com/images/D/PA120039.jpg

That and some on road treads, lowered suspension, and you would be in business!

lincpimp 02.04.2011 12:05 PM

Sorry dude, but the wimpy savage parts would not hold up to the 2028 motor...

Plus i want to go actual 5th scale, I have not done a 5th conversion yet.

bigsteel 02.04.2011 12:35 PM

Get one of the MCD rallys, good solid cars that can run onroad and some mild off road.--Josh

TexasSP 02.04.2011 04:17 PM

Never had a savage so don't know about the parts. Maybe you could upgrade it with your box of lady parts?

I forgot about those MCD rally's, that would be a cool conversion for sure.

HA, yeah lady parts can take a beating that ids for sure!!!

The mcd looks interesting, but how is parts support?

I think I need to give the large scale forum a try.

bigsteel 02.04.2011 05:36 PM

MCD's have pretty good part support, as they are a big competitor to FG in the touring and MT department. And quality is very high also, and if I'm not mistaken MCD makes some pretty decent 7075 hopups too.--Josh

There are a few places online to get parts for MCD vehicles, largescalerc.com being one of them. Might want to search around to see what parts most places stock and for what Versions, as they're up to #4 now. MCD gets my vote if you don't mind spending some dough.

More places sell FG parts though, and they make a pretty sweet touring car, but its only 2wd. But they are cheaper than MCD, more common used, and you could always add cable or hydro brakes to the front and rear.

The Redcat Dunerunner is styled like a baja but is 4wd and pretty damn heavy. The Rampage TT is the buggy version of the Rampage monster truck. The TT is a bit lighter and uses the same parts as the MT so parts are more availible. Its also the basis for their 4wd touring car, arms, shocks, towers etc are different. I'd love to pick up one of those, but it has been discontinued. I've been eyeing the XB series from Redcat, very tempting.

On the page below you can find some pictures (from toyfair) of new prototype e-MCD. I love MCD because they are made in my homeland:)

MCD Rally does look awesome! Looks like the FG Formula 1 has some competition for top spot on my favorite 1/5 list. I guess now I have a favorite 2WD and 4WD. For whatever reason I just really like the 1/5 on-road cars.

The only thing that surprised me was looking at pics and seeing Phillip's head hardware on the Rally. If I am going to drop $1000+ on a 1/5 vehicle I expect them to spring for hex.

bigsteel 02.05.2011 02:06 PM

The integy cable brakes on the 5b's are actually pretty good! As long as you get the V3's as the earlier ones totally sucked.--Josh

_paralyzed_ 02.05.2011 06:52 PM

yeah, but.... hydraulic brakes would be soooo cool.

It's too bad the front wheels don't have enough traction to lock the front tires and do a brake stand. That would be cool.

nice find bondo. That's a 44mm motor stock so the 2028 should fit.

it's always about girth with you:na:

I've ben wanting one of these for months, Looks like I gotta wait

Yeah but your one with stretch marks around the mouth ? :surprised:

_paralyzed_ 02.05.2011 10:18 PM

fyi: 2028 is 57mm diameter 6.5mm extra per side. I think with a larger pinion it would fit.

I almost wish I hadn't started my e5b build now. I've already got more than $800 into it, and I'm waiting for Mike to get the xl's!!!

B-Money 02.05.2011 11:37 PM

i know this will be very expensive but from what i've heard hurrax is very good.

have you seen their toxyc 4wd buggy. Here is a link about it. I'm not sure if you can get them in the US but i'm sure you could.

on second look the diameter of the 2028 would probably fit but the length never would.

A leopard 5692 would probably fit.

There's no way the stock brushless setup will hold up.

They are about $2k for a roller. :gasp:

C-5Quad 02.06.2011 03:58 PM

That is a beautiful ride.....almost had to break out the lotion when I was looking at the suspension......it is truly a functional work of art. I love precision machined aluminum parts.

bigsteel 02.06.2011 04:55 PM

Hookers and rc cars share too much in common, the prettier and cleaner both are the more expensive they get,but damn is the 2k worth it in the end!
