brushless hyper 7 conversion

3 Attachment(s)
hi,
i thought i might post a build of my hyper 7 conversion. this car is second hand so i didnt have to buy the rc monster motor mount. so far i have bought
- trackstar 150amp esc
- 2.4ghz transmitter
- Turnigy MG959 Alloy Digital Metal Gear Servo
- ZIPPY Flightmax 4000mAh 3S1P 40C
- castle creations fan
- 15t pinion
- 70,000 wt oil for centre diff if needed
- 70wt for suspension
- 2000kv leopard motor
- flightmax 2x2s 4000mah 40c
- 16,17,18t pinion pack

im still waiting for the castle fan, leopard motor and 2x2s batteries and the pinion pack. i might be unlocking the centre diff and changing it with 70,000wt and maybe soldering up the esc this Saturday. first i need to cut the centre diff bolts underneath to fit a flat head screw driver becasue they are stripped as well as the ones on top of the centre diff. heres some pics
if anyone has any tips that would be great thanks
Braden

Hyper-5 02.10.2011 05:30 PM

very nice, lve converted my hyper 8 and it goes great, top speed of 99kmh

bundyracer1 02.10.2011 05:35 PM

Thanks yeah I'm hoping to get that speed on 5s-6s

reno911 02.11.2011 12:21 AM

Sweet build list. I just had my last MMM pop today and I placed an order fro the same ESC so let me know how it works.

Hyper-5 02.11.2011 12:59 AM

should go good with 5s-6s, lm just using 3s. what motor are you running and how many tunrs?

bundyracer1 02.11.2011 01:26 AM

yeah thanks im not sure what turn but its a 4pole leopard 2000kv motor
thanks Braden

reno911 02.11.2011 11:57 AM

Brushless motors don't really go by turn, something I just read in my subscription of RCDriver, those that place a turn on their motor is more of an estimated equivalent.

That is why you'll find all sorts of different KV's on 10.5 motors. Which is anywhere from 3000 to 4500 at least by what I have seen.

I believe the Duratrax Raze is very similar to the Hyper 7. So I may be asking you for some part comparisons in the future.

I look forward to more pictures.

bundyracer1 02.12.2011 05:23 AM

hey,
ive decided to throw in some 70wt oil in the rear suspension mainly becasue they need some oil i opened 1 of the back up and it was half empty so that was my main reason! oh yeah and the bladders look great no splits nothing. Hyper-5 you where saying your hyper got up to 99km/h was that on 3s? and what gears and motor are you running
thanks Braden

Hyper-5 02.12.2011 05:26 AM

ye bundyracer1 reached 99km/h on 3s, all stock gearing but just recently changed my pinion to a 14t instead of 12t, check out my video:

bundyracer1 02.12.2011 05:29 AM

wow thats fast for 3s imagine if you ran it on 5s! how fast do u reckon mine will be on 5s just take a guess lol

Hyper-5 02.12.2011 12:01 PM

ye, soz ldk man, lm gonna make my buggy faster cause atm its just not fast enough for me, lm gonna put a 2D tekin 2650kV motor

bundyracer1 02.14.2011 02:54 AM

i have a small update!
today i got my castle creation fan in the mail and hoping to get my 2x2s lipos some time this week aswell!

reno911 02.14.2011 01:31 PM

Got some more pictures?

bundyracer1 02.14.2011 04:48 PM

i can get a pic of the fan but thats all that came so it wont be much! ill put one up today some time

reno911 02.14.2011 04:56 PM

This is so similar to the Raze... Can you post a picture of the center diff mount that you replaced with the RCM mount. I would like to see if the 7 is the same as the Raze. Thanks.

Hyper-5 02.14.2011 05:15 PM

ye, reached top speed of 99km/h everything is stock, but recently changed my pinion to a 14t instead of 12t, so l could get better top end

here's a pic of the fan and the centre diff with monster motor mount. and if you see a bolt missing its because it was stripped when i bought it and i need to cut it with a dremal to fit a flathead screwdriver in it.
Braden

bundyracer1 02.14.2011 05:57 PM

hyper-5 yeah u reached 99km/h because you are using some 3550kv motor thats 1/10. and it is 1/10 because you cant get that higher kv in 1/8. also im not being mean or anything can u just start your own thread if you want to talk about your car. thanks

bundyracer1 02.15.2011 01:56 AM

well here is one pic of the motor all i can say is "wow"

reno911 02.15.2011 12:32 PM

To be honest that is a nice looking can.

Did you get a RCM battery tray. How are you going to secure the batteries?

bundyracer1 02.15.2011 05:23 PM

1 Attachment(s)
thanks,
i just have aluminium angle and two battery straps to hold it on! hang on i got a picture.

reno911 02.15.2011 05:38 PM

Cool thanks, the reason I ask is I have a complete spare Raze, or it could be a Ofna, I don't know, I got it for cheap, and I am building it up and looking for reasonable ways to get it converted. At 45 a pop for a battery tray and motor mount I am thinking I might try to make my own...

I like your idea using the angled aluminum I might have to head to the hardware store and see if I can do something similar.

bundyracer1 02.15.2011 06:00 PM

yeah ok well the rc monster motor mounts are probably the only thing you need cause motor mounts are hard to make! the battery trays are easy but the motor is the main part that needs to be meshed properly and held on strong. if i was you i would invest in a decent motor mount, but have a try at making your own first and if it doesnt work buy one.

i got the motor mounted today and put the pinion on it looks great! heres a pic

Urgeoner 02.17.2011 12:00 PM

I just bought a hyper 7 pbs used on ebay for $100 shipped! Let me know how yours performs!

bundyracer1 02.17.2011 06:00 PM

oh ok thats pretty cheap, post up some pics when you get it. thanks

reno911 02.17.2011 06:21 PM

I wonder if the PBS system will fit the Raze...

Anyways I went to the hardware store and looked at some angled pieces nothing too fancy butI may be making something similar.

What gearing are you running?

bundyracer1 02.17.2011 06:29 PM

the centre spur is 46t and im going to be using a 15t pinion

reno911 02.17.2011 07:03 PM

Right on pretty similar here 14 t for me.

With the 2200 on 4s 6000mah I get almost a whole 30 minutes of ashing, about 15-20 for racing.

bundyracer1 02.18.2011 04:46 AM

yeah im only running 4000mah so i wont get as long but i saved some money on the batteries!

bundyracer1 02.18.2011 04:47 AM

RENO911 wat are your speeds like and wat pinion and spur are you using?
Thanks Braden

reno911 02.18.2011 12:06 PM

I get around 35-40 on 4s 6000mah with the castle 22oo with 14/46

bundyracer1 02.19.2011 05:18 AM

ok got everything wired up today it looks great and the performance is outstanding! it does around 80km/h and thats only on 5s! i might try 6s when i get enough courage to do so! plus i cant use it now cause i left my charging lead at my friends house! but hes bring that to me tonight hopefully! if not in the morning. but yeah im really happy with it!

well heres some pics of the electronics setup! let me know what you think! well if i get bored with this car and when i have some money i will do a build but make it into a race buggy like have 2x2s each side of the chassis and the esc somewhere and might try and put the motor facing forwards! that might be a while though

well heres a quick drawing of wat i mean of the chassis racing design

Aussie Nerd 02.19.2011 11:12 PM

Leave it how it is, the RCM mount was made to put the motor out the side for a reason. Oh and wiring thanks to me:mdr:

Kieren

bundyracer1 02.19.2011 11:18 PM

wat lol im not changing the motor mount i was thinking of just turning the whole centre diff but i dont think it will work anyway my motors long. yeah kieren did all the wiring

Urgeoner 02.20.2011 02:06 PM

bundyracer1, ok here are pics:

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...s/4sale023.jpg
I want a motor mount soon. Also some of the plastic bits have a little play so might just replace them, or just bash until something breaks :mdr: For now just gotta clean up a little.

reno911 02.21.2011 02:40 PM

How is that servo working out?
