U.S airstrikes on libya

Anyone else here about the airstrikes on Lybian air defenses? Obama says there will be no ground troops, and that we are just going to protect civilians.
IMHO,since we took out air defences I can only assume that more airstrke's are to come by non-stealth aircraft to cover what I believe is going to be a coup in there gov't by Pro American forces.
Anyone else have any info? And any guesses on who is going to be the first to call us murderers for this?

PBO 03.19.2011 05:22 PM

US, British & French forces have all launched strikes. The UN approved of this a while ago after Gaddafi refused to back down

A picture of a Lybian plane biting the dust...

bigsteel 03.19.2011 06:13 PM

Hot damn, that's a hell of a picture! I guess it should ave been painfully obvious that libya wouldn't stand a chance against any UN aircraft,I'm glad to know atleast we didn't go in alone.

suicideneil 03.19.2011 10:51 PM

Err...

That was a plane captured by the rebels ( good guys ), being shot down by Gaddafi's forces ( anti-aircraft fire )- unrelated to UN forces actions.

bigsteel 03.19.2011 11:02 PM

I've read stuff saying it could be rebels or Libyan forces and they weren't sure,if I'm wrong, well,I fell dumb...

Obeast44 03.19.2011 11:06 PM

Isnt that plane an older Mig, I forget which number? If so that'd make it a Libyan aircraft. I dont think the French have a Jet like that. NM I misread an earlier post ROFL!

bigsteel 03.19.2011 11:16 PM

I believe it's a mig-29 fulcrum,I'm not certain though.as i love western aircraft,not eastern garbage ;D

JERRY2KONE 03.20.2011 04:37 AM

Not sure

Not really sure whats going on over there. At first it was just the French who got tired of the crap Gadafie was doing and authorization was received for strikes a few days ago to move in, but everyone was hitting on the fact that US forces had not done squat yet. So its about time we got involved and did something to help turn the tides on this idiot. How many times does someone like this have to say that he does not give a rats a$$ about the people of his so called country, before he is taken out. He already stated that he would burn the entire country to the ground before he lets anyone remove him from his post as their supreme leader. He is obviously deranged and insane with power just like Sadam Husane was. Now lets see him in front of a judge and his people just like Husane before they hang him. Then Lybia can move on with some kind of Demicratic Gov and begin to live like a free country of the people. Personally I am glad to see that all of these countries are getting tired of being shit on by their own Gov's and standing up to have them removed for a better way of life. Free world order.

wallot 03.20.2011 05:53 AM

Libya has MIG-25s only no 29s. And the "best" aircraft they have is old SU-24MK and they have only few of them that actually work.

DrKnow65 03.20.2011 11:05 AM

Sorry guys, I think we need to back up and fix things HERE first.
Let the rest of the world deal with their own problems while we deal with ours.

Our economy should be THE priority for the time being.

x2 agreed

Bondonutz 03.20.2011 02:24 PM

Gadafie is coo-coo for cocoa puffs, hopefully somewhere out there is someone looking at his crazy ass thru a 50 cal sniper scope ?

So, explain:

Afghanistan
Iraq
Vietnam
Persian Gulf
Korea
WW11
WW1

http://americanveterans.homestead.com/links.html

It's a long held tradition of American Governments to stick their nose into other countries business if it suits their own needs in the short or long term ( *cough* oil & resources *cough* ), cant turn around and say you shouldnt be interfering on this occasion. As it happens, American forces are not being deployed on the ground & are only providing air-support in Libya ( who have lots of oil )...

bigsteel 03.20.2011 03:32 PM

Please guys, don't let this thread turn into another debate on whether or not the us should or should not be somewhere. I should have re titled the thread "UN airstrikes" because this is a joint operation. These people needed protection from there own insane leader, and if we give them a chance they can hang him like saddam and have a chance at a democratic gov't.
And Neil,WW1 and 2 we were asked to help, and when we don't help we give materials AKA the lend lease program to great britian during ww2...

Not sure

I am sure that none of us really have any evidence to show that the US Gov or anyone else has a hidden agenda in this or not. There is always some political standing in these matters and I could care less about any personal gains any of them recieves from settling this awful situation in Lybia. What all of us do know is that this moron needs to be stopped. He is the self proclaimed leader of the country and he is killing the people of Lybia just to show the world how ruthless he truly is, along with being off his rocker. What he is doing is not protecting Lybia in any way. It is out right murder. He would kill every human being in his own country just to prove his point. That does not show any kind of leadership, nor does it show the mind of a genious. The guy is an arrogant, selfish, nut job plain and simple. So whether it is the Britts, the US, the French, the Germans, or whoever takes him out, who cares? Any other arguement on the matter is purely a self feeding prejudicial statement that shows your own internal hatered. If that is your aim to insult or instigate then please go do it on some hate site and not on here. No matter what your view of other country/Goverment/people might be this is not the place/forum to throw insults at one another, because your from one place and they are from another. Grow up or go get some therapy.

bigsteel 03.20.2011 05:55 PM

Very well put Jerry, and you are absolutely right. Who gives a damn who's in Libya right now,as long as Qaddafi either sees a .50 to the head or a noose.

FG101C 03.20.2011 08:46 PM

I thought per Geneva convention or something like that the .50 cal sniper rifle was not supposed to used against personel. Like that's going to stop anyone,

bigsteel 03.20.2011 10:49 PM

I Dont know how that rumor was started, but there is no caliber round that is illegal to use against human targets only certain specialty rounds (rounds that shatter) The .50 is a commonly used round where distance and or penetration is required. I should know,my dad has a Barret 99 single shot.

JERRY2KONE 03.21.2011 01:54 AM

Only changes

The only changes I have heard about was that covert assasination on the head of state, prime minister, or President was forbidden. Otherwise war is war. Why do you think Sadam Husaine was captured and turned over to the countries own people for the courts to decide his fate? The idea was that he was to be taken alive at all costs so he could stand trial by a jury of his peers. What his own contry decided to do with him had nothing to do with any of the coalition forces. So I would imagine that the same rules stand in this case, but if he were to die by the means of an air strike, then so be it. Then he would be considered as a vitim of collateral damage while attempting to take out his anti aircraft defences.

lincpimp 03.21.2011 02:19 AM

Always nice to see that the leaders of countries get special treatment. I would authorize not 1 but 10 50cal snipers to shoot the big wigs. Bring them back down to my level, scared shitless that the big dog can come by and take all my stuff and kill my family.

I do agree that America needs to take care of America and the rest of the world should promote that too, cause when we go down we will be taking alot of them with us. Name a country that does not sell alot of stuff to us. We are the consumer nation. No one likes us an yet they just keep selling us their stuff.

My favorite part is that the US was founded by a bunch of guys who wanted to keep the gov't small and out of the people's business. Well that got twisted by the socialists (people who want power and money, basically the counterpart to royals in a democracy) who have invaded the gov't and are raping the people. Soon we will be no better than England or any other socialist country. Yay, as a working white dude I get to subsidize everything. Shit, if I got to keep all the money I made me and Richard Branson would be sipping umbrella drinks on his island. Nope, some lowlife with 50 kids is too busy spending it on ground beef for their dog at wally world, cause their EBT card does not cover pet food.

I say we leave the Libyans to their own devices and if we need the oil we go over there and get it off them. Or just trade embargo them and wait till they see it our way. Cause at the end of the day there is no right or wrong way, and "might makes right" just like it has always done. We need to ditch the whale hugging, tree humping, PC crap and look out for #1 while watching out for #2. This country did not get to be a superpower by letting the weak minded and soft willed people make the decisions.

And everyone with a hybrid vehcile can suck it, google "craddle to grave" and see what you are really doing for the planet. I just love how the uninformed feel better by acting like a bunch of sheep mated to lemmings. Total ignorance, what are they teaching in schools?

And if you have not done this, find some pics of the mig 29 planes. Yes they were a bit low tech but the construction quality was incredible. Beautiful welds.

JERRY2KONE 03.21.2011 05:24 AM

Wouldn't you love it?

Wouldn't you guys just love to see this idiot on that bully beatdown program. Put him in the ring with Randy Cotoure, or maybe Rampage Jackson for five rounds and tell him that if he wins he will hold the title belt for world champion. That would be some seriously fun entertainment to watch. don't you think? TO see him get slammed like that Casey kid got to do to that little bully Bratt on Youtube. Let him throw a few punches just to let him think its no big deal, and then lower the hammer and smash the $hit out of him. Watch him beg for mercy for the first few rounds just like the people of Libya have for years, and then put him into an arm bar and break every bone in his body one after another just like he has done to the people of Libya. Then take him out back and let his people deal with him for a while. It just brings out the worst in us to know that someone like Gadofie thinks that he can treat his own people like backyard tragets and mow them down with no regard for human life. Its just sad.

Is there anyone out there who thinks this turd deserves any kind of humane treatment? Any tree huggers out there want to have him lay on their pollitically correct recycled plastic couch and ask him about his childhood? Did his father beat him as a child. Was he molested by his priest? Or maybe his older sister bullied him and sexually abused him as a child? Give him a hug and tell him that it is OK to vent his personal hostilities out on inocent lives? He has murdered hundreds and even thousands of lives during his reign. Anyone at all think that he deserves a fair trial of his peers before getting a death sentence? Come on I bet there are some soft hearted librals out there who would move to protect this a$$wipe. He sure is not hiding his feelings about his so called people and how he will kill every last one of them to show the world his power as their leader, and how in control of his country he truly is. You know there has got to be a few people out there who feel that he is being treated unfairly, and that he should have a chance to explain himself. I am sure that he has a wonderful explanation for his current and past behavior, right? Come on speak up. We know your out there somewhere.

SO who gives a rats a$$ who goes into Libya and nails him to the ground? Put your personal pollitical views on hold and stop thinking about yourself here. Think about the poor people who have died at this mans hands just for the fun of it. This has not one thing to do with you, America, Brittain, or any other countries political issues. It has to do with saving human lives by the thousands, and giving them a chance to live free and watch their children grow up and thrive in a nation where its people matter to its leadership. I hear Dr. Phil is looking for work, maybe you need to go lay on his couch and tell him about your personal problems, and stop laying them on us.

bigsteel 03.21.2011 06:31 AM

Let's just hope it doesn't come back to bite us in the ass Jerry,I hate going into politics so there only one thing I'll say, our gov't is far too big for this country and the people in it all want this kosher job For personal benefit that is either out dated, abused,or should have never been created in the first place. And it is not MY job to pay for all the trash in this country that abuse our social programs. It only takes 1 in 100 to ruin it for everyone and there are likely more than that. So I agree,we need to takecare of ourselves, but these people needed help and I can't wait to see qadaffis trial and his inevitable hanging on FOX.

JERRY2KONE 03.21.2011 09:09 AM

Government.

We have problems just like every other country in the world, but we have someting that others do not. Like the people of Libya for instance. If any of them spoke out about the Gov the way you just did they would be shot. It is called an elected Goverment put in place by the majority vote of the people. We have the right to complain and demonstrate against our own Gov but to what end. Listen I am with you on a lot of your discomfort about the Gov of the USA for the way they handles certain things, but we have a system in which every man and woman has the right to work to change it. If your not happy about something then do something about it. comprise your list of demands and or changes for the betterment of our country, and gather a few of your friends to discuss the matters which you wish to see changed. Then IF you receive their support you are on your way and either run for a position within the Gov where some good can be done to make those changes or elect one of your peers/friends to do it for your collective group. Get someone you feel you can trust in position where they can actually create change in your favor. You see the rich have already figured this out and that is why Obama is in office now. Otherwise you are spitting into the wind and it is coming right back into your face.

Talk is cheap. You have a choice. The people of Libya do not, and they are being killed by the hundreds & thousands for trying to make change in the way they live, because their Gov is totally corrupt and they do not have any choice but to follow what they are told to do, or DIE. I hear this every day and the answer is always going to be the same. Stop complaining and do something about what you do not like, or move where you think things are so much better.

The true contrymen of the USA hold their heads up high and stand tall for anyone who wants to have a life of freedom, but also expects them to earn their way in this land of equlaity. Yes our country makes mistakes just like all the rest, and yes there has been much suffering throughout the years on all sides for the freedoms you and I share today. The new helath care bill is a pure example of that fact. What a feasco that is, but Obama meant well, right? And yes there will be much more suffering in the future to defend the same and or change it in order to make it better. Is it perfect, hell no. Is there a better way to do things, maybe. If your so headstrong about your way being right or at least better, then get onboard and make the right changes. But be prepared to do battle with people (your peers) in our country who will not like your ideas, and will fight you every step of the way to stop you. That is called democracy. Majority rules every time. Majority can be looked at any way you like, but it only really matter at the polls anyway, and in the voting booths.

The will of the American people has always been that we will not give up and we will not lie down and allow anyone to tell us how to run our country. So what are you doing to change what you do not like? Complaining on an R/C site. Yea thats going to help. I may not agree with everything our Gov is doing here or in the rest of the world for that matter, but I support the freedoms which it stands for and I am out doing my part. The things that I am not happy with I can either vote against, or they are not that important for me personally to worry about. EIther way I (one American) can not change by myself. That is why we have an elected Goverment in the first place. If you are not happy with them, than rally against them and vote someone in who supports what you believe in. Otherwise your retort is nothing more than hot air. Truly I do not disagree with you. All I am saying is this is not the place to make your fight. This thread was started to discuss the air strikes on Libya. Considering that hudreds and probably thousands of people are being murdered simply because they wish to have a better life and Gadhafie does not agree. I guess this is not all that important to you, because what? Oh yea, you are mad about immigrants taking free medical care for their illnesses. The two subjects do not even belong in the same sentence. You can stand up for your rights and do something about them. So go do it in Congress. Don't be angry with me, because I am not your enemy. I did not write the constitution, but I damm well belive in it. You should to.
