Center diff in my G2R maxx

Hi guys! I have been following your forum thread`s for a while-enjoyable reading  Now I´m in the progress of removing my gearbox on the old G-Maxx and want to put in a center diff, since the gearbox isn`t holding up well against my NC1520. But could you guys plz help my out with this? I bought a CC losi conversion kit, as I couldn`t get a hold of Mike`s uni center diff/motor mount, then I bought a Losi smartdiff to drop in there-but even with the 46T spur it won`t fit inside the g2r chassis. any suggestions as to what spur/diff i could use?? don`t want to cut my G-maxx chassis.
Here are some older pictures of the car:

Welcome to rcm.

Sorry not able to check out the pics without joining that site. I am on several sites already and do not have time to join even more. If you would like some help with your project then post up some recent pics of what you are doing so we can assess the situation and give you advice.

Welcome to RCM and enjoy your time spent here. There are plenty of great people in here who have lots of knowledge and also tons of experience with your type of project. Good luck with that.

Try a 44T spur gear. Mike has/had Kyosho spurs in his shop. They fit between the x-braces of the G3, so it should fit in the G2R as well.

bruun 03.23.2011 01:50 PM

sorry about the link, as it is the danish site i normally visit, i am allways logged in-didn`t think about what it looked like for you guys. I will post some pics off my progress/ troubles soon

feistyacorn 03.23.2011 02:00 PM

I’m using Mikes center diff mount with a 46 tooth Slipperential on a G3R. There must be something different with the Losi diff. People usually don’t recommend the smartdiff for brushless, something to do with durability I think. Maybe you could try contacting him to run another batch. If enough people asked again, I bet he would do another run.

ZippyBasher 03.23.2011 04:33 PM

Losi Makes a 43t Plastic spur for the 8e. I guarantee that'll fit between the braces and on the smartdiff. The Kyosho always leaked on my 8ight diff...

Thanx Zippybasher, will try the 43t plastic. I have email`ed Mike about the cd/motor mount. will wait a while for reply. I will now try to post a few pics

Not bad

Not bad Bruun. Considering the handling it looks like you need a UE Mono-block to lengthen the chassis a little bit, and you may want to condsider installing axle adapters to widen the wheel stance just a bit as well. You just have a lot of power for such a short package. Nice looking ride though.

bruun 07.10.2011 06:15 PM

I have been looking at the UE Mono-block, but i`m actually quite happy with the truck as is. It have been geared down to run approx 55kmh. I am going to install the RC-Monster Universal Center Diff/Motor Mount, which I just received as the 1520 tends to break the input drive shaft in my G1 tranny

Overdriven 07.11.2011 06:25 PM

If you do a search here, you can find a few examples of others who have done what you are trying to do. Welcome to the forums, and definitely post about your progress.

Edit: Running a SmartDiff in the center position with brushless is generally not recommended, unless it is a race rig. SmartDiffs require regular maintenance and even more maintenance (and parts replacement) is required with a brushless setup due to the increased power over a nitro setup. So be prepared for that if your going to use the SmartDiff.

bruun 07.13.2011 03:12 PM

Thanx Overdriven, I have received the new RC-Monster uni cd/motormount, which is looking seriously beefy! and based on what You are telling me-(and the fact that the losi diff doesn`t fit) I will we looking for something else, Suggestions? the motor will be a castle 1518

suicideneil 07.13.2011 03:18 PM

Any regular 1/8 scale diff should fit fine- I'd look at the ofna and hotbodies ones, very cheap on ebay and easy enough to tune ( to reduce wheelies ).

bruun 07.13.2011 06:22 PM

thanx for a quickie

recieved the universal cd/motormount 2nd edition, and it looks beefy and well made. here is a couple of mock-up shots :surprised:

Dj_Sparky 07.22.2011 11:10 PM

Very nice. I've been considering buying a universal CD mount from Mike for my Emaxx.

And does anyone know of some good, very long wheel wideners for E-maxx that are very sturdy? I don't want to use the Integy 23mm ones.

suicideneil 07.23.2011 01:36 PM

http://www.neweramodels.com/item.cgi...=&part_id=2963

http://www.wheelextensions.com/index_files/14mm

http://www.junfac.com/shop/index.php...f071ae71433b16

You could also use these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Pro-Line-23mm-He...item2eb5ed65b0

or these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Ofna-30059-17mm-...item45fba835fc

But you'd need a sleeve over the axle to take up the slack- 6mm axle vs ~8mm inside diameter of the extension.

If you were using the teknorc knuckles with the 8mm axle option, they would be a direct fit...

http://www.teknorc.com/product_info....roducts_id=988

I suppose you could just use the optional stub-axles, but then you'd have to find some odd sized outer bearings to suit the stock knuckles.

http://www.teknorc.com/product_info....oducts_id=1083

stock is 6x12x5, you'd need 8x12x5- a quick google does turn up some results so it is a possibility...

Dj_Sparky 07.23.2011 05:44 PM

Very nice, thank you. I did not know of the wheelextenders site, but I think I actually have a pair of those and was wondering where they came from.

You truck looks amazing, The gorillamaxx trucks handle great with cd mounts. I did mine a little different i wanted the motor to sit down a little more so i mounted it more towards the front.

Where are the photos Mike? All I see are two boxes with little red "X"'s in them. Your vehicles are always a treat so I would love to see what you have to show off this time.

The project looks geat. Good work.

bruun 11.29.2011 07:21 AM

Actually I like yours positioning better, is there romm for an ESC behind the motor? or will it require the monoblock ext.?

Easily enough room for the esc, unless you had a massive long motor like a neu 1527. Compare this similar build:

https://picasaweb.google.com/1123338...RevoCenterdiff

The 1515 sized motor stops where the rear-upper chassis plate begins, so plenty of room on a maxx-based truck.

bruun 11.30.2011 03:04 AM

nice, thanx for the info, and i thought my G-Maxx build was finished.... HA!

Shoot man it never stops....ahhhh

Lookin real good though. I just ordered a 4 pt. Center Diff mount today because I wanted the adjustment option with the new version for a truck I am building. All I had were 3 pt versions.

Please update what gearing you decide on for the final so I can follow along. I have the same exact power system going in my truck.

:)

bruun 08.22.2012 02:18 PM

gonna keep the 25/43 gearing for now, changing to a CC 1520 and phaltline tires, to see if it will give a cooler setup-more torque and less tire diameter- the tires on the pictures blew at 93,4 km/h, probably because of front lift/balloning

Klausen 08.22.2012 02:47 PM

Wouldn't it help just to drive it on 3s Thomas? I guess it is plenty powerfull on 3s?

bruun 08.22.2012 03:36 PM

balance in the car mate-balance. running 2x2s. But i could try it off course.

Klausen 08.23.2012 01:06 PM

3s parallel.

gumleguf 09.05.2012 01:46 PM

It's a beauty, bruun. We have to go driving together soon. ;)

bruun 01.04.2013 08:49 AM

The truck stands finished with 45/11 tooth gearing, but running on 4s lipo with 6.3" wheels-looking awesome!

I love everything about it, except the steering. Should we not find you a UE Gen IV servo saver?
