Best ESC (Most powerfull) for 6 lipo cells
Whats the best ESC I can get for use on a speed car using 6 Lipo cells? I have looked at the following
Future XXL 40.333WK Possibly too big and heavy. Might be overkill Future Xl 32.202 Wk. Lighter than the XXL but only 260 amps. How do the Schultz controllers compare to others? Price isnt a factor Cheers |
what about a mgm esc http://mgm-compro.com/index.php?cat=...llers-x-series
|
Yes MGM will be your best bet, and they are doing Combo deals on ESC/Motors aswell, The Xseries ESC
|
Lots to choose from. What one is best?
Cheers |

http://mgm-compro.com/index.php?tid=...-32-bit-system http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...15S_OPTO_.html etc etc you have many options ............ ¿wich motor will use with this beast? if you will use a "medium" motor of 600-900gr you only need a leopard/xerun/ezrun 150a ....... and only cost 1/5€ |
I was looking at the Neu 1527-1D. Its good for 4500 watts so 22 volts at 200n amps will be OK. I need to be carefull of the ripple current though
Cheers |
MGM are great (i have 2), But why not a castle mamba monster? Its a great 6s esc
|
That 1527 1D will not work with the MMM as it is a beast. I use to own these and it will smoke the Hydra 240. This is just a hard motor for esc and batteries in my opinion. The boat guys love that combo as they run parrallel batteries to keep the esc happy.

Transtalon
What do you mean? |
The 1527 1D motor is an amp hog. I don't think the MMM will be able to handle the amount of power (amp) that this motor needs. The only way I ran this motor was with the Hydra240 with a fully functioning watercooling on my 1/5 scale LSt2 conversion and also using a mechanical braking system to stop the car. I was burning my Hydra240 when I selected with brakes as back then I didn't know that the surge from braking causes a spike that makes the ESC burst into flames. My conversion was so uncontrollable even with the POS Maxamp that I used to have. 6S 8000 MAH. Goodluck on that beast. I believe this motor will pull 200 amp continous or in a burst and not a lot of ESC will be happy with that kind of load and make sure you pick a high C rating battery as this was probably causing my ESC to light up also. But that was years ago now lipo technology has change.

A speed run car isn't nearly as heavy as a 1/5 scale concersion LST2, Unless you had it geared for 200MPH I doubt the motor would ever see 200 amps and if it did it would only be as a burst. What kind of speeds are you trying to achieve and with what vehicle? I think the MMM would most likely be able to handle it and if not the MMXL should and you could run 8s with the XL
|
I lost interest with that motor as I was having about a couple of good runs and then the ESC burst into flames. It could be the battery Maxamps that I used to run (first battery) POS. But i believe I was running it with the 59 spur and 34 tooth pinion with the flipped gear on the FOC. So yeah I was trying to go fast with the wrong truck or setup. That was on my rookie days, now I liked how the buggy rides and handles the speed run with no drama or running on to put out the fire before it burns the whole truck.

I will be looking at 130mph for this car on 6S. We have lots of experiance getting cars up to this speed at the UK RC Speed Champs and you need to feed in the power slowly so as not to blow the ESC.
Do you still have the motor? I would like to buy it if you have. I have a water cooling system I can fit in the car. I might look at the HV-240 Hydra Cheers |
No I sold it offshore forum for 240 shipped with the watercooling jacket. Never heard back from him after that. I guess the motor worked out for his application. But this motor should be a beast on 6S in combinationof a lighter car with a lot of gearing. The Hydra 240 seem to work out with it till I change the option in the Castle link With Brakes then my problem began.

OK thanks. Where can I get a new one?
I think I'll go for the MGM controller. It looks like it has the guts to handle the motor Cheers |
Tony, try OffShore Electrics
http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...u-1527&cat=117 They're showing 2 in stock |
for a 1527 I think you only need a 150a ........ I used many times my 1717 with crazy gearings + xerun150a and worked perfect ..... of couse if you buy a bigger esc will be more cold, but I think is unnecessary ..... is your decission ;)
mmm+6s+1527 = smoke esc...............I broken 2 using 6s and ubec :( |
Yeah I know the MMM cant handle 6S with a decent motor. The xerun looks good but max 6s.
Cheers |
I have used a mmm on 6s no external bec, with a 1515 1.5d all day long with no problems except for shattered diffs. I believe it would work. i just would not thrash it. But your best option would be a big mgm
|
I went for the following
MGM X Series 25063 at 360 amps Lehner 3040/6 6000 watts KOKAM 4100 65c 2 x 3S Cells That should work! |
MGM... get's my vote..
|
Ok I'll swap this thread over to the car build now. Thanks for the help
