UE Ultralights

I am using UE Ultralights diff cases.

So I found out the hard way that not all 1/8 diffs that the same tooth count doesnt always= dame diffs...:rules:

I had good luck fitting Ofna Hyper internals

But bad luck fitting Losi Raminator 1/8 diff internals :diablo:

Just my $0.02,

Going Back to the Ofna Hyper 7's

Also I already have 1 cup for the Spider 8.
Are there any viable substitutes for the Spider 8, or do I have to hunt down a set??

suicideneil 10.08.2011 11:21 AM

Ofna be the only peeps who make an 8 spider diff so far as I know. They are also sold by UE directly on their website, though just getting the cup and end cap is kinda tricky, but they do have a complete 8 spider diff kit for $99 ( ouch ), plus kits for the spyder gears themselves.
All said and done, I don't really see much value in spending that much money just to have 8 spider diffs, the 6 spider version with correct shimming will be bullet proof and near impossible to destroy.

I'm not sure about the Raminator diffs specifically, but my spies tell me the LST/ LST2 diff internals should be a direct fit for the FLM hybrids so I'd assume (*dun dun dun* ) they fit fine in the Ultralites too. Trouble with Losi diffs being there are small differences between seemingly identical diffs from different models, makes life a pain..

You sure about that?

Mine were shimmed as smooth as could be and a Big Block OS seemed to knock these out pretty good. Granted my son really likes to catch major air time but he still knows how to drive well and these just do not hold up to major power. 8 spyder gears I think a better option if you are spending the coin already and putting some serious power behind it. Small Block motors should be fine with a 6 spyder. I don't believe any other diffs fit into the Ultralight cases as these were made specifically for the Ofna diffs.

^^^^^ThATS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME^^^^^^^ maybe not that bad NICE JOB!!!:whip:

Not really that big of a problem with the Raminator internals. Just a little extra grinding of the stubaxles tuned outdrives... I'll let you guys know how that goes:whistle:
Seems to work

And as far as the 1/8 internals that are proven to fit the Ultralights, which are the hardest??

And are the Spider 8 noticeably stronger???

George16 10.08.2011 05:23 PM

The spider 8 are stronger than the 6. I have both of them and have destroyed a set of 6 spider diffs but not an 8 spider diff. The hardest 6 spider diff internals you can use is HB hardened diffs. The other option with be to use Ofna violators steel diffs.

I have used all of those diffs I mentioned above.

USARUSH 10.08.2011 05:57 PM

Well I'll tell you guys the Losi Raminator internals are a bad fit the need to be ridiculously shimmed like 4on each output and still play...= not good

Im gonna try these
:

Hot Bodies
Lightning Series
Steel Differential Gears
HBSC81011

I'm hoping these will be a better fit

You might want to check the size of the hyper 9 diffs. IIRC, the size of the diff is smaller than the most 1/8th diff. Might not fit in your ultralight.

suicideneil 10.25.2011 12:08 PM

There seem to be 2 versions of the hyper 9 diffs- one with 6 spiders ( like all the other hyper diffs ) and one with 8 spiders; I was under the impression the LX-1 diffs ( which have the pinion shaft machined down to 5-6mm where the drive cup attaches ) were smaller & all te Hyper diffs were the same larger size?...

brijar 11.14.2011 12:04 AM

Several parts were listed earlier on eBay and I was wondering if those are all I need to fill the ultralite cases? Don't I need drive cups from somewhere? And UE's ultralite page doesn't say if the $70 is for one case or two. I think it's for one, but just making sure.

George16 11.14.2011 08:26 AM

The $70 is just for one case .

suicideneil 11.14.2011 04:20 PM

I did up a guide for building UE Ultralite diffs, with a list of every part you need / options for parts depending on the exact route you take:

brijar 11.14.2011 10:59 PM

Thanks a lot! That is a very helpful guide. Do you know for sure if the Hyper 9 spider 8 diff will fit in the ultralite case? Or would it be better to not risk it and just go for the 6 spider?

suicideneil 11.15.2011 08:32 AM

The UE ultralites are sold as kits with the 8 spider diffs after all, along with the 6 spider version- I imagine they will fit just fine..

emaxxthemonster 12.08.2011 08:48 PM

Do the hyper 9 fit the ultralights, vbs and will the ue drive cups works for them.

suicideneil 12.09.2011 11:36 AM

Based on my latest findings & discussions, it seems like the Hyper 9 diffs are slightly different to all the others ( 6/7/8 etc ), or atleast they have different part numbers for the ring & pinion gears; you are better off staying with the earlier models or Hotbodies lightning buggy diffs, to be 100% certain they will fit the UE diffs and VBS bulks. UE drive cups should work, given that their diffs are actually just Ofna Spider diffs regardless.

Ok thats for the reply
