Traxxas XO1

What does everyone think about the Traxxas RC car? http://traxxas.com/products/models/electric/6407xo1

Too slow: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...477#post414477

cmac 11.30.2011 10:09 PM

100 mph too slow???? If it really goes that fast. What would you consider "FAST"??????

cameron 11.30.2011 10:16 PM

im pretty sure he means there's a thread already.

I like it but its just too impractical on the first look. Need to know how it drives as a touring car. The likely hood of me trying to drive this @ 100mph is non existant.

suicideneil 12.01.2011 11:04 AM

Yeah, I meant there is a thread already ( hence why I included a link to it )

The car is a great piece of design & engineering, and uses about ~90% new components, but it is the wrong vehicle at the wrong time- all the other companies are releasing 1/5 scale MTs & SCTs which are very popular right now, so traxxas goes and releases a 1/7 touring car & calls it 'expert only' =

cmac 12.01.2011 01:05 PM

Sorry I missed that :)

i agree they need to release a 200mph car for beginners with maxamps water cooled lipos and a new brushless system by fine designs that only uses 2 wires

Pfffft. This is Rc-Monster, not some pussy r/c forum. Heck, I have pinion gears that will go 150mph instantaneously. Batteries that break 200mph without a connecter and motor mounts that go Mach1.

If your maxx isn't hitting triple digits you aren't r/c-ing right:lol:

It's not the car that's going to make it popular rather the technology gimick. It might be a bold move by trx but I think it will pay off. Also with the 1/5 there are so many chinese knock-offs it must be hard to compete.

PBO 12.02.2011 04:16 PM

I think it taps directly into the go-fast interest of Traxxas buyers. I think it will sell well initially & continue selling providing there aren't too many emergent issues & average TRX people can clip the 100mph ticket

If the 120mph+ threshold is broken, then it will become a classic like the VXL rustler

How's that for a bold prediction!!

BrianG 12.02.2011 04:36 PM

I can see a lot of rollers being sold on eBay to those with their own systems and don't need the iPoo (got that from SN) gimmick. Then, I can see a lot of Trx ERBE owners picking up the radio/ESC combo to put in their trucks.

If/when the idea of using a phone with the radio takes off, I can then see a lot of other manufacturers doing something similar. It does make sense in a way; why bother to integrate color touchscreen, interface, memory, etc into the radio when most people already carry a device which has all those things, and more? I just hope no one else purposely cripples their systems if their preferred device isn't used.

I get the free phone that comes with the contract, and have no use for an iPoo. I get what you're saying and agree, but couldn't traxxas consider me when developing this car? Harold compliance would be a helluva selling point.

josh9mille 12.02.2011 05:52 PM

I think they will come out with a Android app as well. Now that the Android phones are out-selling the iphone it only makes sense. Also I wonder how many kids are going to hurt themselves or others with thing? Could you immagine getting hit by a 10 pound object thats going 100mph?

lincpimp 12.03.2011 12:27 AM

A used iphone-itouch goes for about 100 bucks if you check local forums, etc.

We spend more than that on batteries for most of what we run...

Anyways, I would like to see a radio with a form like the old M11 that has a docking cradle where the screen would be. Have a different cradle for each phone type, to cover apple vs droid.

I would hope people are smarter than to stand in front of a car doing a speed run. I see people saying this all the time. just my thoughts.

FG101C 12.03.2011 09:41 AM

Can you imagine how fast this car would go if you used the flame batteries. It would probably set a new land speed record,

bruce750i 12.03.2011 12:45 PM

A radio with a phone mounted on top would be really top heavy. You would have to use Nimh's to balance the thing out. Omg!

E-Revonut 12.03.2011 11:04 PM

the problem making a android docking radio is that there are so many different droid phones and their ports aren't all in the same place.

Plus....droids are slow

just alittle fun math for you a 10lb object traveling at 100mph has 4532.4 Joules of Kinetic Energy

How much energy does a 35 pound HPI Baja 5b going 45 MPH have? I've hit myself on accident with my Baja, not nearly that fast, but it hurts bad enough to make you not want to do it again :whip:

cmac 12.06.2011 12:42 PM

I wonder if the unlock feature is in the ESC itself? I would think that if you replaced the ESC and reciever that you would be able to bypass the Ipod unlock feature. The question is what ESC would be a good replacement?

From what I've heard the speed sensor that sends speed telemetry to the radio is what the the ESC uses to engage the limiter. Replace the ESC alone and you have a fully functional RC. I'd put in either a regular MMM or an RX8 if they make it too tough to bypass the limiter.

Dunno, my brushless carbon fiber baja only weighs 26 pounds RTR and hits 54mph:na:

jpoprock 12.06.2011 07:46 PM

Yeah, i agree...why this vehicle NOW? Plus half of the US market is going into winter! Silly timing. I thought for sure that Traxxas was working on a 1/5 scale Gasser or E-Beast? That's what everyone wants these days anyway. IMO

J

cameron 12.06.2011 09:59 PM

I agree. Right car, totally wrong time. I love the car. But holy wrong season to release this. i would have died to see a 1/5 based on the Revo. Gasser or Electric.

I think they should've released it in time for the holidays, myself. Plenty of people would love to see this under their tree (myself included, as much as I hate the limiter). Releasing it this time of year means that by the time the other half of us can actually use one they should be easier to get and more parts (replacement and upgrades) will be available. When they released the Spartan, that was bad timing.

And for the Baja, maybe it's closer to 30 pounds? I don't remember how much but mine has 0 weight reduction and weighs a ton, I imagine it's pretty dangerous at ~40 MPH but I must've forgotten to check if it was Skill Level 10

My all aluminum gasser with twin pipes weighs 36 pounds. Either way it can snap an ankle like a twig:yes:

So mine's probably 28-30 pounds. I slid it sideways into my ankle once (not very quickly) and it took all 6'3" ~200 pounds of me to the ground. :whip:

KaztheMinotaur 12.07.2011 04:09 PM

Does anyone know how tall the tires are or what the diff ratio is? The parts list doesn't say.

It does list 46, 50, and 54T spurs and 14, 29, and 34T pinions.

Diffs are the erevo ones ( 2.85:1 ), not sure on tire size but it should be listed somewhere in the details or features page ( should being the magic word )..

They should be buggy size. That would be dumb of traxxas to introduce a new size to the market.

i thought the did along time ago

suicideneil 12.09.2011 11:38 AM

The front and rear wheels & tires on the XO-1 are different widths, but probably the same diameter- looks like traxxas has forced people into buying their bespoke tires for the time being, until after-market options appear...

snellemin 12.09.2011 11:57 AM

Ipanema offered the different widths first.
