The rig....Losi XXL roller in excellent condition.
The vision....Huge truck moving ridiculously fast on grass The plan....Break down, clean up and shoehorn a 1717 in it. Here are a few shots of the break down. |
You going the easy way (with a trans) or the hard way with a center diff? If the motor sitting there is any indication, its the hard way. Its actually not that hard, especially if you have the motor over the spur gear instead of next to it like a typical 1/8 buggy layout. Things get cramped quick with the motor next to the spur gear, especially with a big 1717 in there. Just curous, but is that the XXL chassis or have you not installed it yet? Asking becasue I notice 4 screws from chassis to side rails (LST, LST2, aftershock length) and the XXL has 6

The hard way...
I am definitely going the hard way with the motor mounted on top. And from what I have seen it is the XXL. I removed the transmission motor and servos before taking this picture so I might have removed something I should not have. I plan on using the center spool unit like the one in my converted GTP2. The electric version came out after I finished my build. It is tried and true and should make things a little easier for me. The hard part will be the motor mount, still drawing that one up.

I've heard the Ofna LX series (GTP included) CD and spools fit with the stock center shafts, making things easier. Mounting the motor above the CD makes it easier as well. I have a RC-M Losi mount and CD that I'm stubbornly trying to stuff into mine as I want the motor low. Can't wait to see more, love the LST stuff.
Not trying to be one of those internet know it alls or a buzz kill, but I double checked the chassis situation. The pic below is a XXL, and the red arrows point to the screws I mentioned. XXL has 6, LST/aftershock have 4. Its really hard to tell where they stretched the chassis on these except for those screws. Second that. Also the LST2 came stock with the anodized, threaded shocks like that. The XXL has an all plastic threaded shock.

Sadly I found them weak - I kept snapping the shaft at the rod end.

I appreciate the info. Upon further investigation and using your pics, it is an LSTII. I guess I can refine the parts search. The only thing with the center spool out of the GTP, the cups are a bit short so I will need a longer rear CVD. I have a Mayhem ST with a beefy rear center shaft. If can find that I will be golden. |

What motor are you using to push your truck? The amount of metal on this thing really concerns me. It is going to be well powered but the lighter the better. |
This job just got bigger.....
But will be even more rewarding...I cannot find the Carbon parts I want so they will have to be hand cut. the flat pieces. The front plate will be replaced. I love these type of builds. Firsts new parts should arrive tomorrow. I will mock up the center diff assembly and motor mount. It will be a carbon fiber aluminum angle two piece.

That is the idea. I am going for the extra wide wheels so thew extra motor will definitively help there. I hope the CF diet will get it down to 10 lbs with the motor and lipos.

Center diff is in...

The Ofna parts worked without a hitch. The diff is mocked up and if fully functional with the existing aluminum pieces. Once the CF plate comes in, It will be cut to match. Here are a few pics of the center diff in place.

Is all I can say at the sheer size of the CC1717. I cannot wait to fab up the motor mount and get this beast of a motor installed. Thanks Nitro for providing me with such a monster of a motor.

The first fabs of the motor mount and center plate are complete. The ones here are the templates of the parts in the works. Once I get the spur gear, I can refine the fit. The 1717 almost looks out of place in this thing. It is just plain freaking huge. The last pic is a standard 540 size 7700. Oh I cant wait to run this beast.

anything further on this? I just picked up a XXL with The Dude E conversion motor mount and single gear hub.. Debating to flip it or try it. Selling the ERB either way LOL

I am in the process of building the "Housewitzser" THe LST2 is getting a carbon fiber make over in addition to the 1717. |

Dayum!!! that is a nice collection of plates. I am a fool for carbon fiber though. The plate I picked up and currently cutting and shaping is 3.5mm thick. That is twice as thick as the original and incredibly stiff.
